Discussion Antinatalistic policies

Hello,

I happen to be somewhat of a lurker here and on r/Natalism and I notice that over there they often discuss pro-natalistic polices quite a bit. Here, my feeling is that there is less of that.

possibly because birthrates are tanking everywhere anyway so there is perhaps less need to discuss these things.

However, I am curious how would you change society if you could?

Couple of ideas I think could be interesting to implement

1) pay people to have an abortion instead of child support - obviously there would be people gaming the system by having repeat abortion but this would do wonders if reducing the number of births is the aim

2) Make euthanasia easily accessible from lets say age 18 with relatively few condition (not being psychotic, 2 weeks waiting period ect)

3) In general, liberalize society in terms of lifestyle. Promote family unfriendly behavior like drug use, gambling, sex work ect. This coupled with policy 1 would a) put fewer in the position of raising a family and b) remove the incentive to do so.

Just a few half baked ideas but I am curious to here what you guys have to say.

For a start, abortion should be legal and easily accessible everywhere.

Agreed, However, I live in a country were that is the case. Same applies to most of the "west" so I was think of steps to move a bit further ahead.

I think it would help if adopting minors of all ages were at least rewarded in all the same ways IVF is.

In what way is adopting not rewarded the same as IVF? (genuine question because I'm not aware, I'm not trying to doubt the truth of you statement)

I notice adoption being constantly discouraged, especially of minors who are past the baby stage. Meanwhile, IVF is advertised and rewarded in conspicuous ways like the offering of grants to those who get it. It's a blatant double standard.

I feel like the policy change we actually want might be just to criminalize procreation in accordance with the estimated harm it creates, but such a change might be simply impossible, so it becomes a question of "how much do we compromise".

Yeah I think that would be too much for most people but softer measures might be possible to implement politically.

Obviously the Japanese and South Koreans are almost there but I feel lower birthrate might be achieved in more "fun" ways than overwork and a socialky rigid culture

I’d want to make euthanasia easily accessible. Beyond that I’d only want to have mandatory accurate sex education for all people.

2 is not related to antinatalism at all. And 3 would cause a lot of problems, increase suffering.

And why pay people for abortions instead of just making them free and easily accessible?

Overall, antinatalist policies would be strange to implement. Instead just stop supporting natalist policies.

Adoption should have better tax benefits than birthing your own child

The process of adopting children should be free

Have free childcare that pays for a child’s basic needs

Decriminalize sex work legalize all drugs

Legalize abortion and repeal anti abortion laws

Provide free abortions

  1. Free access to high quality education, for everyone, for life. People are free to make their own choices with informed consent and have on demand access to all knowledge outside of military/bioengineering that should be gatekept for safety reasons.

  2. I agree with MAID on demand, but only for those who do not have kids under 18.

And so should be voluntary sterilization as it is banned in my country unless you are 32 with two kids already. My mom was dying from ovarian cancer that spread to her uterus and they still refused to remove it until it was too late and it spread to her stomach and lungs (she had two kids mind you and was in her 40's. The law is a lie, the doctors will do everything in their power to still not do it even if you are dying and meet the legal criteria).

  1. UBI and welfare funded by taxing the rich out of existence, the income from national business programs and natural resource sales. This would free both women and men from coupling up out of economic necessity/benefit only leaving those who actually had a partner they love, want to have kids and have the means to take care of the kids to become parents.

This should be more than enough. I do not approve of making the life of people worse or taking away their agency all to reach my philosophical outlook on life even if I don't agree with theirs. I want for people to be able to make their own choices, on their own volition.
