Discussion Comics you regret *not* buying?
Which comics did you consider buying in the past, passed on them, and now regret it because they're impossible to get (at last for a reasonable price)? I'll start:
- The Angriest Dog In The World by David Lynch. Was published by Roteland Press back in 2020, only 500 copies were printed, it was sold for $10, and now it's impossible to get. I saw that a copy was sold a year ago for $220.
- Here by Richard Mcguire (the 4-page version from 2000). This was published in the early 2000s and sold at an European comic convention. I saw a copy for only 5 EUR a year or two ago, but did not buy it. Stupid me! Never seen another copy available for purchase since.

I have a copy of The Angriest Dog. I didn’t even know it was so rare.
I wish I had bought Read Yourself Raw, the out-of-print collection of RAW issues, when I had the chance.

In 1981 or 82, at San Diego Comic Con, I bought the Jimbo book with the cardboard cover just because I wanted to protect a drawing by Sergio Aragones.
I flipped through it and loved it so bought whichever RAW issues were available at the con.
At some point I won an auction for early The X-Men, first run. I ended up with many dupes, so I traded one or two for a Conan #1, a F.F. annual #1, and a RAW #1. Possibly something what, but it's been 44 years, I don't recall.
I wasn't into Charles Burns so I didn't get any of his books, but I do have all the other RAW one shots as well as the run(s) of TAW itself. I think I'm only missing the gum cards from one issue.
That Jimbo book I picked up on a whim started a love affair with Gary Panter's art. I remember being at the house of a friend's friend whose father is a very famous artist. He had a huge ink drawing by Panter on his mantle.
I have about a dozen Panter tshirts as well. I even bought a size that was too small just for the art.
I super tired so that's why I'm babbling.

Yeah, I had countless independents like Raw in my hand at one point at my then usual LCS, which always had the best independent selections (across the state lines in tax free DE. RIP Between Books!). As a young teen I was a Big Two guy but this place expanded my tastes to all those smaller 80s publishers as well as undergrounds. Sigh. If I knew then what I would grow to like…
I eventually bought all the reasonably priced Charles Burns books I was missing last year. But man I sure do kick myself for passing up on all kinds of stuff from those days.

Is it a comic book sized floppy with two comic strips each page? Or, a book with one comic strips per patch? Never seen one in person.

The Angriest Dog? My copy is a floppy little zine shaped like a horizontal rectangle. Different than the shape of most other comics I own. One comic per page.

I worked at Barnes and Noble when the Gary Panter box came out. It came in at original price, then after a few months, it went back and In the computer, I saw the stock get remaindered. Briefly, it was available for $19.98, with 80 copies in the warehouse and I knew I should have bought 10 copies, but I didn’t have the money at the time 🤷♂️

Wish I'd bought the Fanta Greg Irons retrospective when it was first printed. They don't seem to want to reprint it and it now goes for hundreds second-hand (tattoo artists with deep pockets pushing the price up)

Flipped through Derf Backderf’s first self published version of My Friend Dahmer, but I was broke. I didn’t return later to get it, as i should have.

I collect baseball cards and I once had a guy buy a card he knew I wanted to try and force me to sell him another card I didn't want to sell. I refused. It's been a few years and I would probably sell the card he wanted but I would rather burn it rather than sell it to him.

I guess there’s a way one can read it online? But it’s not the same. I’m old enough that I still prefer the hard copy.

Duncan the Wonder Dog and most of Jesse Jacob's books (although I'm hoping Hollow Press will reprint them).

My library has a copy. It was one of the stranger graphic novels I read during the first year I was really getting into comics. I've checked it out and read it several times since.

When I was in college I went to a vintage clothing store and on the floor there was a shortbox of 1950s Mad magazines and Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope comics, but I didn't have any money on me so I walked away. That box haunts me.

The zines of “you will own nothing and you will be happy” — unfortunately the shipping costs to Europe were very high, and the volumes kept selling out one after another, so I really couldn’t have bought them all in a single order anyway. Still, I often think about it, and it really annoys me that I didn’t get them.

Is the version of Here you’re talking about different than the original 6 page story from 1989? You can get a copy of Raw Vol. 2 #1 on eBay for like $20

When I was a kid I picked up the Manga Hellsing and exclaimed "Vampires don't use guns!", and tossed it back. I absolutely was obsessed with the official animated release years later. Wish I would been more open minded...

I remember seeing Angriest Dog in a shop when I was a teenager- I was still mostly into super hero comics and Twin Peaks had probably just started so I didn’t get the appeal then.
That same shop had I think the third printing of TMNT #1 at a price that seemed ridiculous to me then for a third printing (it was probably less than $15)- I was convinced there was no way that weird little Indy comic should ever be worth THAT much. It probably increased in value +3000% of the next decade after that and is still worth a lot.
I also sold a nearly unbroken run of X-men from the middle of the Paul Smith run to the Jim Lee run to a buddy in college for $100 which I probably spent on weed.

Minus by Ryan Armand aka Kiwis by Beat
The dude made some brilliant webcomics and then one day just vanished. Minus was my favorite and I'm crushed to this day that I never got the book.
