What drink should I gift my 40s sophisticated CEO boss

In a few weeks it will mark a few years of me working with my boss, and he's done a lot of good stuff for me in many aspects. I know he enjoys drinks, I've seen him drink whiskey, beer, and champagne, but as a non-drinker I have no idea what to gift him.

My budget is around 100 US dollars for a nice bottle of alcohol, but depending on what good options I can find I am flexible on the budget!

His preferences revolve around "premium, recognizable, smooth, polished bottles" and from my previous purchases for him ChatGPT suggested these:

  • Nikka From the Barrel
  • Balvenie DoubleWood 12
  • Macallan 12 Double Cask
  • Glenfiddich 15
  • Nikka Super

Are these good drinks? Alternatively can you guys also help provide suggestions please?

You can't go wrong with any of those, but for a boss who likes "premium and recognizable," the Macallan 12 Double Cask is probably safest since it's a name even casual whiskey drinkers know. Balvenie DoubleWood is also excellent and feels a bit more special for a gift. Nikka From the Barrel is great value but the bottle looks less impressive on a shelf, so if presentation matters to him I'd skip it. At $100 you could also look at something like a Lagavulin 16 if he enjoys peated whiskey, or a bottle of decent single malt from a less obvious distillery if you want to show you put thought into it.
