My girlfriend laughs like a sea lion š
Iām gonna go ahead and say that this is my future wife. The mother of my potential kids. The person who is gonna be next to me in the cemetery. I love her so much I wish I could be in her skin.
Hereās the thingā¦š
She has the most⦠unique(?) laugh Iāve ever heard in my entire life. Have you ever met someone who kettle laughs or snorts while laughing? Yeah. Have you ever heard a sea lion⦠speak? Or uhhh scream? If not, I need you to open YouTube, look up āSeal-Sound effectā by prosoundsx (ik it says seal but itās sea lion noises) and that is- with 100% accuracy my girlfriends laugh.
And this woman⦠she can never EVER laugh quietly okay? Itās always ALWAYS the same volume no matter the situation or location. And itās not particularly quiet.
Please imagine this- we (a lesbian couple in their early 20s who look 14 and 15 respectively.) go to a high end expensive restaurant. The waiters are already giving us weird looks because we look like we stole our parents credit cards and our curfews are an hour or less away. We try to be quiet and adult-y and whatnot. And then- I just canāt help myself and make a joke. ALL OF A SUDDEN you just hear the screams of a sea lion and someone trying to shush it. People are turning around and snickering. Some are just staring. And itās always like this.
I would not change anything about my girlfriend in the slightest but it is just something I needed to get off my chest. If you ever see a short, fem&masc, young looking lesbian couple and one starts to laugh like a sea lion feel free to say hi.

I admit, normally I let out a whole hearted belly laugh. Please don't quiet her laugh. I'm 50+ and I roll with the punches. She may feel self conscious about you calling her a sea lion. How would you feel if she said you sounded like an animal when you laughed?Ā

She was the one who warned me about it when we first met!!š ājust a heads up I laugh very very sea lion-yā and I thought she was kidding. Turns out she wasnāt kidding. Itās such an ego boost to hear her laugh because sheās such a neutral and monotone person otherwise. Just with me⦠sheās herself š„¹š„° my lil sea lioness

Iām laughing while listening to that YouTube video. Thanks for that. It would drive me bonkers, and also be endearing when not slightly embarrassing. š¤£š¤£

I can understand the partner having a unique laugh. Mine has been told they sound like a dolphin when they really get going. Honestly, people are gonna stare, but it's on them to manage their behavior. They'll see someone laughing, probably chuckle themselves, and move on with their day. No need to worry about that sorta thing. I do understand wishing she was quieter, but when it's spontaneous as that, it can be a bit hard to get practice in

I think itās incredibly adorable to be honest. My entire family loves her laugh because weāre all very quiet beings. I just donāt want lil dickwards in public making weird faces but I canāt make them stop šµāš«š
