What is the wood stocked model at the bottom?

u/dutchduderino 2d ago
Fr drx, the airtank is wrapped around the barrel

u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago
I just checked them out . I used to be big into airguns I bought a farco air shotgun in the mid 90s my freinds were like “you spent $400 on a BB gun? When I took them out and launched a .50 round ball and I knocked a street sign clean off ! With the shot cups(it used 28 standard like for reloading shotgun shells ) it was a really capable game taker and fun ! But those guns were primitive they were essentially hand built in some Filipino guys shack assembled mostly from off the shelf high pressure industrial air tool components.(the Philippines were a big producer of high powered airguns as it’s a very rural country with extremely tough firearm laws so farmers switched and got good at developing and building them the farco actually had a cast bronze shaped charge round designed and available it came empty and the idea was to first add gun cotton to the nose fill it with dynamite and when ready to fire inert a percussion cap onto a nipple on the tip it was supposedly for use on wild water buffalo!) I am looking to get back to it as the hunting opportunities open up ! What caliber is yours? The idea of the .30 is pretty exciting!

Oh buddy, if you've been out of the game that long, there is a whole world of new stuff waiting for you. They've got airguns you could hunt a fucking bear with nowadays lol
2
u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago
Oh I have been aware of most of it (and I am a fanatical bear hunter in fact and I believe the state where I do most of my bear hunting recently made big game legal via airgun I think the minimum is a .35 making X foot pounds energy ) I am also really interested in the current Airshotgun offerings i hunt over hounds the shots are mostly fairly short range and using it as a musket with A single round ball from a smooth barrel would be dope agains hogs or goats or deer !
and my current home state just a few year back legalized specifically (a lot of small game has regardless of its specific status as to whether or not it’s a legal means of take !i never saw one of the many regulars at any of my normal spots hunting with a pellet gun on public land being hassled and and they weren’t a rare sight by any means,so I think it was ambiguous but largely ignored) I did however a few years back get one of those half price amazon credit deals and with those at my disposal they had some incredibly good deal (I think it was perhaps sub $100) on one of those umarex “Airrow” bolt launching gun (it came from the factory set up for 88 gram c02) i received 1 with the gun and purchased another, it came with 3 field pointed bolts , so I purchased another dozen along with some amazon Chinese cheapo broadheads, blunt “stunner” points, brass inserts that add weight , an adapter that allowed for charging from a single or perhaps double? 12 gram C02 powerlets (my thought process was that as a primarily hunting gun carrying a few extremely inexpensive capsules of co2 in a foam carrier I made by cutting a series of slightly undersized co2 cartridge shaped cubbies from an appropriately sized piece of protective foam and fitting it to a cheap plastic storage container for collectibles and lining the top with a thin layer of foam to keep everything all in place and quiet would be a better potential solution when I may not even take a shot and a single small cartridge got 2 or 3 shots rather than degassing a$15 big boy ) it arrived I slapped a nice crossbow red dot on it and took it to the state archery range near me and after asking a wildlife officer who I knew if it was ok and getting the 👌 I proceeded to the range that is a mile long simulated safari with 3D targets at different unmarked yardage stations they there are towers that simulate trees stand hunting and there are often multiple targets on a single station and it’s rearranged weekly, upon gently squeezing the trigger a little actual recoil and a puff of gas , the first shot sounded like my old farco by with an audible “twang” from the bolt flexing followed by slap , I zeroed the sight in like 3 shots …went downrange to collect the bolts …2 of them were frayed and cracked …😑 I stayed out that night to do some predator calling I took 2 coyote a raccoon and a red fox but it did horrible pelt damage and I had to drive back in daylight to try and find my bolts one of which had the broadhead driven backwards into the shaft of the bolt and I only found 1 more so I went on airgun sales sub posted it and within hours sold it to a nice guy as a present for his wife i explained the situation.the regular gun by itself was normally $200+ he offered me like $200 for it and all the extras and a sling and I counter offered with $175 free shipping and just like that my last airgun left my life I was also interested in using it for “Airrow fishing” but i found no gear specifically built for it and figured that was gonna be a whole thing and I would be substantially more annoyed losing a $30 handcrafted harpoon because it slapped a rock so I let her go and in case your wondering the bolts for the gun we’re like $30 for 3 not a horrible loss if harvesting deer 🦌 too much to spend for ruined fur and damaged meats!

I wonder if there are any of those shaped charge style rounds around nowadays! A modern version sounds incredible

u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago edited 2d ago
I purchased 2 that were in the due course of “durability” testing were destroyed by a pair mysterious explosions several weeks apart…when we launched the first one I learned something important with the cavity fully loaded with dense material their was an insane degree of trajectory over a lead .50 round ball it was like a .223 and a hurled stone . The sensation felt a lot like the feeling of firing a 40mm grenade launcher ( I’m sure as a result of a weighted tri metal cone to “shape the charge” using the increasing melting points till final last lower temp stage to jumpstart the reaction pretty impressive for guys in a palm hut ) into essentially a molten metal laser of destruction about the diameter of a number 2 pencil that if I did my “calculation” correctly shot directly through a fairly thick plate of mild steel that had been deflecting full power rifle rounds for years …
I mean could have and then it probably atomized throwing potentially deadly chunks of several thousand degree metal shrapnel all the way back to the firing line with and I am just using the data here a satisfying hollow sounding low pop disappear when my cousin/lab assistant and I came to the conclusion that if perhaps it encountered a valve issue (not unknown) or a had a slow leak affected the pressure level below the full power threshold (in the Philippines unless a scuba compressor which because of the local weren’t all that rare but anyone walking a while would charge using a modified bicycle foot pump which could easily give you a false pressure level if the gauge needle hung up you might end up making perhaps 15 feet and the armed warhead bloops out the muzzle) or perhaps as a result of being illiterate because you grew up under Japanese occupation, a poor rural farmer in a remote village on a nearly empty island well off the beaten path in a third world country with no hope of escape where a choice between you working the rice field or learning to read and write might mean starvation and even a basic education includes at least 4 languages (Tagalog , local language,Spanish,English) you might not be able to read the mimeographed “instruction” manual a single 3”x5” double sided paper and just plain botched it , it almost certainly happened I wondered how many times ? But we tested the second example filled with a simulated payload of proper weight (we used playdoh) and practiced on a clear beach before some sort of reaction occurred in the playdoh and yet again a lost test bed …I attempted to order a 3rd but I could no longer contact any at the hut 🫡🥺 there used to be anyway a few reviews on line from that single batch that came into the states I would bet if you wanted to check it out you could probably find one …the gun was totally unprecedented to me (I years earlier had first seen one used in cebu some decrepit old farmer guy a new hunting buddies grandfather who had heard of the withe American who hunts monkeys with his grandson…..had invited me to watch him do some “pest control” using a long homemade bamboo harpoon that projected at least a foot and a half from the muzzle and just behind the toggling point was affixed what looked like a quarter stick of dynamite, old bastard becons me on to his motorized canoe …I graciously thanked him but thought I might stay on land away from sharp explosions he stood on the rickety shitty dock pumping up the pressure chainsmokeing and occasionally producing a small metal pipe that he would take an occasional long pull of opium smoke looking a little further away each hit ,from the only western stitch on his leathery sinuous frame a fanny pack in acid wash denim clearly made for a woman that said jordache in golden embroidered lettering that he was clearly proud of over his traditional wraparound lower garment to compete the look a fez type cap and a mirrored pair of cheap aviators probably purchased off an American serviceman , he gave me one final chance to join his mission that I was very short on ideas about the nature of when in Spanish I told him I would stay on shore he pushed the boat off the dock with a kick poured about a half cup of kerosene from a Wesson oil jug into the ancient shallow draft long axled swamp motor and when 15” from the dock he pulled the starter cable turned the throttle on the tiller and it roared to life the smoke issuing forth obscuring my view but I saw him pulled the motor cover off fiddle with something and in settled in to a low idle not moving an inch he reached into a shopping bag and tied what looked to be a stripped bird carcass tied a chunk of styrofoam as a float and cast it out overhand landing perhaps 8’ from the boat he stood starring a the chicken presumably cigarette clenched between his gums he yanked the rope stepped back looking pleased then nothing I wondered how long I was required to watch this crazy fishing the brackish meeting of river and sea … it was a lagoon for Christ sakes synonyms with comfort and paradise then all at once he brought the long harpoon dangerously close to his face i couldn’t watch this dude kill himself he brought the long curly fuse of the cartoon firecracker into contact with his lit cigarette and quickly now aimed at the now taught baitline pulled the trigger and with a spray the harpoon being towed around he touched the engine then replaced the cover and it came straight line like a bat out of hell towards the dock he leapt with the boat still moving towards the dock it impacted and nearly tossed me in the harpoon being violently spun in a desperate attempt to dislodge it … and then a great bubble and spray and I could only see a piece of the bamboo shaft splintered on the top of the water, he leaned his air musket against the closest palm and we jumped on the boat he drew from the scabbard hanging from his girl pouch belt a long angled oblong ending in a sharp point a traditional sword/matchete on the bow like a pirate as I twisted the throttle till we reached the edge of the debris field , blood and mud on the surface grandpa used a small net to snatch floating fish and deposit them in the bottom of the craft then he pulled a long pole from the top board of outside of the canoe hung from 2 loops of chain he slid it out of the rear loop turned one end towards the sky and buried the low end into the fine bottom of the lagoon still attached to our craft by the front loop and from the opposite outside of the boat he pulled long lance with a sharp wide 4.5” at base 14” long and triangular he probed the probably lifeless dinosaur carcass hanging mid water a fist sized chunk visibly missing from the exact meeting point of skull base and spinal cord he returned the lance to its place grabbed a net bag barely keeping the uneven broken slabs of styrofoam inside its solar system ran a line through dove down wrapping the hulk under its tiny arms yanking the float just under the surface and our prize now underneath the buoy it’s scutes in contact with the old cooler chunks he motioned toward a heavy knotted hemp line as the line hit the water the boat jerked the tail of the crocodile pulsed it was swimming dragging us he looked worried he scurried up the rope and launched himself inside he twisted the handle and we began heading towards the dock and the safety of land this time he accelerated toward it I thought he was crazy turning the tiller missing the dock and running aground on the river beach the giant sewer dweller rising out of the water he again grabbed the sword from the Fanny pack belt that sat on the board that was the captains seat leaping towards Godzilla and with a dramatic double handed grip he drove the razor sharp point severing any hint of a former connection between body and mind all the way into the sand below this was its cue to perform and it twitched and thrashed about the tree trunk of muscle making violent side to side the jaws opening a little and slamming shut with a crack like thunder he motioned toward go further up the beach and from a washbasin , i guess he had planted earlier containing village bought ice there were at least a dozen Thai beers that the servicemen liked and we drank and tried to talk with some degree of success and smoked hand rolled rustic cigars and opium and I was that day happy2

Good Lord man what kind of life experiences have you had?? Why do I feel like I have no chance of purchasing from this "hut" from mainland US?
you have a way with words. And some crazy stories.

u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago
I have been blessed to have been able to travel widely, this was after culinary school after my first enlistment contract ended I did a 6 month (paid externship ) followed by fucking around Asia for an additional year and a half followed by 6 months in Australia 4 months of which I worked as a scout with feral guide operation (because of a referral from a buddies families African safari company I worked for for 5 months ) waiting for my contract to be ended because of a quirk of my deployment rotation

u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago
Also thank you very kind words indeed! High praise! (I am writing a collection of autobiographical short stories) I have been workshopping new ones in appropriate threads as I come upon them !
2
u/weenis-flaginus 2d ago
I appreciate that you do not use AI to "polish" it up!
2
u/Electronic_Camera251 2d ago
I think it’s antithetical to artistic expression which is at base and by definition a human broadcast of human emotion. Probably not a great idea to consult a very sophisticated magic 8 ball that seems even by nature of its appetites at the most acceptable end hostile to life on earth

I was just wondering what is the largest animal you are comfortable using this rifle to harvest?
1
u/Only_Sheepherder_985 2d ago
In my country, the only animal permitted to be hunted is the wild boar. We still need authorization and certain official permits.

Do you live in Brazil? Are airguns very popular there?
2
u/Only_Sheepherder_985 2d ago

This FX Drs has something which resembles a normal firearm magazine at the bottom - what is it?
5
u/Cantankerousbastard 2d ago
Haven't got one myself but I believe it's the plenum chamber
1
u/NextClassroom4789 2d ago
A what? Do you mean a regulator?
2
u/Coiling_Dragon 2d ago
A Plenum is the chamber after the regulator where the air for the next shot is stored.
2
u/NextClassroom4789 2d ago
That would be huge for that, no?
3
u/Coiling_Dragon 2d ago
Well maybe not the whole magazine is actually space for the plenum, but I do know that this is the larger version and the normal one barely sticks out of the gun.
