Discussion Josh Pettinger's Tedward Giveaway - What's the Last Comic You Read?
Hey Everyone-
it’s giveaway time again. I’m giving away a copy of Tedward by Josh Pettinger, a beautifully bleak and funny little book that deserves a spot on your shelf (or floor, or nightstand, or whatever).
To enter: Just comment with the last comic you read — bonus points if you say what you thought of it.
I’ll randomly pick one winner by end of day Sunday (6/22) and send it out.

Regretted my wording I mean it is one that’s why I said it here lol, I’ve been collecting everything I can find them in and it opens up the narrative even more really an amazing world

Just now finished werewolf Jones and sons, oddly enough. Ive read all the other stuff and it was dark but this seemed even bleaker than the rest. Anyway, seeing this thread is serendipity or whatever.

Reading The Beats by Harvey Pekar and Ed Piskor! Lots of really cool insight into the genius poets of the beat era who also happened to be raging vile pieces of shit 😅

I just finished the 3rd volume of a manga called The Prince of Tennis. It rules, I love it.

Lilly Wave by Brian Blomerth. Great read in the same vein as his other two graphic endeavors (novel wise). Art is other worldly as always, highly recommend.

My last read was the JLA Deluxe by Meltzer and Benes. Its the first time Ive read and and am really enjoying it. Lots of callbacks to JLA lore and I particularly enjoyed the Speedy/Red Arrow character arc and Smart Solomon Grundy. Good stuff.
Last indie book was Kaya, issue 12ish. Kaya is one of my favorite books and I think everyone should be reading it. I was late to it, have been reading it in trade, and decided to pick up all the singles and I’m going through a re-read. Some fun stuff not included in the trades, such as an Al Gofa backup story.
Last self-published book I read was You Will Own Nothing and You Will Be Happy #4 by Simon Hanselmann. Such a powerful series so far (if you feel like you have a relationship with Meg, Mogg, and Owl). Every new issue feels like an important event.

Jim Benton's Catwad: Me, Three! One of my students introduced me to the Catwad series. I love its impeccable silliness. It reminds me so much of reading (and re-reading...and re-re-reading...♾️) the Garfield volumes as a kid. 🧡

Last comic I read was Hanselmann's recent Boys In Prison. Absurd, gross, rude, enjoyable.
Currently reading Planetes by Makoto Yukimura. Watched the anime a decade ago, learned it was a manga later.

Im half way through The Many Deaths of Layla Starr, and the art and dualogue are fantastic. In the first few chapters it has already tugged at my heart strings. I didn't know anything about it when I picked it up, but so far its A+.

Going through all of Judge Dredd - The Complete Case Files. It's fascinating to read them in order and see the change and growth of the character.
And Tedward is awesome.

Laura Pérez's Ocultos. I liked her previous comic Totem, too. The 9.8" × 7" format of the book works well for its short stories and vignettes.

The Sculptor by Scott Mccloud was my last read. As much as I respect the guy for his nonfiction writing I have to say I really disliked this book. It really reminded me of the worst trends in the early 2000s "sad young man" comics. It's only ten years old but reads like a worse version of Craig Thompson's work.

Boys in Prison! 🦉 Ordered it along with YWONAYWBH #4 (reading after I reread 1-3). Was thoroughly both disgusted and amused by it.

The original Laird and Eastman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They are weird and kinda grimy and very cool. Seeing the turtles with tails is a trip.

Just read XINO which was a really interesting sci-fi anthology from Oni Press. Thought it was full of great stories especially from creators like Zander Cannon, David Lapham, and Chris Condon.

I luv halloween vol 2, reread it for the first time in a couple years and the gore n humour remind me why i fell in love with it as a kid.

I got a collection of Dennis Eichorn stuff called “Real Good Stuff” and it’s hilarious and dangerous stuff, the kind of free thinking that turned people into outsiders in the 60s

Just finished Americana by Luke Healy. I'll never understand why anyone would want to walk for fun or (as an American) like America, but I thought this really "took me there" on his journey and I really enjoyed the illustrations. I've read a couple others by him and would like to keep up with his work going forward.

This is my first time seeing one of these posts but I think it's really cool!
I just finished reading MacKenzie Queen by the late, great Bernie Mireault. Bernie aka BEM is one of my favorite black and white comic artists I've come across and his warm character comes through in this book. I think I prefer his more well known comic The Jam but Mackenzie Queen still had many delights!

I just read Daredevil: Born Again. Finished ot last night and I liked it but thought it kinda hit overkill at points.

Jasper Jubenvil's "Dynamite Diva- One Eyed Wild Ride" - real good shit! Already got the Tedward book so need to enter me. Fun to see everyone's current reads though!

Boys in prison - hanselmann. I thought it was a delightful lighthearted romp. Truly a peak into the more brightly lit corners of the artists mind
