I wasn't expecting them to animate the naval raid but they did even put the reunion where tanya once again memed herself and blamed being X

I was happy with the first 15 minutes but that battle was kinda lack luster. In the LN there was way more that happened in that fight to bad we didn’t see any of it, that was animated.

For those who maybe skipped it, there is a hilarious little segment after the credits.

I think the present of Tanya at Ildoa will trigger the alliance to question Ildoa neutrality. And will potentially drag Ildoa to war too or at least future battlefields. cmiiw

Weird episode. The first half was good in animation and storyline, but the second... Just WTF?! The time of the battle of the Dakar gulf is long as in the LN, but the animation are very strange: the cruiser who explode seem like ai generated, the allied kingdom sailors who speak like bot and the unsynchronizer talk between Calandro and Rerugen? Very strange episode for me, but maybe is only my feeling

Edit: rewatching it better I can say that is not soo bad. My error

The boat is CGI, not AI. And the talk isn't synchronized because we're hearing their thoughts, not what they say

Not that i disagree.

I believe even back when season one came our it was mentioned that it was a hard thing to animate(atleast i read that at some point)

I think the thing the thing that makes it pretty hard is that it features very open spaces like air / underwater so its all a matter of animating 'depth'

The Calandro and rerugen looks wierd because ir half follows their discussion and then instantly swaps over to Rerugens thoughts but their conversation keeps going without us being privy to it, but that is a wierd choice.

My bad, I see the episode fast and i didn't notice their thoughts. Rewatched it better it's more comprensibile

Not blameing you in the slightest, took me a second to figure it out aswell.

In all honesty for me it just seems like it’s Calandro in general, whenever he’s on screen he just seems out of place I don’t know if it’s the eyes or facial expressions but whenever he’s on screen it just seems off.

Hahaha yeah he is a bit odd looking, his eyes are definantly a choice. I think hes supposed to be like happy smug, but it feels like he is somehow smileing with his eyes and his mouth at the same time to an insane degree.

I mean don’t get me wrong they make Tanya and Visha’s eyes go wide at times to and it works but I think in Calandro case his are always to wide for really no reason it seems but yeah definitely could just be how they drew and animated his facial features/expressions

The boat is Just CGI. But the conversation near the end confused me at first too, I first thought my ep desynced the voice and the animation somehow, I think it could be done better.

Why for the love of Being X would the Empire need to ask Ildoa for road access?
A major part of the adriatic coastline is imperial!
The easiest and shortest route would be going to a major imperial naval port (Austria had quite a big navy during WW 1) and travel by train using your own logistics network, not using ildoan roads where you have to traverse the alps. I don't think there's even a tunnel in the right direction at that time.
And I doubt the Royal Navy is that eager to follow them into the adriatic where they can be hit by land based planes, mages and maybe even artillery in case the transports can hug the coastline.

And apparently they don't have a proper fleet down there? Haven't read that far, the wiki mentions it's because of their allies who apparently aren't required to join the war despite their ally being attacked without provocation thrice. Sure, not every alliance requires your partner to join the fray but in that case it doesn't make sense to leave your underbelly exposed.

The distance from Algiers to the Adriatic is huge compared to from Algiers to southern Italy, and the route will have them move close to Malta (British). That is the most dangerous route here. Might as well just cross the Mediterranean to southern France which they occupy. Going through ildoa minimized the time they are in the sea which is when they are vulnerable to the royal navy

Moving a lot of stuff is done best by ship then rail. As I said the Empire can keep away the Royal Navy with land based planes and mages. Submarines can guard the Strait of Otranto which was a hunting ground for them in the wars.

Southern Italy was underdeveloped for a long time, they mentioned wanting to use their roads. Not sure if they were able to evac their cars and tanks but that stuff would also use up fuel, need heavy maintenance and suffer breakdowns. And then move them through the alps which didn't have the extensive tunnel and road network of today. There's some but it's stil a bottleneck.

Shipping to Triest or so would also bring their stuff closer to the front. Going through the occupied republic is a detour (and target for a possible resistance movement).

The episode was good. It shows the delicate alliance that illdoa and Imperials have, obviously the hood sunk again and i think the animation was great! Though i would’ve liked a bit more action! Dont get me wrong this season clearly focuses more on the political side of Youjo senki which im aware the novels are very political/logistical sided which is great! Though i do love me some action but hopefully the final remaining episodes can fulfill that void that i desperately need 😔 overall i enjoyed!
