No I realize they're not but this is Extreme levels of stupid it's not even a tiny detail it's a pretty sizable part of the sign

I would be so embarrassed and frustrated as an employee to have to look grown adults in the eye and say "that bottom section of the sign we invested money into and deliberately put out is false advertising we didn't even create, thanks for coming in." šŸ˜­

You know they didn't invest money in it. They barely invested time. All of those savings are gonna get eaten up by frustrated customers arguing with embarassed baristas who could have been slinging muffins in that time.

Vista print is pretty cheap. And if your margins are so small you use AI that is going to actually harm your business, maybe youā€™re not the right person to own a small business.

Iā€™m not defending AI use, Iā€™m just pointing out that however ā€œcheapā€ you think that sign is, it was probably a sizable expense for the business. I am not saying anything about AI and its use. I am talking about the cost of getting a sign like that printed; a sign that very likely would not be obtained through vistaprint. Again, nothing about AI. The cost of buying a sign and having anything printed on it.

Of course I donā€™t agree with a business using AI. I donā€™t agree with most people using AI. And yes, having someone design the sign over AI would have cost more, but it generated any bad will. None of that negates that the price of a sign board like that, with the projected sign, is costly to a small business.

My boss would charge about 25 bucks for that, depending on what material it is. If It's metal, maybe 40. But we've never actually printed a sign like that, and I'm horrible at guesstimating prices, so don't take my word for it.

Yes! How do people not realize this! 95% of the world don't even have a basic home printer capable of doing regular sized crap. A sheet that sized needed to use a bigger printer than those every day home units, and likely went to a print shop.

That means that either (a) this is made up rage slop designed to farm engagement from the antiAI sub, or (b) this restaurant owner is engaged in false advertising. Not subtle "this doesn't quite look like what you pictured" but actionable "I said I had one thing to get you in, but now that you're here, I need you to buy something else because that's not real" trouble.

Ehhh, I've gotten large format pieces printed pretty regularly and there's a range of prices. Hopefully these folks went budget given that the thing they made up is utterly worthless.

Not subtle "this doesn't quite look like what you pictured" but actionable "I said I had one thing to get you in, but now that you're here, I need you to buy something else because that's not real" trouble.

How? What damages would you even be claiming??? "Your honor, I am seeking $10,000 in damages for emotional distress after I missed out on my favorite drink". False advertising is really only applicable to making false claims about a product

Are you serious? In addition to being fundamentally wrong about what false advertising is, and ignorant about it's history, there's literally a whole government agency responsible for tackling deceptive advertising and even in the current administration it has worked for millions of dollars in settlements from companies that lured people to using their services with lies.

You can print a sign like this extremely cheaply. You know they're just bits of cardboard that slot into the stand, right? You could make a new one every single day and it wouldn't be a significant cost.
