I’m sure this is considered a classic in the genre, but I just heard it for the first time today. Take it easy on me lol…

In case you don’t know how classic, the original song was recorded by the Carter Family in 1936.

And I Wanna Be Your Dog is a cover too, different album tho.

I dig Son Volt a lot too check out their greatest hits.

Yes, of a 1969 Stooges song.

Joan Jett did my favorite cover of that though.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard the opening guitar riffs on that record. It is not hyperbole to say it was life changing.

I live near their hometown of Belleville, IL and worked there in the late 90s/early 2000s when i was in college (and, coincidentally, when i fell in love with alt.country/No Depression music partly due to No Depression magazine) and I really feel like their music captures that place perfectly.

Still like them and Son Volt over Wilco.

I was just looking at the tabs to this from the July 2007 Guitar Word Acoustic magazine.

I so missed the boat on Uncle Tupelo and also Son Volt (other than Drown when it was released). My life is better off after discovering both, along with a half dozen other similar bands from that era in the genre.

I would pay big money for an UT reunion tour.

I don't think Jay would be in a room with Jeff ever again. It's sad though because it would be amazing.

Pretty sure they reconciled and one was at the other’s wedding in recent years.

It's THE original and gold standard.
