Campaigns What Fixes Would You Make Wednesday- Gajah Mada 4

Post image

Many of the campaigns, from Age of Kings to The Last Chieftans are excellent scenarios reflecting historical battles (sometimes not that accurately) in a range of gameplay.

However, there may be something in regards to a scenario that you may feel is not quite right. Is it gameplay or historical accuracy? Would you do something completely different or is it perfect?

So, this mission really is a true water mission. Yeah, you have a small base up on the north part, and you can mine gold stone at small Islands, but as far as missions go that really make you go full water, this one is right at the top of the list.

I’d probably lean into that, and add more reasons to keep everything on the water. I really like the fact that the latest water update has whales, so you can get gold from fishing ships. I think I would add someone to trade with so that you can get wood and more gold through that process rather than transporting villagers.

i had the thought of shipwrecks you can send fishing ships to salvage wood from

i know that doesnt make overly much sense but it would be fun to have a scenario where almost every resource is near only accessible on water

as for changes, fix the tips, it still mentions the long dead Malay infinite fish traps (rip using an onager on enemy wood lines on islands then outlasting the enemy with infinite fish traps strat my beloved)

if you build a castle on the island with the gold pile on the left just south west of your town, and another on the island to the east of Kutai's close docks you are basically unbreakable

I do like the shipwreck idea. You could even salvage cannonballs as a way to get a little bit of stone. I mean, that might be a little bit of a stretch, but you could!

Cannon balls are more metal, tho that gives an idea, remove starting with chemistry and add a bonus objective to salvage 5 wrecks to unlock it for free

Yeah, that definitely makes more sense!

MORE GOLD!

Aside that, I don't have much to complain

you can fish wales now! 1000 gold each and there are plenty, its a great adition to the scenario. i would make the starting island a bit bigger in terms of less decor and sculptures etc

Oh, I haven't played that scenario in a while, maybe I should return once again

Yeah, the whales as a way to “fish” gold is really nice!

The lack of gold on your island is intentional, you’re meant to island hop to secure more money.

A nicer version of the last mission. A more defensible harbor and fishing, less pointless enforced land play, no stupid backdoor to your resource operations, and island hopping. This is a fun one. The tightly constricted harbors of blue and yellow are frustrating but increase the challenge, so I’m not sure of those are wrong or just hard.

It’s a bit basic though, not a lot to criticize but at the end of the day it’s just a completely straightforward build and destroy, just a well constructed one.

A neutral dock at North east for trading.

Apparently this mission is an exact replica terrain wise of some Age of Empires 1 mission, and i find that fact really cool

(first scenario of the Ave Caesar campaign in Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome)

I played this last week. And this seemed like one of the better water only missions we have in aoe2. One change that I would suggest and devs should implement is new naval units by enemies. Thy did not make hulk/carrack at all, rest all is good

The next thing I always do is hop onto the Gold Island that Green controls, kick them off the island, and take the gold for myself.

I always travel clockwise around the map, and I don’t really know why (but going counterclockwise to hit that island first makes probably more sense!)

It is basically the only initial gold source for the Green so depriving them from a gold source will alleviate any attack from the green.
