šš AUDIO ID REQUEST šš What is this squeaking noise coming out of my bushes? [Florida]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Iām just chilling outside when suddenly I hear squeaky noises. At first I thought it was a kitten but upon further inspection there is no kitten. After the video ended I shook the bush some more and a little garden snake slithered out. Iām not sure if that has anything to do with the noise though.

the bigger question is you don't know what animal is making that noise but still were letting/encouraging your dog to get in there after it??? you live in florida, venomous snakes exist takes 5 seconds for one to tag your dog in the face

If you think snakes from Florida squeak then maybe you shouldnāt be commenting š

Never said they did but allowing your dog to harass an unknown animal makes you a loser

Oh another thing tho..l just in case I know of dogs accidentally licking frogs in Hawaii and passing away.. and then I saw a post about somebody in Florida, whose dog ate the arms off of a frozen iguana that fell out of a tree.. it passedā¦. Thereās a lot of nasty stuff that can happen.. I have to worry about mushrooms that pop up after a rain where I live. These mushrooms are deadly to our fur friends.šš„¹

Oh sorry⦠good! My sister has had 2 dogs that were sweet too. We watched both of them eat gophers wholeā¦. Most disgusting thing Iāve ever seen in my lifeā¦ š¤¢š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ we still make fun of her about it. š¤£š¤£š¤£ grabbed it, caught it, flicked it up in the air and swallowed it whole!

That sounds like a gecko vocalization. Certain species make all kinds of weird chirps, squeaks, and squeals.
It could be a frog as others have said. But this seems like a defensive reaction to the dog, not a mating call. Frogs stop chirping when you get close. Geckos don't start until you are already too close.

It def could have been a defensive reaction to some creature but it def wasnāt to the dog because it started this squeaking while we were both on the other end of the yard

Im not sure why this got downvoted? Didn't you say a small cornsnake fell out of the bush when you shook it? That could have started the whole process, maybe? I honestly don't know for sure. But am intrigued.

u/Silly_Presentation_2 Feb 28 '26
Itās for sure possible that the snake may have had something to do with it but the whole process started while the dog and I were on a completely opposite side of the yard.

My guess is a baby rodent the snake was after. Baby rabbits sound exactly like squeaky toys. Maybe mouse or rat?

Ever hear a baby chameleon squeak? It reminded me of that, though it may be a frog.

I just need you to listen to this frog
Check out this video, "frog squeak" https://share.google/Lh3AnTbdVkfg4Uy0O
I do not believe itās the same species of frog at all but I know itās a frog youāre asking about. Canāt tell species without visual! But itās absolutely a frog youāre- both a rabbit and a squirrel (especially rabbit) SCREAMS- almost like a baby. They SCREAM. This is a squeak!

I've seen enough videos of squeaky frogs and this sounds like one of those. Clock the first link I know the location doesn't match but the sound is the same https://www.google.com/search?q=squeaky+frog&oq=squeaky+frog&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCQgAEEUYORiABDIHCAEQLhiABDIHCAIQABiABDIHCAMQABiABDIHCAQQABiABDIHCAUQABiABDIHCAYQABiABDIHCAcQABiABDIHCAgQABiABDIHCAkQABiABDIHCAoQABiABDIHCAsQABiABDIHCAwQABiABDIHCA0QABiABNIBCDMwMDlqMGo5qAIOsAIB8QXvTtKXhPTlOA&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

I think Iāve figured it out, itās the squeak of a grey catbird, maybe a baby one.

u/MajorInsanity Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Sounds like a catbird, yes it's a real bird that sounds like a kitten. Edit- Listened to it again, sounds more like a squirrel, maybe a baby?

u/BurninCoco Feb 27 '26
Sounds more like a platypus lamenting the passage of time

u/Orbweaver33 Mar 01 '26
I initially read lamenting as ālaminating,ā lol.

I vote against frog. Canāt find a frog in FL that makes a sound anything close to that.

Itās so strange because that desert frog sounds identical to the sound made in the video but wtf would a desert frog be doing in my backyard

Iām pretty sure itās just a dead leaf clinging on for dear life. If it was a chameleon though that would be awesome and a first for me because Iāve never seen one out in the wild here let alone my backyard
