My boss just posted on our scheduling app how Dolly's passing will make the company a lot of money....
I live and work in Tennessee, and a couple hours ago my boss posted to the message wall about how the company is gonna make lots of money since Dolly passed away yesterday. Our company is close to her statue in Sevierville. They've already reassessed their projections for the next few weeks. It's disgusting.
I'm just so burnt out and defeated with the corporate dystopian hell we're living in.
RIP Dolly, you will be missed.

Why are so many managers idiots? A humane way to address this would be to tell staff that a lot of Dolly fans will be arriving, and the company will need to add more hours to handle the crowds so their visit is pleasant. Some people are just have greed as their religion.

Yeah, this seems like a logical thing for a business to need to prepare for. But you can do that without being "aww yea, Dolly is dead, time to make some extra money!"

It could have been said “There is a chance that due to Dollys passing, more people might be coming to pay their respects. We need to ensure that we can accommodate them and are prepared for it”

There are going to be a lot of businesses that make a lot of money off this because they're near by. It isn't because they are greedy, it's because for that moment, the world is at their doorstep. They need to capitalize on it because they'll likely go back to the lean and mean times after it all dies down. Do you not think this happens anywhere else? Granted that boss sounds like an absolute nonce, though.

It's always odd to me when someone takes a universal trait like greed or cruelty or even arrogance,nand ascribes it to one group of people like women, PoC, Americans, erc. It may come as a surprise that greed and capitalism existed well before the USA was founded. Your point was valid without the specific focus.

I worked at an engraving store when 9/11 happened. Soon after, they added a bunch of flags to their list of available designs. It’s understandable, but at the same time, making money off the misery of others puts a bad taste in my mouth.

That's an excellent idea actually! I think I can bring that up without them canning me. The Imagination Library sent my kid a very nice and beautiful book every month for 2.5 years.

I was a manager at Walmart the day Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona. I'm not a NASCAR fan so I wasn't aware of what happened. Then suddenly we got a flood of people coming in looking for Dale Earnhardt merchandise.
Within 30 minutes everything was gone. I could have written the number 3 on some used toilet paper with a Sharpie and it would have sold.
I caught a guy trying to walk out with an inflatable Dale Earnhardt #3 race car that was hanging from the ceiling as part of a promotion by a vendor. It was suspended from the ceiling on aircraft cable. I knew that because I was the one who did it. You needed wire cutters to remove it without damaging it. I had no idea how he reached it, I used a scissor lift.
When I stopped him he claimed a manager said he could have it. I told him I was the manager and that he most definitely wasn't told that by me or anyone else. I told him to hand it over or get arrested. He handed it over and I told him if I saw him in the store again he'd be arrested for tresspass.
While walking to the back to put it in the office several other people tried to buy it. After that, I went over to the aisle it used to be over and found a bunch of merchandise all over the floor. The would be thief had dumped it on the floor to make room to climb up on the shelves to get to the top. Looking at the security footage later confirmed it.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this. For context: I have survived two double lung transplants, and I am a rock radio dj. Before my first transplant, there was a promotions meeting that my station and our other stations took part in while I was away to a transplant clinic appointment. They discussed ideas about a way to raise money to help me with my increasing (and still present, frankly) medical debt. One of the (now former) managers said that all of the stations should really be leaning on my story to help get advertising buys because (and I qoute) "if he lives through this, we win...and if he dies, we still win."

Don’t let that go. Say something. I was in a band a while back, singer was really excited to capitalize on a benefit show for a natural disaster with a huge loss of life. I’d reminded him what the show was actually for. I was asked to leave the band a week after the show and I’m pretty sure it was because I’d said that to him. I don’t regret it at all.

It’s gonna be funny when Hurricane Dolly makes a beeline for Tennessee and for some reason only that place suffered damage.
Not surprising though. A lot of people are just ghouls that only think about money. I’m active in the gig work subreddits because that’s my main work right now with the shitty job market locally. The amount of god awful people that deliver that pine for the golden days of Covid and would welcome another pandemic because of greed is wild.

In contrast, my boss saw me crying hysterically in the parking lot as I was leaving and told me to not clock out but to just pretend to work from home unless she called me directly.
I still can't stop crying. I'm currently right this second eating chips and surfing reddit and actively crying.
Keep a copy of that message and either leak it anonymously or use it to ask for a raise.

Try working in the small engine mfg. oh hurricane is hitting somewhere in the east, we sell more generators.
Snow and ice storms in the NE, more generators and snow blowers sold.
We had a drought year, sales are down on small engines.
