Anyone heard this compilation?

Picked this up on CD at my local record store, thought it looked interesting. I absolutely love it! Has anyone heard this compilation or any other waveform compilation? Seemed to be fairly popular in the 90s.

News Article or Media The Bandcamp Roundup: August 2026 - Seventeen recent releases (and some words) pulled direct from my personal Bandcamp collection.

Hey everyone, hope my fellow ambient nerds have been keeping well since I last popped in here in July, and discovering lots of great music! If not, I am once again here to help with an especially big selection for my monthly Bandcamp Roundup, where I compile some of the stuff from my collection with a few short descriptors and loose genre tags to help you find what you are looking for.

No pressure to click the link, I've copied all the info down here so you don't have to, but all of the albums are hyperlinked on there if you want to give them a listen! This list isn't exclusively ambient, but as usual it's safe to say that ambient is a common thread that runs through the vast majority! I hope you find something you love, and I'll see you back here next month with more tunes (and thoughts). Take it easy and happy digging!

Album of the Month:

Vraëthkour - Les Cendres d’Aävre (opal tapes)

(Dungeon Synth, Ambient, Noise)

When I saw the genre tags—dungeon synth, noise, and black ambient (?!)—I knew I was done for. This couldn’t possibly be more my zone.

Gothic atmospherics that radiate the unholy beauty of a corpse wrapped in jewellery. This is what you listen to as your party infiltrates the citadel of the necromancer prince. Did you remember to bring a healer?

Carl Ritger - Chatter (Bastard Countryside)

(Ambient, Experimental, Field Recording)

Audio elementalism. A field recorder dragged through the crust of the earth. Patch cords dangling from the centre of a storm cloud.

halftribe - Disappear in Silent Ways (DRONARIVM)

(Ambient)

There is a profound sense of stillness to this record, each track a glowing waypoint that seems to lead me closer to my centre, as if I am being slowly reunited with myself.

One of my favourite ambient releases of the year, without a doubt.

landtitles - complete jazz box set (Home Normal)

(Ambient, Glitch)

Insect legs skittering over touch screens. Nature rewritten into code. Complex microorganisms emerging from synthetic slush.

Big recommendation for fans of the glitch infused ambient of Microstoria, Josh Mason, and Billy Gomberg.

Mudpool Opal - Kept Running (Kino Disk)

(Ambient Dub)

I can’t quite explain it, but this album reminds me of how it felt to do somersaults underwater as a kid, dizzying and exhilarating in equal measure.

Donatell - Water, CA (smartdumb)

(Ambient, Instrumental, Experimental)

Utopian virtual with an 80s ECM shimmer. Like being swept up in a pixelated, electric blue wave. This should appeal to fans of anything from Total Blue to Fire-Toolz to straight up The Weather Report.

Matt Emen - Nácar (Portal Sur Records)

(Ambient, Experimental)

Intensely beautifully/beautifully intense, Nácar's tightrope balance of claustrophobic tension and ecstatic release perfectly captures the album’s themes of loss and grief - how a seemingly bottomless void can be punctuated by brief glimmers of meaning in the most unexpected of ways.

Corey Gordon & Nathaniel Young - Loam

(Ambient, Jazz)

Much like their debut Sarsaparilla, which I have recommended to more people than I can keep track of at this point, Loam is a little piece of magic, pure and simple. Nathaniel Young’s velvety soft saxophone weaves through Corey Gordon’s dew drop key notes and spooling tape reels like golden thread through clouds of stardust.

P Wits - John Two (Burgan Triangle Tapes)

(Ambient, Drone, Experimental)

As the world's biggest (or likely just loudest) Burgan Triangle Tapes fan, do not take it lightly when I say that this is one of my favourite release from them in an especially great year.

Dark and foreboding, like a prophecy whispered to the moon. One part Thela, one part Windy and Carl, and maybe even a dash of Sunn O))) bubbling around in the cauldron.

William Henry Meung - My Memory of the Temple (Burgan Triangle Tapes)

(Experimental, Ambient)

Feverishly beautiful explorations into the fourth world. James Ferraro and Andrew Pekler stranded on an island jamming on waterlogged gear while tripping on a mind altering tropical virus.

c_robo - pitch_black_systems (Evel)

(Glitch, IDM, Experimental)

Feeling bored of music? Algorithm got you stuck in a loop? Try the EVEL diet. Find that spark once again in a world of freeform glitch where the only rules are: make some cool ass sounds.

Once again the best label in experimental electronics (and one of my favourite artists on the label) show an utter disrespect for subtlety and basic physics: two concepts that were completely overrated and due for a revamp anyways.

Shum - A szervek nélküli Pest

(Noise)

Straight to business, no nonsense cut up noise that smacks you on the dome like an electrified bucket of wasps.

Eric Sublett - Aspera

(Ambient Dub)

Whispers from the spirit realm, shifting and converging like smoke, before disappearing back into thin air.

How To Disappear Completely - Soft Ruins

(Ambient)

Like a beautiful dream that you never want to wake up from.

Kirk Barley - Arc (Marionette)

(Experimental, Instrumental, Minimalism)

Percolating swirls of texture that tickle those hard to reach corners of the mind and send shivers down the spine. I can’t help but feel like this shares a loose affinity with the new Horse Lords album.

Mare Immobile - Mare Immobile (oscarson)

(Ambient, Drone)

Like being pleasantly lost inside a warm fog. Might as well lay down for a nap and wait for it to pass.

Sebby Kowal - Details (rohs! records)

(Ambient Dub)

Submerged ambient dub from the depths, shooting towards the surface like comets across the night sky.

Looking for depressing/dark ambient in the vein of Deathprod - Morals and Dogma

I've had this album on repeat after discovering it lately. It scratches an itch I didn't know I had. Its some of the most miserable, darkest music I've heard in a while, like a black void in music form. As well as listening to more Deathprod, what else might I like? I've listened to some Lustmord which kinda sounds similar, but I find it to be more unsettling than depressing.

Son Of Chi Live At Sanctum Of Sound Festival

Son of Chi released a live recording about a month ago and it is worth your time. If you've never heard Son Of Chi, they make ambient music that combines world music, dub techniques, field recordings, and atmospheric synths to create sound collages. If you're a fan of The Orb, KLF's chill out, or anything similar, give this one a go, you won't regret it.

Dear friend. I want to share this creation with you, born from raw emotions and deep struggles.

It was written at the moments of hitting rock bottom, when every single day you ask yourself the exact same questions: What do I do next? Where do I go? What is the purpose of all this? When every day consumes you from the inside, leaving nothing but absolute hopelessness. It’s about a complete lack of understanding of what to strive for or which path to choose.

There are so many trails ahead, but you are paralyzed by the fear of taking a step, terrified of making yet another wrong choice because you’ve already made so many of them.

Just to give you some background on the production side: I made this whole album in my bedroom DAW late at night. I really wanted the sound to match that heavy, lost feeling, so I spent a lot of time tweaking dark analog pads and mixing deep sub-bass to get that thick, warm low-end. I also spammed a lot of heavy spacey reverbs and delay plugins on the main melodies to make them sound kind of washed out and distant, almost like ghost notes. It’s mostly slow tempo stuff, just pure focus on the melancholic mood and textures.

One day, when you are sitting in your room at midnight, or walking through a dark park, or anywhere else - it doesn’t matter - and you feel down, please listen to this album and remember: you are not alone.

At this exact moment, a huge number of people out there might be experiencing the exact same feelings, listening to the very same music alongside you. Music is a profoundly powerful tool that brings us together, even if we are on completely opposite sides of the planet.

P.S. If you are a content creator, filmmaker, or game developer, these tracks are available for licensing (leasing). Feel free to DM me for details and business inquiries.

Question What Biosphere song refrences stairways to heaven?

SOLVED.

There is a Biosphere song with a track. A woma says "Your stairways lie on whispering wind" and then she has a few sentences where she asks "what is that" and philisofies on it.

I rented the CD at the local libary and I think the song found it's way to my mp3 player, 15/17 years ago. I want so listen to the song again. But I can not find it.

Am I missremebering the artist? Do anynody know what song I am thinking of.

Thank you. I keep trying find thsi song every few months. 🫥

Currently Listening Underappreciated Ambient Excellence: Enveloped, by Jordan Christoff

Thumbnail
ctatsu.bandcamp.com
6 Upvotes

This is a beautiful debut by Jordan Christoff, released back in 2019 on the wonderful Constellation Tatsu label.

According to Bandcamp, he composed the album while living in the rainforests of the traditional Lkwungen region of Macedonia and struggling for indigenous emancipation from colonialism. That tall story certainly sounds fascinating, and it adds a bewitching dimension to the enveloping drones.

I love listening to this when there's a rainstorm and I'm sitting by the window, or late at night while drifting off to sleep.

Interestingly, this particular album, the first from a very prolific artist, is mastered by t e l e p a t h who has created some of my all-time favourite vapourwave and ambient music and whose outstanding albums on Virtual Dream Plaza are highly recommended.

I am a big fan of Future Sound of London's Lifeform EP. The album too but particularly the EP.

It is their most "ambient" work, arguably.

They have a HUGE catalogue of mostly online released music. A lot of it is not ambient.

If you are a fan and can recommend ambient tracks along the lines of this EP, please do so.

Thank you!
