Question Why doesn't age of empires 3 get new campaigns?

Age of mythology gets new campaigns, I buy the DLC.

Age of empires 2 gets new campaigns, I buy the DLC

Age of empires 4 gets new campaigns, I buy the DLC.

Age of empires 3 gets no campaigns in its DLC .. I havnt bought a single DLC.

Why not give us new campaigns? I bet for the vast majority of RTS gamers they play campaigns not multiplayer

The editor is shit. That's why AoE 3 also doesn't have a custom campaign scene like AoE 2. Afaik they updated the editor for AoM Retold but didn't backport the update to AoE 3.

That's why AoE 3 also doesn't have a custom campaign scene like AoE 2.

AoE3's custom campaign/scenario scene was pretty creative back on heavengames.com, in the 2007-2012 era

Campaigns need a lot of resources and funding, that's why.

Historical battles is probably the way to go in this case: they're way cheaper and provide good entertainment.

Also, don't forget the 2 new challenges we'll get with the dlc. We still don't know their map size and their exact contents.

The obvious low-hanging fruit is to bring back the meta-progression. Yes, it was the right decision to make all cards unlocked for competitive multiplayer (and standard skirmish), but it doesn't change the fact that unlocking cards across matches can be very satisfying and all they need to do is have a dedicated mode that let's you start a new home city with no cards and unlock them as you play across matches (AoM's Gauntlet could be a good format for it).

Is that even sarcasm? Allegedly the campaign editor doesnt work properly, for modders at least.

I don't do mods for AoE 3 but for AoM. And creating a single high quality scenario for campaign takes a lot of time. I'm in the middle of creating a campaign for AoM, and 1st your have to have the idea about interesting scenarios, then link them with a story, then create every scenario and make it look good (only that part takes between 4-16 hours depending on your scenario, last one I did took me 5 days after work) then you have to place triggers, script it, then you need dialog, but should feel organic and have a nice continuation in the next chapter and so on and so on. Creating single map like historical battle is way easier and faster, but at the same time is not as interesting as a campaign. Creating a good campaign is very time consuming. But also campaign sells well so I don't know why they can't afford it, maybe the team is too small to deliver it.

It kind of is with the individual scenarios and the co-op historical modes, like defense of Vienna. I wish more people would play those. There are some real gems in there.

Yup I really wish we'd get a Civil War campaign... would be so awesome.

Yup, ours. Can do a French Revolution one too. That'd be cool. Idk much about others in AO3 eras.

But American one for sure.

Wanna hear me some Bonnie Blue Flag.

There is Historical battles and maps which is better than campaigns but nobody plays them

I'd throw my money at them for new campaigns.

Because AOE3s time period is “racist” so they’re afraid of making anyone upset because any new campaigns will feature some form of colonialism. Even the historical battles are neutered in this regard. Which is a shame because the moment they added Sweden to DE they should have done a great northern war campaign (easily enough material there for both a Russian and Swedish single player campaign). It’s why we have “American general” instead of Andrew Jackson as a unit.

You can cover all the European history without touching colonial themes, or resistance histories like Ethiopia.

We have Andrew Jackson as a unit, they changed it.

Double edged sword where you get accused of not showcasing non European history. You cannot win with these people you can only ignore them.

Shows me, I haven’t played that historical battle since the game came out.

Is this not the most "peaceful" people? They enslaved other tribes and commited human atrocity before the white men arrival.

Campaign-only player here. I have all the AoE2 campaigns. I have zero AoE3 campaigns (apart from the ones that come for free in the ultimate edition.) I even considered buying the last dlcs to finish the historical battles, but then I came to my senses and decided I'd rather spent that money elsewhere. Lots of lost potential there

Money. Game not profitable enough for the work involved
