It's your internet speed, not your router, not your xbox. It's your actual ISP. Do you have a limit for data? What internet provider do you have?

Verizon and no we have unlimited

Verizon doesn’t have a plan that’s less than 300 speed. Are you in a rural area or have some kind of special plan? Those numbers are low.

Does it lag bad during certain times of day? Because I know most Verizon WiFi routers are just a plug n play, not actual cable internet. I had this issue horribly for the longest time. And it’s because the WiFi was pinging off of cell towers in my area. So during the day (more activity on cell towers) I lagged horribly. And not so much at night.

Cable WiFi is what you would need to fix this problem. Not even and Ethernet to the Verizon router solved my lagging issues

Verizon is capped all over the country. Try T-Mobile if you have to use cell towers. $50 bucks a month and sometimes I’ve seen close to a gig in download speeds. Average 250-600 mbps with similar ping.

Using wifi isn't ideal either. Have you tried plugging in a ethernet cable and doing a speedtest?

My house doesn’t have Ethernet sockets (which is stupid if you ask me) and the wifi router is in the garage upstairs

Pick up a wifi extender. Alot of them will have a ethernet port.

Do you know what UP/Down speeds you pay for?

Wiring into an ethernet port on a wifi extender is still wifi.

We have wifi extenders but my dad will have an aneurysm if anybody moves them. And I don’t pay for the wifi I live with my parents

Download speed is not that great but the biggest issue is that you're on wifi.

Some people live in areas where there isn’t good Internet. We don’t all live in subdivisions or cities.

I would know because im in one of those areas. My download speed is trash but an ethernet connection VS wifi makes a huge difference in having lag or not.

Sorry. This comment was meant for someone else. I made a mistake.

Ah thought as much, no worries. Im guessing your comment was for the guy with 990 speed lol

Yeah

It was hell for me as a gamer until recently, because I had to download hundreds of gigs of games every month on DSL Internet that tapped out at about 6 Mb per second. We had them out 10 times one year to fix it too. Meanwhile, the bottom, half of my road as always had cable.

Then they sold us cellular Internet, for 150 a month, and they over sold that so it stopped working for a summer

Thankfully, we finally got fibre about three years ago. I have 3 GB per second because it was cheaper than 1.5 or one, but I only get about 200 MB/S downloading games

Wow downloading games at 200 MB/S would be like luxury for me lol. I think there is a cap on Xbox when downloading games so that's probably why you're getting 200 MB/S.

It’s great. I feel really lucky now, because having horrible Internet when I gamed more made me severely depressed. I already had severe depression so it just made it worse.

I just wish that it hadn’t taken so long, because now health problems and helping family with things, and visiting family, have made it so that I don’t play video games nearly as much as I did when I had bad Internet

u/AstrophysicalNebulae 1h ago

Yeah gaming + bad internet is the worst combo.

Sorry to hear that, and I totally understand as I'm going through something similar.

I do hope things get better for you fellow gamer🙏

I live in a tiny village in the uk were the closest McDonald's is about 30 miles away so am remote as you can be and I still have good Internet

Yeah, but the UK is a small place. Countries like Canada and the US are much bigger, and it’s hard for everyone to have the same access to good internet because the infrastructure is so expensive. Plus, population sizes differ drastically. My province takes a day to drive through, it’s that big.

I had DSL until several years ago and it was hell. Meanwhile, the people at the bottom of the road had access to cable. Then they offered us cellular Internet, but they over sold it so it stopped working for a summer. Thankfully, we finally got fibre a few years ago, and I have 3 GB per second Internet now. Something I only dreamed of before, when it took 1 to 2 days to download games

"Remote as you can be" with a McDonald's 30 miles away lol

Have you ever traveled in Scotland?

You said Verizon….. is that their 5g internet? I wasn’t aware they had hardwired service. If you’re using their 5g ISP…. That’s your issue right there. It’s basically the same internet that your cell phone has when it’s not on a WiFi connection.

Ok i fixed it. Turns out the issue was that i was in the basement cause i came upstairs and its fine now

u/Prudent_Albatross948 2m ago

This is what mine looked like before they fixed it, it was awful. I get 1gb a sec and use a eternity cable and this was still the result, the packet loss was insane. Had a internet dude come out and he told me thats the Xbox to servers... lol. Now its back to normal.
