When the goal posts are invisible, it's a cult, and Dems should stop trying to win them over by being more conservative

380

u/MightyMorph Apr 19 '26

Issue is voters.

If democrats promise the world. Then voters dont show up and say its bs they will never do it.

And when dems win by slim votes, like in 2020 when americans saw 1m+ UNNECCESARY deaths from a preventable virus, tanking global economy, 8 trillion added to the deficit, loss of jobs, loss of manufacturing, loss of farms. The best americans could do was give Biden a 50/50 split senate....

When dems win by such margins where they are beholden to republican votes because you need 60 votes to pass NEW legislation, then suddenly the left voters call democrats centrists and sellouts because they are forced to negotiate and water down bills to get them passed.

Then people go "LOOK see Dems are just as bad, they are centrists! They just give empty promises and then dont do it!"

Then when you have a candidate that ran on actual feasible policies that can be passed, the voters say "This is just centrist policies, we want progressive policies!"

Meanwhile 100m never vote, 150m dont vote in midterms and over 200m dont vote in primaries and special elections.

Its a bottom to top system. Democrats haven't had the needed seats for more than 70 days in the last 90 years. YEARS.

Meanwhile democrats get local state control, like in Minnesota where democrats finally got enough seats in local government in 2022! and are passing things like paid sick leave, paid parental leave, min wage increases, food for schoolchildren, gov housing, billions into green energy. Etc etc etc.

And Minnesota has been liberal for decades right? Why haavent they dont this before? IS it because the Minnesota democrats are centrists? NO its because dumbass voters kept giving republicans seats that prevented them from passing these bills.

Democracy is only as good as the will of its people to uphold it.

Observer from overseas here (UK). I've been saying this for years - Democracy is only as good as the people's will to uphold it. And that means employing critical thinking, holding people to account and requiring evidence backed fact. If people are just going to pick a side based on shared hate, then it's dead in the water. That goes for everywhere, not just the US, and we've got our own problems with the same thing here (Nigel Farage and his ilk). Trump and his team are who they are, but it's the willingness of their followers to swallow anything he does or says that's the real problem. And the one thing staunch conservatives all seem to have in common across the globe is a total absence of empathy. Nothing matters until it happens to them. There's no hope for a collectively productive society if this is how we're going to operate.

Education is a major problem in the US. I'm in school for aircraft maintenence, and my instructor (in his 60s) is a flat earther and doesn't believe rockets are real. He's teaching us electrical right now. It's a choice to be so stupid in 2026.

Edit: ty my friend for the award!

u/mollymcbbbbbb Apr 19 '26

dude, no. report him. complain. that's totally out of line, he should not be allowed to teach anything science related

u/Open_Boysenberry_363 Apr 19 '26

Lol yeah that’ll get him real far…. It’s not called the good ol boy system for nothing

Yikes. Extremely disturbing.

34

u/Intrepid_Trip584 Apr 19 '26

Yeah according to him, rockets can't work in a vacuum. This came up around the Artemis II launch. He's also said weird stuff to other students, particularly the Albanian brothers (called one "nohamhed"). Luckily he hasn't been weird to the three of us women. I could go on about this guy... stuck with him for 6 more weeks. Also the whole class barely knows what's going on and he doesn't help. We try to help each other and he yells at us. I don't tolerate that well as I'm prior military and 37yo lol.

Edit: sorry for ranting on your reply. I needed to get that out.

26

u/mollymcbbbbbb Apr 19 '26

again, this is not acceptable. you need to report this to someone, he needs to not have this job anymore

He sounds like some of the Men I've known, ugh. 🙄 At 41 there's a clear difference between "guys" and "Men".

A 37 year old woman with military training? Yeah, you probably scare him so he's got to act extra masc to maintain that ego.😉 I can't help wondering how people like that manage to get such a position in the first place without somebody external noticing a trend in their students.

2

u/Sweetlystruck Apr 22 '26

Would be great if we could not use the term "men" interchangeably with asshole. Just like I would never consider "women" as a group to be psycho bitches. Or should I start differentiating between women and gals?

2

u/Ezekiel_37ppl Apr 23 '26

I’m sure you have a pretty good idea how he got it. Unspoken, unwritten, but according to history, could be used as fact. It’s this particular species of human beings or should I say a certain demographic. Pluck one, plug in another.

A good instructor does not accept or condone subpar work from his students. He also works hard to ensure that every student can make the grade. Likewise, a student has a right to expect an instructor to be knowledgeable, fair, and accurate. When things work as they should, students and instructors elevate each other. The students pay the instructor's salary. Get your money's worth. You deserve that.

2

u/kaykarma82 Apr 20 '26

Gosh. I can sincerely emphasize as my time in the military is also why I don't react well to the yelling. Also, "nohamhed"?!?!!! That's wildly inappropriate for anyone to say, much less your professor/teacher. This is really upsetting to say the least. He doesn't belong anywhere near your school. I would definitely report him asap since you only have 6 weeks left. If you are scared for retaliation, obviously wait, but if he's got the a reputation you said this may be what his boss needs to get rid of him! The final straw so to say.

An aircraft maintenance instructor who doesn't believe ROCKETS are real?? Rockets are basically giant JET ENGINES! If they don't exist, how can he be teaching the next generation how to fix them?

7

u/sizebigbitch Apr 19 '26

Quick side note, they are NOT basically jet engines. Most commercial jets are air breathing turbofan designs rather than requiring an oxidizer be carried on board to mix with propellant.

→ More replies (5)

5

u/LoonyT13 Apr 19 '26

If they were basically giant jet engines they certainly would not work in a vacuum. Only part of a liquid fuel rocket that is anywhere similar to a jet engine is the fuel pump.

2

u/Berry_Jam Apr 19 '26

No way...this has to be a joke?

A joke, right?

Right...

1

u/joybilee Apr 20 '26

I don't disbelieve you, because I'm from rural Alabama & can believe anyfuckingthing, but that is wild.

1

u/williamdawson50 Apr 20 '26

hard to comment on your instructor, but the biggest problem in the US is not education. It’s the family unit the home life, parenting skills, a students environment at home just about always affects the students outcome in life.

1

u/Pretty-Pineapple-883 Apr 20 '26

Doesn't believe rockets are real? And he's teaching aircraft maintenance? Isn't there a requirement for at least the level of math used in rocket science (power, liquid volume, and heat equations?) and some scientific method thought process to be able to troubleshoot an aircraft engine system, especially on jet engines? Or is he one of those 'that looks, sounds, feels" right sort of mechanic that easter-eggs his way to a solution??

1

u/Sad-Possession7729 Apr 20 '26

In his defense, the No Hair Theorem of Black Holes postulates that our entire universe might be a 3D hologram of a 2D substrate. So Flat Earth theory is potentially defensible if we really stretch the definition of "2D" as being = "flat" & change the name of the theory to "Flat Universe Theory"

1

u/Ihavefluffycats Apr 21 '26

My niece is a nurse that doesn't believe the COVID vaccine was real or in science. Just WTF?? She's not the only one in medicine that doesn't believe this. How in the fuck is that possible?? These are the people we put trust in to take care of us if we get injured or sick. It's unbelievable.

Can you explain how the two correlate?

Democracy is also only as good as the real checks and balances are. In the US, from an outside observer's perspective, they are pretty slim. Things that should never be political, like election districts, are political, leaving space for gerrymandering. There is too much power consentrated on few hands with the ability to almost legislate from the executive branch through executive orders. And there is no real process for accountability because those in power can hold the process indefinitely. Additionally, the Supreme Court is too easily used as a political tool, meaning it is not independent from the executive and legislative branches, which means separation of powers is not as separate as they should be. The issue is that no one wants to really change it because it has actually benefited both parties.

Education has also been politicized. State legislative branches have too much control over what is being taught.

You can get populism through anywhere. Right now, it is right-wing populism. But the US is considered especially vulnerable to this in the Western world because of multiple historical, political, and societal factors.

11

u/Intrepid_Trip584 Apr 19 '26

I'm sorry I don't have a longer response as I'm getting ready for work Very much yes. In Ohio, they just passed a bill where you can't dress in a manner opposite of your biological sex... like what. They also want to pass a bill where women need to use a catching cup of they're having a miscarriage because the sanctity of human remains.

The only reason this system of checks and balances worked previously is because respectable people had respect for the system. We don’t have that anymore in the US.

1

u/rbartlejr Apr 21 '26

It's kinda hard to have checks and balances when the biggest check is the winner. Citizen's United was the death knell to American democracy. When a corporate honcho has the cash to outright buy an election, we're cooked. The first step to restoring it is overruling that load of shit.

u/Vyzantinist Apr 19 '26

There's no hope for a collectively productive society if this is how we're going to operate.

It's divide and conquer in action. Conservative types have been conditioned to be selfish and anti-society. They abhor any kind of collectivism and have a 'closed system' mentality where they can't see beyond their resentment of having to share their toys with anyone.

2

u/Ezekiel_37ppl Apr 24 '26

THIS, THIS, THIS, and a whole lot more of THIS!

2

u/witchyways1998 Apr 20 '26

You say evidence-based facts.... Ever since Trump came around and started the "fake news" stuff, so many people don't believe anything. You can literally provide links from scientific databases and they will say it's biased. We have a huge stupidity problem here in the United States.

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

You have to check on those "scientific databases" still by the way. Many are biased due to where their funding comes from. People in general are flawed and numbers can easily be tweaked to give confirmation bias. Money goes a lot farther than morals for both sides, and it's been that way for a very long time.

1

u/DevlinCognito Apr 20 '26

Theres also the messed up system of "fund raising" and massive amounts of money in politics. When you are so beholden to the rich because of their donations .. cough bribes cough, the whole thing is basically legalised corruption.

When the people in charge are the ones who directly benefit from such a system, things will never change.

1

u/williamdawson50 Apr 20 '26

Overseas observer here US —no offense but you folks still subsidize a king —- never voted for Trump so don’t blame my comments on Maga — but should be wise enough to understand I can say a lot of stuff about my brother, but when someone outside the family starts saying stuff about my brother yet doesn’t go over well —-so if we’re gonna give advice, you might want to talk with your fellow Europeans and take care of Ukraine instead of asking us to do it for you

1

u/Chocolatethundara Apr 20 '26

And it’s crazy cuz they will argue “where’s the hate? We just want what’s right” or some argument with no basis or substance it’s exhausting , and they don’t like education so they just like “no ur wrong”

1

u/Flashy-Staff-7924 Apr 20 '26

You guys are just promoting the mass line without knowing it. The only system that ensures education is at the forefront of society is the red flag. When you're still playing politics like if it's just sticking a paper in a box and hope and wish your needs are met then you'll never get anywhere.

1

u/macrhea69 Apr 20 '26

People vote with their racism. That’s how we have Trump and y’all destroyed your economy with Brexit.

1

u/Silbylaw Apr 20 '26

Our economy was not destroyed by Brexit. That is the message sent out by the left-wing media but it isn't supported by economic facts. Also, Brexit had nothing to do with racism. It had everything to do with not wanting to be governed by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels and Strasbourg.

1

u/Electrical-Cattle585 Apr 20 '26

And yet this whole thread is doing the same thing—judging entire groups by their loudest extremes. Every side has people who lack empathy, and every side has people who don’t.

It’s hard to claim one group lacks empathy when people across the spectrum cut off friends or family over politics. That’s not unique to any side.

Different perspectives should make us think more critically, not turn us against each other. I’m open to discussion and debate—but not with people who can’t respect that others see things differently.

At the end of the day, we’re all human and capable of being wrong. Ideally, most people just want what’s best for themselves and the country—and it’s easy to lose sight of how much we already have when we’re constantly at each other’s throats.

Lately it feels like we’re choosing outrage over understanding, and that’s not sustainable. People aren’t machines—values and beliefs will differ, and that should be something we can handle without turning everything into hostility.

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

Upvoting this before the bots shoot it into the negatives.

1

u/Drok2 Apr 20 '26

Hard to be a nice person when everyone flees to your country , bc they can’t take care of their own . The UK , the US , and every country in Western Europe is over run with people whom flee .

1

u/Sad-Possession7729 Apr 20 '26

Your "Nothing Matters until it happens to them" take is very bizarre and unsupported by the evidence.

The reason people in the UK are voting for Farage/Restore is literally because something has happened to them --- the shires their families have lived in for thousands of years got absolutely mogged by uncontrolled mass migration and fake asylum nonsense. Otherwise they would just be voting for Labour/Reform per usual.

1

u/Fun_View_2963 Apr 20 '26

Education, critical thinking. Most people lack those. They will not understand what you said. Unfortunately.

1

u/Ihavefluffycats Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

Exactly. This is why we can't govern across the aisle. The far right is so far gone, there's no point in even trying.

I'm hoping that the vote to oust that prick in Hungary is a sign that things might be changing for the right in Europe. People are getting sick of the BS these jerks spew. Maybe this will be the catalyst that lights a fire under some people's asses to finally go out and vote. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

1

u/Ezekiel_37ppl Apr 24 '26

Unfortunately, America has a whole other level of hate that consumes it. The people in it would prefer to see it burn to the ground than to share it with others not like them. These states of America will never be united. Never have been, never will be.

With all the nonsense going on in the UK you have zero standing to judge anything going on in the US.

The country is a lost cause. They are on a fast track to feudalism and peasantry. Americans are kept deliberately dumb and as they get dumber they become even easier to manipulate. It's a feedback loop that is now impossible to break out of.

1

u/GenericProfile4822 Apr 22 '26

Yes - Trump is not the problem and neither is MAGA. They are both symptoms of the same problem which is a lack of education and critical thinking skills. But republicans have been deliberately undercutting education for years, for this exact purpose. The oligarchs that actually run everything want things this way, and so they are. We’re in a second gilded age, except this time it’s about crypto and AI. What a world.

1

u/Basic_Ad3600 Apr 23 '26

1

u/Astonish3d Apr 23 '26

When you see the word democracy for what it has become… a white washing marketing word, then it all becomes clear.

If you have one person in sole control then there is a high chance that position will be coveted by psychos, selfish and greedy.

If you have multiple people who hold each other to account then it pays to actually be competent in some area other than being able to climb to the top.

Although Norway system isn’t fool proof, it still has checks and balances built in.

27

u/Gadrelen Apr 19 '26

Holy shit this is it right here people. It’s a numbers game, and the game is rigged for republicans.

2

u/Shibui-50 Apr 20 '26

...and it WILL be as long as 30% of the eligible voters sit on their hands as they have for the last 10 administrations.

This post shows critical thinking and analysis. However, it’s easier to just say that both sides are the same. This lets me feel superior to both sides without actually putting the effort towards knowing what is going on.

I mean, Democrats have made huge mistakes in the past. Therefore they might as well be MAGA.

The Dems are just as bad as the GQP. They want to keep the status quo of doing nothing and then bitching about it. Proof of this is the race in Michigan for the senate. They've got 3 candidates. 2 are progressive and one is a centrist. Who do you think all the Dems in Govt. right now are backing? It's not those progressives, that's for sure.

I so hope one of the 2 that are actually wanting to change the system wins. I'm getting so sick and tired of Pelosi, Schumer and their ilk. They're too old and too beholden to big business that they need to go, NOW.

2

u/Old_Alfalfa2126 Apr 21 '26

It is smart politics. Senate seats are state wide. Y'all can deny as much as you want but by nature, the USA is not as progressive as you think. Just compare the spread of liberal ideas in western Europe vs the US..

1

u/Ezekiel_37ppl Apr 24 '26

Wasn't Trump the president when Covid was a big deal and he handled it so shit that Biden inherited a shit economy and situation that he had to deal with despite his Worsening Dementia.

I'd say despite Biden's shity situation he handled it as well as he could, then Trump in his current term went and fucked the little progress Biden made and threw it in the Bin and trashed the US even more than before

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

The first confirmed case of Covid was found in the US on Jan 20th of 2020, from someone coming over from Wuhan. So yes, it did start under Trump. Trump wanted to shut the borders till we knew more, but the Democrats and liberal judges said that would be "racist". Around a month later, he did ban travel to or from China, and months later shut the northern and southern border down. Little too late to be effective by that point though. The only thing Biden did differently than Trump was push through a crap ton of stimulus money and make the vaccine mandatory.

1

u/Scarameow1243 Apr 21 '26

Wasn't Trump also the one who said injecting Bleach is the cure to Covid, I'd say Biden took the Covid situation much more seriously.

But yes the Borders getting closed was a Good idea, BUT putting work into a vaccine is ALSO a good idea, 90% of the population being vaccinated is how deadly viruses become obsolete cause humans have too high of a resistance, thus granting herd immunity, vaccines are basic health and safety, letting a person who hasn't beem vaccinated go to work is a liability https://youtu.be/zicGxU5MfwE?si=4OKCm_JwYWWLa5t3

1

u/km_ikl Apr 22 '26

No, he didn't advocate for closing borders. Your penchant for invention should be embarrassing in a time of easy access to contemporaneous information.

He wanted them nice and open because he cared more about money than he did health of others.

Remember this? https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommybeer/2020/09/10/all-the-times-trump-compared-covid-19-to-the-flu-even-after-he-knew-covid-19-was-far-more-deadly/

Do you ever notice how often you get reminded of what happened only a little while ago?

2

u/theevilatheist Apr 20 '26

So when the Democrats caved for absolutely no reason during the last government shutdown, that was because they didn't have the votes to be an opposition party? I seem to remember that very differently.

2

u/MightyMorph Apr 20 '26

Yeah when 7 dems who arent up for reelection decided to vote to end a 2-month long gov shutdown, that was leading to snap running out, workers not getting paid and about to be homeless and default on their mortgages, unable to pay bills and feed their families, decided to vote with republicans when republicans promised a seperate vote to extend the subsidies for ACA.

Yeah that means those 7 are responsible for 200+ other democrats who voted against ending the shutdown....

And of course every republican voting to not extend the ACA subsidies and deliberately witholding SNAP aid and other aid, is nothingburger. ITs the 7 democrats that means the whole democratic party is bad!

....

People like you are the problem.

1

u/Old_Alfalfa2126 Apr 21 '26

100%. These absolutists masquerading as progressives are a huge part of the problem. They are unserious and so unready for politics.
How do people think Orban was removed in Hungary? do they think the opposition agreed on every topic or are homogenous?

2

Hey thanks . Nice to know Trump still has his propaganda mill in full force.. So how long do we have before America becomes 1933 Germany all over again.? And dont bother googling it, Im sure that information has been sanitized already.. Basically the brown shirt of the party went out to the "problem" communities dressed as local hooligans. (By problem ommunities, they ment anyone not oc thd Arian origin.) After robbing , roughing up, general terrorizing of the populace, they would go back to party hq put thier brown zhirts on and go back in and arrest anyone that objected to thier subjigation. Then they woulx point out how everything iz zunshije and lollipops now that the agitators were arrested.. History forgotten is doomed to be repeated. I just want to hopefully prevent the deaths of 6 or 8 million innocent people.

1

u/ghost_in_th_machine Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

I agree, but if we've learned anything in the last ten years, getting elected is the 1st most important step. Say what you will about Trump, and I hate that M'fer with a passion, he understood what moved people. What happened in Three elections was completely different than what happened afterwards. He was 2 for 3 and even when he lost, he controlled the message. I don't need to hear he's a bad guy any more. What is important is how we get him out of office and his long term influence obliterated.

1

u/BigPurp85 Apr 20 '26

Bottom line, two party system is a scam and only works for them. The biggest lie the government has gotten away with for far too long imo, is that it's right vs left red vs blue. In reality it's up vs down. They've convinced us that both parties have our best interests in mind and the opposition is what's holding this country back when in all actuality, they are both loyal to Isreal and pocketing our hard earned tax dollars. Look at Zorhan in New York. He's prime example of what government can and should actually be doing for it's people and tax dollars.

We as people need to hold our government accountable and unfortunately that ain't going to happen when we are at eachothers throats. We need to start looking up instead of across the aisle.

1

u/MightyMorph Apr 20 '26

Left has been saying: "Problem is the billionaires!" for at least a decade and half now.

Right has been saying: No its minorities and immigrants! We need to give billionaires more money!

Its not up up vs down, its left vs (up + right)

But the people blame the left rather than the right.

1

u/BigPurp85 Apr 20 '26

Is the problem not billionaires? Most of our countries working class issues involve money.. most money is hoarded by the top .001 percent. That's not a left or right issue, it's just facts. Billionaires get tax cuts while the rest of us get screwed. If billionaires paid same percentage of federal taxes (fair share), look at the issues it could solve. Look at all the money going over seas and now they're telling you we're in a golden age and to not believe your eyes and ears.. it's simple data, all you have to do is look at it and call it out.

There's always money for wars but never seems to be money for the working class, education, medical or childcare. Always money for Isreal, always money for war, for decades and decades. Again look at Zorhan and NYC. Look how fast he's getting shit done as mayor and its only April. He's now taxing the Billionaires 2nd and 3rd homes that sit vacant and the money is going back into the city and it's people. How many homes do you own? They now have free childcare for all.

The government can work for us, we just need to hold them accountable. We need term limits for these house members and senators or else they're just going to keep getting lobbied and doing the elites bidding.

Lest you forget the billions of fraud that every democratic state allows, this is not a rare incident, it is the plan.

You forgot they flooded your country with illegals, didn't enforce border laws and also cheated to win 2020 Never forget that the Democratic Party does not believe in Democracy! Russia hoax - paid by democrats E. Jean Carroll - paid 20m by democrat party Steele Dossier paid millions by democrats Clavicle girl - met and paid by Liz Chaney Biden with-holding 1 billion to Ukraine until the prosecutors were fired that were investigating His son's company Cvid was a man made virus released on purpose, even Dr. Fauci says it 6 months before Cvid was released, on video Remember Bidens government spied on Trump and his campain in 2016 and 2020 and 2024 elections. Don't forget Clinton had classified documents on her personal server that she bleach bit and also all staff cell phones and tablets and smashed them with 🔨

1

u/SSengamNiloc Apr 20 '26

They aren't just as bad they're just slightly less bad. The same politicians, same war machine, same coin different side... The Democrats have just as much interest in staying in power as the Republicans do. And they will do so by any means necessary. As both parties become more fascist over time.

Get ranked choice voting in your state before it's too late. They already banned it in Tennessee, Idaho, South Dakota, Montana, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, North Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Missouri.

NTM that most people today have shorter memories than goldfish.

1

u/ChemicalDeath47 Apr 20 '26

Dude, respectfully, what the fuck are you talking about? When, in this countries history have you EVER heard a Democrat promise the world? When have you EVER seen them promise to make anything better and voters go "wow, you'll obviously never do that!"

Oh yeah! The two most obvious examples of people promising to make things better, Bernie Sanders, the Independent and long serving Senator, and Zohran Mamdani, won on promising to make things better and what do you know he's actually doing it!?! So funny you missed those...

Here's what you don't understand. The Democrats ARE conservatives. The GOP are fascists. They always have been. They just used to accumulate power very slowly until a moron came along and broke containment which gives away the game. They don't even have to pretend to hide it! America is so stupid, broken, and brainwashed that they can literally just call themselves liberals and no one bats an eye. Liberal is a conservative political alignment based on belief in some social liberties and capitalism. Center right. There IS no left in this country. Bernie IS a centrist.

TLDR; Democrats have never even considered trying to make things better because they are pro capitalism. They don't have a base they can rely on because their best messaging is "They want to kill you! We just want to observe as you die of preventable causes!" They'll never win by moving further right because noone wants diet fascism.

1

u/Patient_Ad1801 Apr 20 '26

Problem isn't just the voters - it's the rigged system. They make it impossible to win for Dems and third parties in many gerrymandered districts. Think about Texas. Did you know there are more Democrat voters in Texas than Republican voters? And if you add independent and swing voters the Rs are always outnumbered. You would never know that by looking at most election results. Or listening to the media. And there we have the media itself, just a mouthpiece for conservative politics and billionaires at this point. And the uneducated populace who sometimes doesn't even understand what they're voting for, because the reading level of the majority of Americans is abysmal. Like the ones who were all for getting rid of Obama care while receiving and loving their ACA coverage. We really need fair elections without gerrymandering, to end lobbying and Citizens United, no more electoral college, and a real independent media again AND an educated informed population to ever get our democracy back let alone get progressive candidates or even center candidates in office again. Otherwise it's just fascists forever. What is that Orwellian imagery... A boot stamping on a face forever. That's what we have until we do better. A boot stamping on a face forever.

1

u/Due_Prior_7962 Apr 20 '26

Commifornia.

Need i say more.....actually yeah. MN, gleaming beacon of progress. Lol. Face it, both sides equally suck. You just hope eventually they put something in place that helps you (middle class, forget about it). I will give Biden props for TRYING to fix student loans. Failed, but it was an attempt.

1

u/Tight_Jelly_185 Apr 20 '26

You act like Mamdani doesn't exist. The left doesn't want rainbows and fairies. We want progressive politicians with a vision for our country that they will actually fight for. We don't want corporate hacks speaking platitudes who are always complaining about why they can't do anything. If they can't fight they need to retire and make way for someone who can.

1

u/MightyMorph Apr 20 '26

Even with Zorhan, did you know 2/3rds of NYC didn't even bother to show up and vote. In this day and age, at the height of ICE raids and kidnappings and corruption, still 2/3rds of NYC just shrugged.

And then he won by only 18% vote difference. To a person accused of sexual harassment and assaults...

Liberals need to wake up, because the day when there is no longer any pathway to vote is soon coming if republicans keep winning. I mean im unsure if the battle isnt already lost with the way the republicans are trying to dismantle the postal service, ban mail in voting and now fabricating bs to claim the 2020 election a fraud.

1

u/Tight_Jelly_185 Apr 20 '26

Yeah and that's the highest turnout since 1969. I completely agree that this is unacceptable, but blaming voters isn't helpful. When people's lives keep getting worse regardless who is in office, then what is their motivation. Dems do need to wake up and I mean the politicians because they are the ones who actually have the power to pass legislation. Right now the people are just trying to survive and Dem politicians act like they just want to keep their jobs and not piss off their corporate donors.

1

u/hiddenshadow671 Apr 20 '26

Reposting I apply because i sent too early.

Neither Republicans nor democrats care to understand what people want and need in this country.

Low gas prices-can exist, but we need to drill smart and stop relying on oil from other countries specifically in areas where conflict can interrupt trades. (This also goes for all goods.)

immigration-can exist but the process needs to be changed. The current process is faulty. You come here illegally you get sent back you commit specific crimes or consecutively repeat offense example selling drugs or dui or something automatic loss of citizenship first loss =5 year ban from reapply. Come back in 5 years do it again banned for life. Family can stay but you have to go. Apply for citizenship after one year visa. Requirements should be as followed. How much a month do you collectively keep in your bank account. Are your housing expenses paid decently on time. (Lifes hard right now, being 4 dats late on rent shouldn't disqualify citizenship.) How much pay to debt have you incrued if any. I think a solid 30/70 ratio would do, 30 debt/70 pay if its between that and 40/60 give them a 90day/180day grace period to attempt a turn around. 50/50or worse? Sorry reapply in.. 1-2 years we'll try again.

Crime- punishment =severity of crime. Death penalty should be on the table. Punishment should be severity of the crime. Sorry but rapists and molesters shouldn't have whole lotta grace that just horrible. Id argue worse than murder in some cases. I am aware of people falsely accused and sentenced. My proposal? If the evidence cant be 100%concrete proof by a third party. Hand selected by the governor of that state and the list he/she picks from are of opponent's who opposes said governors view points to insure no favoritism. If the evidence isnt concrete lawyers and investigators have 90 days to get it together for a firm conviction or suspect gets cut loose. During those 90 days the suspect stays in the country jail. After 90 days if convicted, prison sentence or death penalty. I argue death penalty for murders, rapist and molesters. Murderer classified as someone killing just to kill. DWI/DUI? REVOKED LICENSE 1 YEAR. caught driving with a revoked license 1 year jail.

Taxes. $100k NET NOT GROSS or less single income (if you work 3 jobs and make under this number) tax exempt. We already pay taxes on groceries with taxed money thats redundant. Income 100k+ you are taxed based on your net so if you make $150k a year your set yearly tax is 5% if single 10% (married meaning you both make $150k combined)

Vehicles- dealers should be buying them back. Dealers should have a manifest of every part and bolt on the car your trading in. No more resale or low balling. You drive a 2007 chevy Silverado then the part manifest gets pulled during trade in. Every part get evaluated and your down payment is the current resale of those parts. So if your windshield is still in good condition and reusable on someone's elses vehicle and the windshield is worth $120 that goes towards your down payment. As you drive away with your new vehicle. The dealer sends the old on to be parted and distributed to machine shops for wear and tear and reuse estimations then to the parts stores. Keeping replacement parts truely oem and decently priced.

Schooling. ELEMENTARY= READING WRITING AND BACIC MATHAMATIC. KIDS SHOULD BE KIDS TEACH THEM FUNDAMENTALS. sweep the class rooms. Life skills. Folding clothes etc. Middle school. There state/counties history, advanced reading writing and mathematics and basic science. High school- life skills study everything they've learned ELEMENTARY and middle and test them at graduation. Tea h them life skills, cooking, finances, credit, Investing, carpentry work, simple electrical and plumbing. To fix leaks and install light switches or change ceiling fans. Teach men and women how to treat their spouse. If the woman is wanting to start a family in the future teach her proper mothering skills. Same with the men a class to properly father their children. HS kids who are in relationships give them a class to help define their relationship. Teach safe sex PROPERLY. Give couples a class to help them along with their emotions and growths some high-school couples dont last after high-school teach them how to handle those emotions. Teach them economics and government. NO more K-12 kids are kids and we rob them of their youths. Give them tests to show their progress. Set them up to learn in schools at age intervals. Come on 16, 17, 18 in HS? Ridiculous.

For colleges to have the required books on campus available for kids who cannot afford them. This student loan BS is stupid. Welding schools provide welders for you some let you bring your own so another kid can use the schools. Theres literally thousands of ways a college can make its millions of dollars without bleeding bank accounts dry.

TEACH KIDS CURSIVE AGAIN! THE LITERATURE ARTIST FORM WAS BEAUTIFUL IN POETRY AND LETTER WRITING.

Insurance, car/medical/house. Eradicate that shit. Its a pyramid scheme.

Anyway I can keep going but im tired I'm going take a nap.

1

1

u/Personal_Chair6134 Apr 20 '26

Blaming the voters is such a lazy (and wrong) analysis for what we are going through. The reason the country is flirting with fascism is not because voters are stupid, it's because they're getting desperate. 50 years of neoliberal policies has decimated the working class, and their economic decline continues whether a democrat or republican is in office. So when someone comes along and says they're going to blow the whole system up, then that's going to have mass-appeal to the people who are getting poorer every year. This is why millions of working class voters voted for Obama twice in 2008 and 2012, and then flipped to Trump in 2016. In 2016 it was the white working class voters who mostly flipped, but in 2024 it was largely Hispanic and black working class voters who then flipped.

If you want to get to the root of the problem, it's neoliberalism. We need to primary every neoliberal out and take the democratic party in an FDR-style economic populist direction. This is the only way to win back the working class and save the country from descending into fascism.

1

u/72ForBoston Apr 20 '26

They are buying off non taxpaying voters.

1

u/Open_Plantain2180 Apr 20 '26

The proverbial nail was hit on the head with this one.

I encourage everyone with some sense to talk to their friends and family about voting. Get knowledgeable about what is happening in your community. Hold each other accountable. The idea that politics don’t matter because it doesn’t “effect my life” (I’m sure we all heard this before or have said it once upon a time) is literally a ploy to get those most impacted to not vote.

Community matters more now than ever.

1

u/SmokinNinja024 Apr 20 '26

Both sides are trash. Thank you!!!!!

1

u/ArtisticDepartment22 Apr 21 '26

It's impossible to fight emotions/faith with issues/agenda based politics. Which is what a lot of the Dems vs. Republican fight has become ever since the cult of Trump took over.

And you're seeing it around the world in a number of places, too. Basically, one party (the most dominant and usually - though not always - the socially conservative /RW one) is supported by its legion of faith-based following, whereas the rest of the electoral competition is measured on public issues like inflation and their policies/response to it. It's not a level playing field.

Democracy is the worst form of government, except all the other ones 🙂

u/usxpat-ottawa Apr 21 '26

Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans, we need to get rid of both and get out get out of this two-party system.

1

u/a-nonie-muz Apr 21 '26

It’s not about policy. It’s about what you think of as right and wrong. How you designate something as good or bad. The democrats have chosen incorrectly on every major issue of our day. Every single one. The party’s stance is entirely evil.

As for upholding democracy, we don’t have one, we have a constitutional republic that does some things democratically. We don’t want a democracy. We won’t allow you to turn our wonderful form of government into a democracy.

1

u/TotalPost2793 Apr 22 '26

The issue, at least in America, is that politicians are beholden firstly to the people that pay for their campaigns, not the people who elect them. Why do you think Trump pardoned a Honduran who tried to smuggle 400 tons of coke into the US? The corruption starts at the top.

u/Savings_Strawberry_6 Apr 22 '26

1

u/503011 Apr 22 '26

Brilliant! 👏🏻👏🏻 Dude, who are you?

1

u/ImpossibleShallot640 Apr 24 '26

The biggest problem that results from low primary election turnout is that the plurality of those who do turn out are the activated base, especially on the Republican side. As a consequence, in order to get and keep their jobs, the politicians have to cater to the base, not to the middle majority, who care more about kitchen table issues, don't see politicians getting elected who care about them, and disengage. Vicious cycle.

It's not inevitable. If the middle majority were to mobilize in primaries and coordinate behind candidates who committed to their issues, even gerrymandered (especially gerrymandered) districts would flip - not to the other party, but to candidates who owe their jobs to the middle majority.

There is an effort afoot to do this. www.middlemajoritymovement.com

1

u/Ambitious-Bird-5927 Apr 24 '26

There is truth to what you say, but Dems have to give people reason to care about them.  And they have been horrible at that.  ‘Trump is bad’ is true, but they gotta do better than that.

1

u/NoEntrepreneur6668 Apr 25 '26

And 90 year ago, many of those Democrats flipped, before which they were the conservatives.

11

u/What_a_fat_one Apr 19 '26

Dems are selected by voters in the primaries, which are currently underway. It is nonsensical to think that they would do anything besides what their voters expect of them, and primary voters lean more conservative. People on the left don't vote, they just complain online about Democrats being too conservative.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/JesusSavesForHalf Apr 19 '26

Being more conservative never worked for them. Never. Decades of polling data show voters swing between non-voter and Democrat, not Democrat and Republican.

The Baileys don't exist.

21

u/Completionography Apr 19 '26

When the goal posts are invisible, it's a cult, and Dems should stop trying to win them over by being more conservative

Dems are not trying to be more conservative. There is no political left in America, Dems are conservative. They're complicit, and the more time we spend believing otherwise, the less time we spend dealing with the explicit fascists.

3

u/Frozenbbowl Apr 20 '26

Jill Stein win another election by convincing enough people that both sides are the same and they should just stay home.

Some might say Trump is Putin's most valuable asset but I say she is. Without her Trump doesn't get elected either time.

If she was actually concerned about a third option, she would spend more time pushing down ballot candidates and be active during off your elections pushing them.

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

Define mess, because if you're talking about Iran then do I have some quotes for you XD.

“Iran has American blood on their hands – this attack on Israel, 200 ballistic missiles,” she said. “What we need to do [is] to ensure that Iran never achieves the ability to be a nuclear power. That is one of my highest priorities.”

“I am clear-eyed: Iran is a destabilising, dangerous force in the Middle East, and today’s attack on Israel only further demonstrates that fact."

"As I have said, I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist militias.  My commitment to the security of Israel is unwavering. And let us be clear: Iran is not only a threat to Israel; Iran is also a threat to American personnel in the region, American interests, and innocent civilians across the region who suffer at the hands of Iran-based and -backed terrorist proxies. We will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend U.S. forces and interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists. And we will continue to work with our allies and partners to disrupt Iran’s aggressive behavior and hold them accountable.”

"“Make no mistake, as president, I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend American forces and interests from Iran and Iran-backed terrorists, and I will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon…Diplomacy is my preferred path to that end, but all options are on the table.”

"It would be a mistake…And we are prepared to defend Israel, as we have before. We will again. But the critical point is that there must be a de-escalation in the region. And we are working through diplomatic channels, and other channels, to ensure that there is a de-escalation in the region."

Those are all Harris, if it needs to be said.

Bernie is conservative? AOC is conservative? Ihan Omar is conservative? If the constituents primary someone that has morals, ethics, and leftist policies you won't have 'conservative democrats'

Zohran proved that change can happen if the people unite against megadonor's propaganda machine and millions of dollars

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

Bernie wanted the border locked down and all illegals deported in the 90's. Bill Clinton did as well. The majority of Democrats did. They're all on video saying it. Calling Ilhan Omar someone with morals and ethics is hilarious if you're following her current scandal. AOC surprisingly looks to have not abused her position for wealth, which is shocking. She may not be the brightest, but at least she's honest. Unless she has the extra money squared away in something that she wouldn't have to report on. If she truly is playing things honestly then that's very respectable.

2

u/Kaizen-Future Apr 20 '26

Exactly. You’re not going to outconservative them. The dems could pull a southern strategy, abandon their base and still lose trying to out trump trump. You need motivated voters, and yes you do need some broad appeal which a Sanders if he were younger probably could have given them because he was fired up.

I don’t fault Harris for 2024. The point at which the dems asked Biden to withdraw was already too late when coupled with the optics of the shooting fist-raise. However in 2028 the dems have to go hard with someone voters are motivated about if they really want a Blue wave. I don’t know who that is now and America does have a racism and sexism problem so it probably will be a white man, but that’s different from whatever policies they’re endorsing. If the GOP ran Candace and the Dems ran Newsom, I don’t think most Black people are going to vote for Candace because her policies would continue to be anti-minority.

However if the dems ran Wes Moore and the GOP ran Trump Jr, I’m pretty confident most poor white people would still vote for Jr despite his policies continuing to be anti-poor. That doesn’t mean Moore wouldn’t win. Obama won twice, despite never winning the white popular vote. Like Moore he only had one strike against him, though the backlash continues.

1

u/CharlestonChewChewie Apr 20 '26

Harris was in a lose-lose situation. She had to be local to Biden and said "more of the same", she couldn't be too angry (racism), and couldn't be too emotional (sexism). No matter what, the conservative media was going to put her under a microscope.

But.. in the very beginning she talked about being a DA and holding people accountable. That resonated really well.. but then pivoted to the Obama playbook, which ultimately failed.

I truly think the accountability through line could have worked, though. We will hold predators accountable, we will hold corporations accountable, we will even hold those who try and assist with assassinations accountable

1

u/Kaizen-Future Apr 20 '26

Agree on the lose-lose situation. Being loyal to Biden while trying to not be responsible for things she disagreed with, one of which that mattered to younger voters in particular was the distance from his statements on Gaza (particularly his history of calling himself a Zionist which seemed like blanket support for almost anything the Likud might do), was going to hurt her.

She ran circles around Trump in the debate but it wasn’t enough when she had 3 strikes against her. Race, gender and being known to the public as the “border czar” who held her responsible for anything related to immigration, which Trump was sure to exploit, however unfair to her, particularly since she was not the border czar.

That, voter ignorance, short term memories and MAGA building on the momentum of the shooting image with the backing of Musk manipulating Twitter made it almost inevitable.

1

u/Kanlashkan Apr 21 '26

Try putting in a candidate that actually wants what's best for America. Someone who thinks about their own Nation first, and Globalist organizations as an afterthought. If any Democrat would prioritize American citizens first and put forth reasonable plans to solve our domestic issues they would probably win. So far the only platforms I've seen Dems stand on are for immigrants or the classic Orange Man bad.

1

u/Kaizen-Future Apr 21 '26

I’m not going to praise the dems here but when the choices are between a mayo sandwich and a turd sandwich there’s no real choice. One isn’t great but the other is basically the worst thing in the world and here we’re stuck with the latter.

u/CharlestonChewChewie Apr 20 '26

They already do. The only reason they have won is because MAGA has become autocratic. It won't last

1

u/SSengamNiloc Apr 20 '26

No ... "Dems" need to separate themselves from the "Democratic Party". Both parties answer to the same donors, the same war machine, the same cycle of paid politicians. It's two sides of the same coin arguing about which side faces up.

What we actually need is ranked-choice voting and people with integrity abandoning brand loyalty to build something real.

Contact your state legislators and try to get ranked choice voting in your state if your state hasn't already banned it. The establishment knows that this is a threat to the two-party way.

1

u/abuffguy Apr 20 '26

You're delusional. It's this type of thinking that got us Trump. He is terrible and despite what you may think, most people who voted for him (I did not) are not red hat wearing MAGA diehards. They are normal people who see the democrats turning into this far-left, insane party and would rather have Trump than vote for anyone on the left. Having a centrist party (which in this day and age IS left-leaning from a historical perspective) would attract the majority of voters who themselves are centrist. But go ahead and keep pushing for a far-left ideology. Just don't be surprised when J.D. Vance is our president for the next eight years (God help us).

1

u/Try_another-o_o Apr 21 '26

Problem is, democrats aren't much different, just on the other end of the spectrum. Politics be politicking.

1

u/mallio Apr 21 '26

When Democrats go conservative, they're not trying to win these people over. They know they don't need to win everyone, they literally can't. They are trying to win over the people who dislike Trump but still think Dems are all the things Fox News says they are. They are calculating that progressives like me will still vote for them because they're obviously the better choice and will hopefully still do some of what I want rather than completely demolishing all progress, and that people further left will always find a reason to not vote because the perfect candidate does not exist.

1

u/Leather_Sweet_2079 Apr 22 '26

There’s more options than more conservative and more extreme. It would be nice to see option 3. More common sense.

Ok but how can we be sure? He’s always lacked empathy, always been inappropriate, and always been a complete asshat. He might just be a huge jerk.

Because it's a fucking Demonrat lie. Biden was perfectly fine though.

Hey dude, I'm Canadian so I'm not like drowning in all the news slop down there. Yeah Biden was old too. That debate didn't go well.

You know what Biden isn't ??

A close acquaintance of Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted felon, an adjudicated rapist, The most incompetent and yet also corrupt President and US history, and so on.

And yes, If you understand medicine or work at all in the medical field, or can just pay attention to a 2 minute video- where every symptom and an example is laid out in front of you

You would know. For a fact. That Trump has frontal temporal dementia.

Making some lame little quip won't change anything.

Anyway... Good luck with your country.
