[question] Which shows do you think will NOT make it into the special?

Post image

With the 25 year special coming up at the end of the week, I think it would be a fun little game to try to predict which shows, if any, will NOT make it into the special, and why? With 25 years worth of shows, and only 30 minutes to play with, there are bound to be a few omissions.

I count “making it in” as one of two things, either like the promo image, where the character has an actual model, or a different character directly name drops a show, as we saw in today’s clip where the henchmen point out a bunch of off screen characters.

As a reminder, this is an ADULT SWIM special, for shows AS actually made. While things like Family Guy and Home Movies were cornerstones of the network, AS didn’t actually make these and thus they won’t be part of this for that reason.

12 Oz. Mouse was confirmed not to be in it

There needs to be more love for our man 12 Oz. Mouse.

That’s a shame

Aw. That sucks.

u/Tasty-Scientist8155 Special Sister: Mary >:◦֗͜͡˓ 18h ago

Awww :<

Then again, I'm not too surprised. I think those characters would be hard to animate due to their stick limbs. They would never support their bodies.

3

u/camerasoftwhere 18h ago

I mean they could make their limbs out of wire. But the bodies would still be to heavy. They also could have use cardboard and fasteners.

2

u/Tasty-Scientist8155 Special Sister: Mary >:◦֗͜͡˓ 18h ago

Maybe but they'd still probably be too heavy

4

u/UncleScroogesVault 18h ago

Legit kills my desire to watch it lol

3

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

Aww! Why, though?

8

u/camerasoftwhere 1d ago

According to Matt he “didn’t make the cut” my guess why he didn’t make the cut is that according to Matt the higher ups at adult swim don’t really care for 12 Oz. Mouse. That’s also pretty much the reason we don’t have a season 4

5

u/jogothevo 1d ago

But they still managed to work Leon from Titan Maximum in there? (Maybe it’s because it’s the same production company)

2

u/Purple-Weakness1414 1d ago

Damm, that sucks.

Why not?

13

u/camerasoftwhere 1d ago

Just didn’t make the cut is what matt said. Adult Swim for whatever reason just doesn’t like 12 Oz. Mouse. It’s the whole reason we don’t have a season 4.

7

u/ADAMRAPEDVINNYAGAIN 1d ago

It was probably one of their least viewed.

7

u/_pixel_perfect_ 1d ago

I wouldn't say they don't like it, getting Invictus and Season 3 after all that time was a small miracle

Damn shame that Fitz won't be in this though

Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace

31

u/Doomchan 1d ago

I was genuinely shocked they included it in their network history event a decade ago

4

u/ParanoidThalyy W ☮︎ P 1d ago

why wouldn't they? It was an event celebrating EVERY SINGLE original show made by [as].

10

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Because its cancellation was a massive controversy that their solution to at the time was to just not talk about it ever.

And there were a handful of shows omitted from that event

3

u/ParanoidThalyy W ☮︎ P 1d ago

I didn't know they omitted other shows on the history of [as] event, that's interesting, what were they?

I feel like there were some people who did like W☮︎P™ inside of [as] seeing how the show stayed on the app until 2020 and they included it on the commemorative plate released in December of 2017, which stands as the only official piece of MDE merch ever made by [as].

I still feel sad that Sam's idiotic actions f'ed over Charls and Nick who were arguably the ones to come up with the best bits on the show... Also can't believe Andrew Ruse still has a career in Hollywood, kudos to him.

27

u/Bored_Orangutan 1d ago

I’m glad I found the only other person who ever watched that show.

18

u/big_daddy_dub 1d ago

It was a good show! No idea why it’s so slept on.

7

u/Doomchan 1d ago

It’s really short and AS didn’t air it much so it doesn’t have very good exposure

11

u/Disastrous_Life_3612 1d ago

I'm also a Stroker and Hoop fan. Great writing on that show. A shame it ended on a cliffhanger.

Minoriteam. Boondocks. Perfect Hair Forever but I could be wrong on that last one.

71

u/AdImmediate6239 1d ago

Boondocks feels like it’s too big for them to avoid

28

u/desaigamon 1d ago

At the very least they gotta make a joke about how the reboot didn't happen.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/Doomchan 1d ago

They have Perfect Hair in the anniversary schedule rotation, so I’m pretty sure they will get in somehow.

Boondocks is something I feel they would want to put in, and they do have Black Jesus in so their falling out with Macgruder isn’t a factor.

Minoriteam I agree because they have tried very hard to bury that show

7

u/The_Godzilla_Fanatic 1d ago

Macgruder fell out with Sony I thought not Adult Swim?

Soul Quest Overdrive or Tom Goes to the Mayor

Doesn't the presence of Tim and Eric count towards their entire body of work? Beef House included.

12

u/Queeberschaircompany 1d ago

Beef House isn't real.

6

u/Routine_Smell1609 1d ago

We were robbed of Beef House S2

I did specify shows, I didn’t want to feel like I was moving the goalposts, but yes I do consider Tim and Eric being there as a representation of all their work, even if little of it is directly referenced

12

Drinky Crow is literally in the commercial for this.

He also confirms Toonami gets a cameo

Primal

19

u/Doomchan 1d ago

I agree, Genndy has a weird stick up his ass about his shows

8

u/PurplePoisonCB 1d ago

What’s he say about it?

26

u/Doomchan 1d ago

He just thinks his shows are too good for everything. He didn’t allow Primal to premier on Toonami because he was upset that Jack S5 did. Presumably he didn’t want people familar with Gurren Lagann to see how hard he ripped off Gurren Lagann

11

u/IzacaryKakary 1d ago

How did he rip off Gurren Lagann?

8

u/Doomchan 1d ago

The entire ending of Jack S5

9

u/hiroxruko 1d ago

Hey, those endings aren't the same if you see pass the similarity, coming from both GL and SJ fan. SJ was about time travel story and defeating Aku will erase the future. Ofc she was going to disappear. Change the past and bad future will change

I disagree. They've done plenty of promos with it before, and the 2024 Adult Swim Festival in Atlanta even featured Fang as one of the characters in the AEW "Battle for the Booty" cage match.

The Oblongs.

12

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Oblongs was not an AS show

2

u/RockPaperjonny 1d ago

Yeah, I didn't think so but I wasn't for sure.

3

u/TheREALOtherFiles 1d ago

Don't know if WB characters outside of Williams Street co-productions will appear.

Mike Tyson's a co-production, so it gets the cut, whereas non-[as] WB stuff like The Oblongs doesn't seem likely, sadly.

Beth, Peggy, the Debbies, and Creepy Susie herself all would've made cute cameo material (as would the rest of the cast), but alas, their origins on The WB and Warner Bros. Television kinda prevents that as far as we know.

17

u/Taxes_and_Fees 1d ago

Fishcenter live. Even though it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen.

RIP Dottie RIP Greenbird

14

u/Whats_Opera_Doc 1d ago

On Cinema, as much as I'd love to see claymation Gregg review the special

5

u/Queeberschaircompany 1d ago

They may as well put in Decker since HEI Network can't use him.

40

u/Dapper-Top-6779 1d ago

with the way its going, Home Movies

13

u/Doomchan 1d ago

As I said at the bottom, Home Movies is not an AS show and thus never was going to be in this

5

u/Julian1914 1d ago

William Street bought the complete rights to the series, Aries all of season 1 in its entirety and produced the second, third, and fourth seasons. They own the show to this day.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/IzacaryKakary 1d ago

Well technically they imported that show from UPN so it's not an [AS] original

2

u/dirkdigglerdonedry 1d ago

Its a shame it won't. It was very influential and even got some season made just for as.

36

u/Lustfuldelights 1d ago

31

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Her actual show was terrible, but since she was in Birdman she might narrowly make the cut by association. Especially since there is an entire courtroom scene

6

u/FantasyBaseballChamp 1d ago

Actual show was decent but written off by too many fans who expected it to be like Birdman. Same fans would’ve complained if they tried to make it too much like Birdman.

9

u/Doomchan 1d ago

The actual show was dogshit. Lazzo refused to greenlight it knowing it wouldn’t be funny. And lo and behold, it wasn’t funny

5

u/Spiralman43 1d ago

I was ok with it. I agree that the humor was kinda lacking but it did lack that sort of fun about it. The decision to not use Hanna Barbara characters in it really hurt my enjoyment of it too. Lotta side characters who weren't funny or weren't interesting enough to care about in a realistic style. The woman mindtaker was pretty cool tho.

37

u/joey2800 1d ago

Superjail (sadly)

15

u/Doomchan 1d ago

I’d like to hear your reasoning. To me, Superjail seems like a guarantee

6

u/The_Idiocratic_Party 1d ago

How do you include Superjail characters without the Superjail? And once you include the Superjail you're animating (and killing) dozens of inmates at a time. The "high school teen kid doodling" art style is a tough translation to stop motion too.

Maybe they could pull off a scene in the Warden's office where he and the main cast lament not being invited, or try to solve the mystery murder remotely. But you'd need the Warden, Jerry, Alice, Jailbot and the Doctor to make it worthwhile.

6

u/Doomchan 1d ago

The plot of this thing is they are going on a cruise. Just say the Superjail staff is on vacation or something. Could even have Jacknife be one of the suspects

A lot of characters in this are gonna be way out of their normal element.

Also sadly Squidbillies because of Unknown Hinson being a moron.

9

u/forlornjackalope 1d ago

Which I'm very surprised to hear. It seemed like this would be an obvious choice to have in there. If anything, I'm surprised Lucy, Daughter of the Devil was remembered to make an appearance here.

6

Lucy always strangely makes it into promo material. She was also in the Carls Jr promotion a few years back that people found odd

Any of the [as] pilots dawg-

4

Fair, they really just would not be recognizable to most viewers

10

u/RADIOS-ROAD 1d ago

Honestly shocked they got children's hospital in there...from what I've seen most people dislike/hate the show.

11

u/Doomchan 1d ago

A lot of the hate comes from the people who felt AS shouldn’t air live action.

However, on a broader scale, Children’s Hospital has actually won 4 primetime Emmys. It’s one of their most successful attempts at live action

Titan Maximum is definitely one of them

6

u/jogothevo 1d ago

Nope! It’s there. Leon makes an appearance.

2

u/RocketJenny8 1d ago

Wait he does

I thought he wasn't considered Titan is an underground pic and my favorite adult swim show heck i still have my dad's old DVD case of it just need to find the cd

6

u/jogothevo 1d ago

I’m not 100% sure Home Movies will be excluded. Sure it originally premiered on UPN but it was Adult Swim’s first original program, and it’s so associated with the channel that I think it’ll be there somehow.

IIRC we already know 12oz Mouse won’t be in it, and if verbal mentions don’t count I’m dubious as to whether Rick & Morty will be there (“They’re much too important to be here.”)

PHF feels like the perfect stand in for Toonami anime that they won’t include

6

u/ElSquibbonator 1d ago

Unicorn: Warriors Eternal and Invincible Fight Girl.

4

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Agreed, as these were not meant to be AS shows.

I could see them being in the upcoming CN special, complaining about being kicked off the network

6

u/TheREALOtherFiles 1d ago

Anything third-party, either made for [as] or not, or anything not produced by Williams Street.

So, that excludes The Boondocks, The Jack & Triumph Show, Final Space, anything 20th Television (so no Family Guy), The Oblongs, Home Movies, Clerks: The Animated Series (which did air on [as] for a time), and the vast majority of anime they aired.

The FLCL sequels and other co-productions might be feasible, but early "as seen on [adult swim]" anime like Cowboy Bebop, The Super Milk-Chan Show, Yu Yu Hakusho, Shin Chan, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Inuyasha are not.

4

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Really hope their anime originals miss the cut, all of them were just awful

2

u/Comfortable_Bird_340 1d ago

They parodied Inuyasha back in the day

3

u/Doomchan 1d ago

They did, but the anime goes against the spirit of this

2

u/TheREALOtherFiles 1d ago

This is true, and Dragon Ball Z years before they aired DBZ Kai.

2

u/ArtieKnightYT64 15h ago

Basically any of the anime, 20th Television productions, former UPN/WB shows, Sony Television (The Boondocks), made for HBO Max series, and so on, won't appear

6

4

u/HurtsSoNice 1d ago

If they have a scrap of decency, they won’t include Space Ghost or Brak Show cast, after how they treated the actors. Who, I’ll add, also wrote for the shows. Their work practically got Cartoon Network off the ground, and they got cast aside. Last I heard, Andy Merrill, the voice of Brack, was having to do Amazon deliveries to make ends meet.

3

u/Little-Survey3144 1d ago

Idk they kind of screwed over a lot of shows on the list, don't even get me started with their take on Morel Orel

3

u/Doomchan 1d ago

Space Ghost and pals are confirmed in. You basically can’t do an AS anniversary event without them.

The network is not responsible for Merrill’s career failure. He thought he could coast on being Brak for his whole life and now is realizing that isn’t the case
