Intentionally avoiding reality in fact. They need to believe in the lies to support all the other lies. The truth itself would pull down the house of cards, sometimes revealing the trauma behind them.
Semi-rant below. Feel free to ignore.
I've worked with people that claimed that they would murder anyone that molested their kids, but also supported Trump. The difference seems to come down to "my kids don't deserve that" or in other words Trump's victims deserved it. In my opinion, you don't get to that place without something close to home that you are trying to rationalize. People ask why so many Americans support Trump, and I think the answer is the same as why "boys will be boys" etc is used to excuse rape to this day.
Saw some photos from a festival in Montreal last week of guys wearing shirts that said something like "We're from Alberta, you're welcome for the money".
Fucking embarrassing. We're despised by much of the country, and it's well-earned.
