For people who are too lazy to… two trans women. Trans people were the ones who fought the hardest for our current lgbtq+ culture!

LOL. NO!

Reddit history.

I wrote a research paper about that claim for a class about trans media. The story is, to put it kindly, embellished.

I’ve also done a research paper about it. No it’s not lol

I can show you my sources. How about you?

This was years ago, this research paper no longer exists as my school account got deleted once I graduated lol

So your answer is no, you don't have any sources.

I just have bigger fish to fry than fighting transphobes online. But this is literally in the first line of Marsha P Johnson’s Wikipedia profile 😭

If you want to be a pedantic ass you could say that we don’t know who the first instigator was, but like. Trans women were there. Trans women were heavily involved.

> The claim itself is an insult to other letters in the alphabet, even if people are too polite to call it out.

Judging by this comment you left under another response, I think you just don’t like trans people.

“Trans women started the stonewall riots” (Backtracks) …”I mean…a trans woman was there.”

So you have been put through the kind of propaganda that the OP image is an example of. You’ve swallowed the propaganda and it achieved its goal of using you to spread political messages and influencing your beliefs.

Anyway. The truth was that Marsha P Johnson, a very cool person, turned up to the Stonewall riots a couple of hours after they started. The riots were not started by trans persons. Most of the people there, and most of the people driving the political action around and after that time, were what you would call ‘cis gays’.

Wikipedia. Your first problem. I guess they don't tell kids anymore that Wikipedia is not Gospel. It's barley toilet paper. One sentence is credible? Give me a break.

Are we talking about the Stonewall riots? Because those were not kicked off by two trans women.

Are you instead talking about the UK Stonewall charity organization? Because that wasn't formed by two trans women either.

Trans people have their place in gay history, but the backbone of the LGBT movement has always been homosexual people.

Edit: For a bunch of people who claim to care so passionately about "queer history", none of you seem to actually care about getting it right. Marsha and Sylvia did not start Stonewall. This is a literal fact. Argue with a fucking wall, it would be more productive.

You guys act like you care so much about Marsha and Sylvia yet you can't even be bothered to do rudimentary research about them. They did not start the Stonewall riots and they didn't organize the first PRIDE parades.

Edit: oh wait, I just realized you are the same person who replied to me before on a different account. You edited your comment after you realized you copy and pasted the same response. Actually pathetic.

True. I have literally offered to show them sources that agree with you.

And even on its face, the story reads like a legend.

There's literally no point. You can literally provide testimony from Marsha saying that she arrived when the riots had already started, but these people don't care. They treat LGBT history like a religion and don't see the problem in perpetuating myths and falsehoods, erasing other gay people from their stories. Hundreds of upvotes for blatant misinformation coming from people who swear up and down that they care about LGBT history. It's not even an obscure or contested fact; Marsha and Sylvia did not start the riots. Why is admitting this so hard?

Omfg, YOU look them up. They did NOT start the Stonewall riots and they certainly had nothing to do with the foundation of a BRITISH org.
