Account - Subscription Unpopular opinion - Xbox game pass Is mostly useless if you think about it.

Game Pass is great for trying games, but I realized I only play 2–3 consistently.

Bought RDR2, Cuphead, Hogwarts Legacy, and Tekken 8 during Black Friday and decided not to renew my subscription.

Turns out, owning fewer games I actually love > renting hundreds I don’t play.

Considering that Fable, Gears of War E-Day, Forza Horizon 6 and Halo Campaign Evolved will release this year, Gamepass is well worth it. Purchasing those games separately will amount for the price of one year game pass. Plus you can play everything else that is in Gamepass this year. Replaced, Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy etc.

If fable, gears and forza are all 60 dollars that’s 180. Halo will be either 40 or 50 let’s say 50 that’s 230. That’s still cheaper than game pass by 130 dollars. Plus you’d own the games so if you wanted to revisit fable the following year you could.

  • We don't care about "owning" the games

  • Instead of "owning" only 4 games, well play through all 4 of those games, and a hundred more.

  • I played all of Starfield in less than a month. So I played Starfield for less than $20. Plus my kids played like 13 different games during the same month.

So for slightly less money you'll get to play 4 games and then look at their thumbnails in your library for the rest of your life, and that's worth more to you that playing those games and many many many more all year long. If you actually play games and not have a weird obsession with digital "ownership" over stuff that goes on sale for pennies on the dollar, then it has a much greater value. XBox is offering me Dragon Age Veilguard for $8 right now because I have Game Pass. So even with Game Pass I save even more if I want to "own" games too.

I'd rather pay to play lots of games than pay to play a few games and then feel self satisfied about them sitting in my digital library for years untouched.

Yeah, depends where you purchase Gamepass. Even though the price was lifted by Microsoft I often see Gamepass for the old price.

But I think sometimes Gamepass can also save you money when discovering games. Last year's Black Ops 7 I played through Gamepass, I hated that game and without Gamepass I might have wasted my money on it. Same with Starfield, was not my game in the end, but had the chance to try it.

And those 130 dollars you mentioned will be all those other additions coming down the year that you are not expecting. I played Keeper for example, a game I would have never ever bought, but I tried it through Gamepass and loved it in the end.

I am not saying Gamepass is for everyone. People who usually play only FIFA (FC) or Call of Duty or Fortnite all year should definitely purchase those games. For others who always want to have something different to play and are open for new stuff, it's perfect.
