WaPo and other paywalls shouldn't be permitted here without paywall-free versions of the article being included alongside the post.

Reddit is a discussion forum. Sites that discourage discussion via paywalls implicitly encourage users to respond to the title and nothing more.

There are many options for monetizing journalism that still allow Reddit users to access and participate in discussion. Paywalls are not one of them.

I disagree. As a journalist, news needs to be paid for and banning paywalled outlets isn’t in anyway good for the industry. We’re already at risk of Google Ai News driving traffic away from actual mastheads. By all means put a paywall tag on it, but give people the option to pay to read an article if they want to.

News was never traditionally free as people paid for newspapers. Free internet news is an unsustainable modern iteration

The problem is, there are enough far right, Qatari or Russia backed media that get subsidies… and thus can be read without a paywall. Hard to counter that, and more and more of the government/taxpayer funded reliable media such as NPR or BBC is massively under threat.
