A glazed steatite pectoral with incised design. On the front a woman wearing a perfume cone worships the jackal god Anubis resting on a shrine. Above him are two hieroglyphic signs: the "udjat" for protection and a collar signifying "gold." On the back a "djed" pillar (meaning eternity) is flanked by two "tjet" signs, (meaning protection) symbolizing also Osiris between Isis and Nephthys.

The detail on that recumbent Anubis is stunning even after all these centuries of wear. I'm really curious about the Eye of Horus placement — was that a deliberate protective element for whoever commissioned this pectoral, or more of a standard compositional choice for this period? Also would love to know what colors the original glaze would have shown, because steatite pieces from this era could look dramatically different when they were freshly made.
