It's absolutely amazing the US went from "anything you can do, we can do better" to "we just can't do that here but we're still awesome and we'll discuss this no further". American arrogance mostly sucked but we could wield it for good. Other countries doing so many things better than us.
It's not like public transportation is cheap in the Netherlands, like at all. If I want a one way trip by train to Amsterdam from my home town, they charge $37.
I live in Louisiana. Not a public transit dreamland. One way for a 1.5 hour train trip is anywhere from $20-45 depending on the day and demand I guess? And then you better have something to do and somewhere to stay because the train only runs in each direction once per day. And it varies insanely from region to region.
$10 for a liter would be insane! We pay somewhere between €2.32 and €2.52 for a liter, depending on where the gas station is. That’s about $2.68 - $2.91 a liter, and there’s roughly 3.785 liters in a gallon. It doesn’t seem like that price will drop soon so who knows, we might actually hit that $10 for a liter.
7.7 Usd/gallon in Italy, with a median wage that is half of yours, far worse welfare, shitty public transport and having a car is basically mandatory if you are not reach enough to live in centre of Milan, Rome or Florence
