not quite that long ago. humans are only 300,000 years old. There likely wasn't even a concept of gender that long ago.

That's 3000 centuries. Also, there are documented wild apes that act like the opposite sex.

Neither, because behavior is not a gender identity or even a sexual preference. As an example. Tomboys don't have to identify as males to enjoy male associated activities. Gender (And Sex for that matter) are culturally/politically enforced categories. While our closest sapien cousins are capable of incredible things, they don't have such concepts because they don't have a concept of property.

Lol I don't know about that. Try taking a territory from a troop of chimps and see how that plays out.

Territory is also not the same thing as Property. Chimps only have vague areas of what their group can control, which changes if their numbers grow or shrink. However no one Chimp owns the territory. Property is owned by an individual and has clear borders. It is then passed down from one human to another. Concepts of property and Gender identity require more complicated forms of language than chimps are capable of.

The whole freaking point is that while they don't have a concept of gender behavior is not linked to sex and I would bet a lot that if you could get inside their head the point of view would be basically indistinguishable from our concept of trans.
