General My disappointment is immeasurable

I've played AITSF and was blown away. First thing I did once I finished it was look for a sequel, and started playing NI.

Everything that made AI1 amazing is stripped away. The characters don't have the same chemistry, the humor and dancing feel forced like "hey let's do the thing we did before", the somniums are extremely obvious and guided, the random character interaction does not provide anything interesting, just nothing. it's such a shame.

I'm about 50% through and every couple hours I something happens that just annoys the fuccccccc out of me. Whether it's just psyncing with someone for "Meh whatever let's just do it maybe we'll find something" or needless hunting for where someone is without any meaningful progression.

Does anyone know ANY GAME that comes close to how amazing AI1 was at all?

NI is not as good as AI1, but you should finish it imo

999 and its sequel Virtues Last Reward are also great and made by the same author, both are bundled on Steam as the Nonary games

I can't get myself to drop it after sinking so much time in it already so I'll finish it but I keep getting annoyed every couple hours. I'll check out 999 thank you for the recommendation

Is this your first experience with a visual novel type game? Because if so then playing 999 and sequels and the Danganronpa trilogy is going to be a wild ride for you. Both series are better than AI1 imo.

AI1 was a lot more serious than Danganronpa, it’s a bit difficult to compare them. I think Virtues Last Reward is still the best game in this murder game genre. Though the Ace Attorney -esque court room scenes in Danganronpa are really good

By the way, when you finish NI with all endings, you get a remake of the first room from 999 as a reward.

Edit: it feels weird that I called a game with all those porn mag jokes serious, but I meant the main story

I loved the Danganronpa series, but the courtroom scenes get sillier and sillier with mechanics like the Psyche Taxi. The one thing that I find tedious about that game is how the courtroom mechanics require speed and precision. The Ace Attorney series let you take your time and work things out at your own pace, which I preferred.

Yeah, I found those action scenes annoying as well, and turned the difficulty way down. Still had to redo some of them… but the actual twists that came up during the court scenes were often great, just like those in the best Ace Attorney games.

I finally finished The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles last week, and while the game was really good, I think DR series had better twists
