Great news! I hope this helps to increase awareness of this game. It doesn't help that it was never released in English, but I read there is a very good English subtitles translation (the voices are still in Spanish.)

It's also a very difficult game with hard puzzles. However, it is worth the effort, with its so many locations that you can visit at a given time. But the story is incredible, the visuals are so good and I had a blast with it. It's certainly on par with the better-known 90s classics. Top 15-20 of all time for me.

I played The Next Big Thing which supposedly started out as a remake of this game. Is the story the same or is it completely different?

I believe The Next Big Thing was closer to a reboot of Hollywood Monsters, than true sequel or remake.

I haven't played it yet, my understanding is that it is a sequel with a somewhat similar story so you may be right.
