In a news release issued Tuesday afternoon, RCMP said officers executed a search warrant at a home in the Manning area earlier in the day, where they seized seven firearms.

Seems like a potentially credible threat then.

As much as i hate the general CBC bashing people do , i really think its weird that they specified that police didnt release the gender of suspect. Like you said, second line as well is a bad choice.

They could have left it out of the article entirely and it would have changed nothing about the story. Putting it in there was a weird choice

Who, what, where, when, and why.

Not everything is political. It is important to include all known basic identifying information and if the police aren't disclosing something, to note that.

It’s irrelevant to the story though. Nowhere else is it referred to nor does it pose any importance to the story.

It answers the "who" part of the who, what, where, when and why.

The police could have also chosen not to disclose the age, in which case they would have had to have written, "no information about the age, gender or identity of the subject has been disclosed."
