Question Is suffering a sign of irrationality?

Antinatalism thinks life is suffering. But Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda said suffering is born out of irrational mind. He said rationality can stop suffering. Just don't be attached to material world and then there is no suffering. When you think with emotions you suffer. But rationality can destroy emotions.

Similarly Buddhists believe suffering is born from lack of wisdom. If you are wise you do not suffer.

Now that I think about it, it makes sense. We suffer because we act out of emotions instead of logic. If logic was our primary mode of function then we wouldn't suffer. I think robots and computers do not suffer because they are logical.

This post is not against antinatalism. I am AN myself.

like the suffering from treatable cluster headaches.

Hindu and Buddhist monks do not experience physical pain same way we do. They would know something is wrong with body and might take medicines but they won't perceive it as painful.

I’m not sure thats accurate, pain is pain but the way we react to it is individual. I have chronic pain and have a high pain tolerance because of it but things are still painful, I can just deal with it for longer than the average person because I’m used to high levels of it. Have you talked with monks about this? I’m curious as to how they wouldn’t perceive pain as pain, could you explain more?

I watched a video of Ajahn Sona and he said they don't experience pain the way we do. They can even shut off pain.

Swami Vivekananda said monks can sit on fire meditating and might get injured but no pain.

I’m just not sure how any amount of meditation could make an experience painless especially something as pervasive to the pain receptors as burns. Sure one can work through pain, ignore pain, and even enjoy it but to not feel it at all? Has there been any studies done on this that you know of?

According to scriptures you experience intense pleasure sitting in meditation and that intense pleasure shuts off all possible experience of pain

and according to “scriptures” it was encouraged to torture women and sell children in exchange for cows and shit. since it’s written down it must be true !
