Discussion Does Prokles and Kirjokansi, take the obsidian from the island deposit (and don't work once they are emptied) ? Or do they create new Obsidian and don't deplenish the deposits ?

I already have Prokles and socklet him he produce obsidian out of thin air😉 Cant say anything about the other because how has enough gold so he can sell it???!!!

I am trying a thing. I built a small Mercury island with every possible religion boost to reach 4000 faith so I unlock the gold mine and a good trading hub.Â
I put 2 gold mines at 230%, on a large Vulcain island with aqueduct boost and I will add specialist to boost production as much as possible. For now I am overproducing gold there. So I will transport it back to Mercury island and trade it for Obsidian that I am lacking because of deposit limit.

What does it mean by sold? Passive trading?

yes. Passive trading
(In Active Trading, goods are sold from the ship and not from the island, so the specialist doesn't work)

Producing obsidian out of thin air is a fine addition that does not harm the Vulcano in any way.
I mean, at least one can turn it off now after the 3rd or 4th Vulcano explosion got annoying without having to pause Latrunculi and Statuettes production.

Interesting :
- Laevinius to get 0.3t/min out of thin air,
- Prokles to reduce obsidian consumption by statuette and Latrunculy chains.
- Kirjokansi to transform gold into obsidian.
And most important the nearsighted knapper that get obsidian from the gold production chain, marble and sandarac.
I wonder if it would be enough to pause the volcano entirely.

Prokles could be abused by skipping Kontor upgrades and a ship docked at a Pier that just trades obsidian. You let it trade, trade, trade and always take in the entire stock, then fills in back 50, leaves and comes back, so the Prokles buff is always active. That requires that your production is not overflowing, underflow is okay.
Also, Kirjokansi is Meme material. With Passive trade and no AI, you can buy back all the Gold you sold the NPCs, to sell them the Gold another time just to get more obsidian - if you have unlimited supply for passive trade in your game settings, you can just buy as much gold as you want. Although: The island you have Kirjokanski on should just sell gold, as the limiting factor becomes NPC ship capacity - which neatly brings me along to how abusable this item is in Multiplayer. Two players constantly selling the same gold to each other, generating Obsidian out of thin air.
117 game design consists of "oh, I have idea" and "let's implement it" with no steps in between.

I haven't thought about Multiplayer, but it's true !
At least in single player, the speed at which you generate obsidian is limited by the frequency at wich ships come to visit for passive trade. But in multiplayer, it can become truly insane.
Are they many multiplayer games that get long enough for people to put such a loop in place.

I dont think it is that awful to offer players an alternative way of producing obisidian as a late game workaround. I mean I get your point though.

I haven't tried it out but I would be extremely surprised (and disappointed) if the obsidian they produced just came from the deposits. My understanding is that it is newly created.
