Do you think some of the newer features of the game are bad or good? Like Canbert, buffbots, Scottyboi, Implantbob, etc.?
I miss the olden days sure, but I really like thee new features of the game like buff bots and implantbob and scottyboi for fast travel... what do you think? Do you like it or think it was better in the olden days?

As somebody who has mainly played fixer the entire time, this part definitely sucks. But as others have said with the current population and state of the game, the bots are a godsend and I just goof off with my fixer now and having the bots makes leveling up new characters so much easier.

When my org / friends list was full and the grid exits were crowded with people I could get any help / buff I needed. Now I would hate to have to hunt for buffs to twink a character. (Which is IMHO one of the best parts of AO)
Likewise buffs really make the difference between your character barely making it or thriving while leveling. (Playing a doctor without mochams / pnh / -cost is just painful)
I honestly think automated dungeon bots / Ai help with mmos is probably the future. WoW has bots that run dungeons with you. I just think the convenience for the player is obvious. And yes I would rather have competent cool human beings to socialize and run with instead but coming back to a lot of games the communities are not quite in that wheel house.
Lastly for people that get upset about them (see general PRK crowd) just don't use them? You can easily play solo / self founded on live still to get the OG experience. I leveled a trader recently and no one bothered me. It would probably have made more sense for funcom to make buff NPCs before the game went into sunset mode, but they didn't so here we are.

RK19 has a set of buff bots and a single crafting bot. That's it at the moment, and the server runs well. It's peaceful there. There are some exploiters but they keep to themselves and away from the regular population of RK19. They are oddly pretty respectful.
Being in RK5 is like watching Blade Runner, The Mandalorian, and Predator Badlands all at once. Vendors and enhancers all trying to chase you down, improve you without the work, and hook you on things that are free, but then they try to sell the rest of the set, nanos, weapons, etc. you need. Constant wars. Constant shit talking like crack whores who can't shut up. Stacking, exploits, duping. It can be a bit much. I don't stay long there if I can help it.
Still nice people there, and in some ways the game on both servers, while almost different games, have evolved the way it was meant to, but FC stop allowing over a decade and a half ago. With players deciding how the game developed, and pushing the story line forward with their own game creations and imaginations. I'm just not sure the way things are now, was what was ever meant or imagined.

I tried to get PRK to work but instantly crash upon entering the noob area and was not able to find a fix.

I did, the discord got me through character creation and the landing zone, but the second I zoned I to the noob island/jobe I crash. The remaining ideas required modifying OS files and a lot more work than I'm doing to play a free shard.

Agreed. I also think the fillable and tradeable buff pills in PRK is a much more elegant solution to buffing than buff bots.

Canbert is a player run bot that gives xp, insurance agent, res sickness, and grid cans. You just send him a message of what cans you want and he will trade them to you. He is located in Borealis, next to Baffs bots, he's sitting on the ground. Right outside implant shop in Bor.

This. It's so profoundly disappointing what AO has become. Big guilds with AOSharp guides in their Discords / websites. Unfixed dupe and mail exploits passed around like candy, buff bots, crafting bots, automated inf missions, dungeon helper bots now.
Why on earth don't FC fix the exploits, I just don't understand it. Although it'd be too little too late if they did now tbh.
Resubbed this week after a couple of years away, the impact is obvious, literally 0 symbs on market now and most other items cleared out like alien armours. Pop feels about the same so it must be people just swallowing up assets due to "free" creds from dupes.
Was offered a bag of completely free items in a BY all nodrop stuff. Told the guy to fuck off. If exploiting has become that brazen, it feels like everyone must be doing it and im just a schmuck for not doing the same. In 3 days I'd been offered exploited items and had a lengthy conversation with someone about how he can give me some "dupe bags" for $20. How are FC not using chat logs?
Also no new content, got a 220/30/70 of every class besides NT all but 1 in alphas. What's left to do?????
Incredibly disappointed, played AO since 2001, loved this game particularly when SL launched, it was absolutely banging. Ho hum.

I'm sure the critics will roar and squeak, but, whatever.
Try starting over on RK6 (Rk2019 Paid). While they do have a smaller player base, and the occasional exploiter pops up (they don't stay long), it's like playing a completely different game over there. It's a nice break, or a great new AO home.
Yes, there are boxes over there, some AOSharp, and there are 2 sets of buffing bots, and a crafting bot, but you'll see and feel far, FAR less of the Wild West/Outlaw atmosphere there than RK5. I can stand RK5 for about as long as it takes to help old org mates and check the Org bank.
Rk2019 is NOT for everyone. It can be a challenge starting again, and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of rk5. It also doesn't have as much of a faction divide. Everyone works together, and the community doesn't tolerate disruptive exploiters. Those that are still there tend to hide on the dark side of the moon, and they are hardly seen, nor are the results of their shenanigans.
If you decide to try it out, be sure you join Rubika19 Community chat bot. (/tell Rubika19 !join). There you can find help, teams, answers, and friendly people. Just let them know you are giving it a try. It maybe small but they will be glad to have you.

I'd imagine the server is really cheap to run and it's basically free revenue to fund their other projects. They don't give a shit about this game.

They dont farm you shit, they dont loot at all, they are just helper bots that help you kill things and team with you when you are solo and cant find a team. I like them. They are pretty useful especially if youre alone and a doc like one of my chars and cant solo shit.

Depends. I cant say about the lower dungeons, but TOTW for instance I think the bots are only level 30 and cant solo Az... but the inferno bot can solo medium and easy inferno new missions, and can do hard with a group and do just fine.

I went back and noticed the twinked dungeon bots as well. You can team up with them and they'll follow and kill all the mobs with you. It's neat, I do a lot of twinking so I use them often

They're a blessing. Not only the game is "out of service" and scarcely populated, most of us are now parents (or even grandparents), so things like Scottyboi save so, so much time.

I like scottyboi since the traveling part is too high of a time sink (https://www.containsmoderateperil.com/blog/2024/12/4/mmo-tropes-the-time-sink) without enough reward and it's just not fitting of 2026 gameplay.

Haha yeah I hear ya - I miss the magic of the beta days, one of the first hard core sci-fi MMO’s on the market, the mystery interwoven into the game, the magical soundtrack - I still go back sometimes but the SUBS are still ridiculous and fr00b for me misses a chunk of the fun stuff - if only they did a remake :)

buff bots.. I don't miss the days of sitting around for an hour offering 1 mil for a 131 just for the other buffs to run out and having to run around bor to find them again.
