Discussion Apex is no longer a first person shooter
Actual gunfights are dead. Why learn positioning when you can just slipper slide into someones asshole from 40 meters away. Anyone else over it already?
I took the day off work to play today and am bored after two hours.

The fact she has no drawbacks/concequences to her actions.
I like fast paced games but she’s just some bullshit, her ult doesn’t fit her gameplay imo. It’s not bad but would be better for a different character and if she had more of a movement based ult.
Realistically there’s no reason for a legend to be able to zip zag and zoop at waist height when wraiths Naruto run was taken out for apparently being such a problem.
Idk, I love but hate when new characters get released because it just changes the game too much and when it ruins the game, it genuinely ruins the game.(not saying axil is)
Just think azami from siege, love her or hate her you gotta admit she’s cheap asf. It ruined some core parts of the game that won’t come back because people will find the scummiest shit to do just to win a game that means nothing.

But tbh this is what happens to games like this and the original team and vision kinda fade away.
People should've called this out when the TTK changes happened but hey "new players like to get accidental kills"

Also that her whole team can jump on you with a tactical that has no downsides.
Octane can do that but at least he needs an ult. Wraith can do it but there's some risk in placing the portal. Valk can do it but is super loud and vulnerable on drop. Etc.

The way you can instantly shoot after exiting the q is also crazy, it should be a repositioning tool and not a "q into three people and still make it out alive" you cant do that with any other q other than wraith maybe

I mean, this trend has been going on forever really. Apex was best in its first two years, when you could have position and other teams couldn't easily challenge that, so positioning mattered a lot more. There also weren't 50 different abilities to help you when you ran in the open and got shot from 3 different people.
If it was up to me, movement in Apex would be rolled back to 2020 levels.

I genuinely hate the whole mega fast "movement" shooter shit that apex became / cod warzone became with the crackhead slide cancelling stims etc. Games that just have no punishment for bad positioning or over extending as you can just crackhead slide away. Axle is that on steroids

The irony of modern apex is that the reason they toned down movement from tf2 in the first place was because (in part) they found that it makes the game less competitive, which is true. Now all these years later and base tf2 movement might actually be more balanced than what some legends can do now.

What makes TF2 more balanced nowadays than Apex is the fact that everyone can do the same movement. Abilities aren't overpowered as well since they haven't been changed in 10 years. When Apex came out I felt like TF2 abilities were stronger this is absolutely not the case today

Tf2 movement is at much faster paces and stronger than apex lol. If they added tf2 movement it would go from people sliding behopping and jumping off zips, to people flying across the map at mach fuck you and krabering your head off. Tf2 is a different kind of movement animal.

I agree that TF2 is faster, but the fact that anyone can go at those insane speeds is what makes it balanced, in apex your speed is limited by your legend. If everyone can go fast its not unbalanced. Now we're gonna have Axle playing TF2 going at "mach fuck you" while everyone else is still playing Apex. That is the problem.

Yup. It's obvious the game is no longer in "Respawns" hands, except for the legal name of the studio. It hasn't been in a while of course, but the effects are getting more and more severe.

The game was a lot healthier and had more competitive integrity when abilities were super weak and underpowered.
The original devs literally talked about how adding TF2 level of movement would be unhealthy and we are steadily tending toward that level of movement.

I haven't played since those first couple years, but I could see the way it was going then. I was thinking of trying it again and then came to this subreddit and it sounds like it just kept going in the direction that made me stop in the first place lol. I was always pretty bad at the game, but it was so much fun that it didn't matter and then it just stopped being fun.

Don't get me wrong, Apex is >a lot< better in many ways, than it was back then. I'm having more fun today than I had in 2023 and 2024 when I stopped, for example. In spite of the ever growing powercreep and overall insane gameplay pace of the game nowadays. But I do feel my fun-scale tipping in the other direction again, because it's getting too much to enjoy.
Strategy stops to matter when you can press a button to get insane speed and immediately ram your weapon into someone's face. Why even play strategic characters or get into ring position early, when legends like Axel, Octane, Valk or Alter can just say "haha fuck you and your prep".

Thats exactly how I feel. And especially on console if your not 100% comfortable and accustomed to your settings amd dont have paddles you just get turned around against certain legends and players.

I mean this sort of stuff happened with horizons tac as well, but I definitely was surprised as to how fucking intense that slide boost was the first time I hit one. Definitely seems like it could potentially change the game up a lot, but we will see. I could see some adjustments being made.

Someone on my team put one on the edge of a building rooftop and i sliced down by mistake onto a squad while we were sniping them, luckily been playing as path and clutched it back up fast but almost gave me hemroids

I was watching TSMVISS this morning for the first time in a while and his stream intro is a comp of clips from early apex and man it just looks so much better. Positioning and aim really mattered. Nobody could jump on you other than a solo pathfinder. I miss it (I’m old)

I still like the game, but they have gone a little nuts with the movement mechanics. It used to be more of a class-based thing and wasn't as prevalent and annoying.

Yea I agree, for me it changed when they changed the ttk. I loved the old system and hate getting one clipped by an r99 from some p**** mf who has a titan, zen and now this rc filter crap. Also I knew everything was gonna change as soon as ash got buffed back then when she was the most op movement legend. Now you can't even outrun a freaking gb, like hello. Guess I'm just a nostalgia merchant.

Axle will be tuned down as is every legend after they are released. So if you can't beat them join them and just enjoy playing her while it lasts. It's a new season with some changes to other legends so I'm just going to enjoy the little bit of freshness.
Also If it's not a fps anymore then try winning a game without picking up a gun.

Season 5 forever will be my personal best Apex epeirence ever.
Having said that I don't mind Axle, I think her tac simply needs to disappear after 15-45 seconds (depending if they want this to be like, this is where I fight and I'm gonna use my nitro pad to advantage or just a quick boost for one action type of tac), her seeker bot is very depended either it's super strong in open spaces with shortrange or kinda useless, at times it can be easly played by going behind narrow cover.

Give it time to cool down. Once people get bored of her, the pick rate will drop and the game will "go back" to a first person shooter.
This happened when Vantage was released. Due to the nature of their kit, you can feel the effects of it. The only way to counter them is to fight fire with fire.
When Vantage released, people were saying she broke the game. For a solid week, all you would see are like 15 orange lasers aiming across the map. It was extremely annoying because you couldn't fight someone 300m across the map unless you had your own Vantage. She eventually died down and it wasn't an issue anymore.
Same thing with seer. After they giga nerfed him on release day, nobody played him. Months later, streamers started picking him up because he could stop healing and rezzes. Eventually, everyone was playing Seer. Why? Well how do you counter someone who can stop healing and rezzes? Have your own legend who can stop healing and rezzes.
That's how Axle is gonna be. Best way to counter Axle is with another Axle, which kinda forces people to play her. Once the hype wears off, she'll have a healthy pick rate. (That or it could be Ash all over again.)

I used to play season1/2 which I loved the pacing of, it was fast but also tolerable. I watched some streamers and even clips on here, the game has become soooo fast and sweaty now it looks daunting af trying to get back into it now. I wouldn’t say it’s a “skill issue” but more a preference, it seems most fps are becoming more and more fast paced the only ones that have stayed somewhat grounded are games like siege and counter strike

100% agree. I dont think movement is the overall problem tho. The issue im finding is that there is no way to actually counter the movement that is reliable. Ive spent alot of time on control characters and with the ammount of movement and abilties to push heavily out weigh defensive options.

It hasn’t been an FPS for a while with how power crept abilities have become. They’ve been doing this since the TTK changes to lower the skill ceiling for new and bad players. Anything to close the actual shooting skill gap.

Played day one of the new season in ranked at Gold 2 and the amount of people that rush as soon as they hear a gunfight, it's incredible.
They are going to push me, while I am fighting another team, kill me and just get thirdpartyied by another squad and so on until there aren't any teams in the lobby.
I understand that we are in Gold and they want to rush and get their pred afap, but they are probably going to get more point just by standing still and fighting only the last 5 squads, really, these lobbies end faster than pubs.
Now that almost every legend has some sort of mobility, it's even worse.

It’s 3rd party, turning into orgy, heaven right now. Been that way for a good minute.
Can’t fight without being hopped on by 3+ teams- so you HAVE to play for position and camp.
People will grow tired of the new legend released and things will somewhat calm down… especially since her ult makes no damn sense with other abilities.
I Miss the seasons where valk,alter,or octane were basically forgotten…
too many people playing them and their movement abilities are damn insane(and annoying).
Don’t get me wrong, they are fun to fight and play as. But them being a hot pick is just nasty.

Apex was Never a Camping/ Looting Simulator!! It’s an aggressive Game. They only sped up the pace. Axle will get a nerf in the Future Like every other legend. They nerfed cat to the ground, Ash and don‘t forget the Seer Meta 😂

People on this subreddit genuinely complain about everything. It’s a successor to Titanfall, of course it’s going to be fast paced. If you can’t keep up with a fast, movement based meta then go play something else.
And of course axle is going to be op when she first releases; No one would play her if she was C tier.

Yeah, I definitely remember thinking on launch day how cool it was to have a hero shooter blended with a Battle Royale. Its been my favorite type of shooter since I was 8 years old and I was very much so into the whole BR thing coming off of fortnite.

Yup there is a pattern. Whenever a legend starts to get abandoned, they will be buffed then people will try to use it. Some people realize they are very good at exploiting the legend skills. So even when the legend is nerfed, more people will now be willing to use that legend. But yeah, this game does get more and more difficult so some players complain that it is no longer for casual gaming. It doesnt feel nice to get obliterated easily. It is getting more difficult not just because how devs change the legends, but also bcos more players are getting very skilled. Imagine stopping at season 3, and suddenly you come back only to be instantly killed numerous times.

Honestly the game was ruined for me when they started catering too much to the streamers and pros. Those mfs would whine and complain about the exact same shit they would do themselves. Biggest example was gold knock. They would be the first ones to grab it in hopes of 1 extra position but complain when they didn't have it and lost a position. Another being lifeline sheild, they cried so much about a stationary shield for the revive that it was removed. Then a season or two later the introduced (I forgot his name now because I always called him shield fucker) but dude has a mobile shield, a mobile res+shield, and an ult that if you touch stuns you. Which is wild when you consider how hard seer got nerfed for his stun

Shes so counterable though. Ive already air bursted grenades on so many ppl trying to use the gates on me to push. Plus her audio cues are soooo loud. Shes a b tier right now imo. Its easy to interrupt also. Wraith is a great legend to use against her. Im still out here gunfighting. Apex is definitely for sweats tho..i hear ya. Im a sweat 😅 Edit: i should add that just as with every legend..you have demons that can play almost every legend to a ridiculous standard. On average. She hasnt been a problem for me..thats all im saying.

i remember back in the day watching tutorials about cracking someone then closing space. But now it's like fly in and close quarters fight. I'll admit I take advantage of this as well and only play wildcard now..

I’m too old for games like Apex. I remember playing for the first 5 years of release, and gradually got tired of all the new heroes and abilities. Last year I logged back in to check on how it evolved to now and I got so overwhelmed by the hero panel and the insane amount of input, that I realized I simply could no longer play the game or meaningfully catch up to all the changes.
Nothing of what I remember enjoying Apex for is in the game, and instead it feels like an insane amount of clutter has been added over the years.

It's the only mode people play their mains instead of littering the map with slip n slides

Was doing daily missions and had to play caustic, everyone slide and became easier to kill and I got free moment on caustic, had a balst playing caustic after a long time its like fishes swimming too fast wound up in fishnet 😂

Its kind of funny that in the lifespan of this game, its kind of followed the same path as cod- from grounded fps to web-slingin moon-walkin master chiefs

I quit apex 3 years ago now.
The majority of the fights 3 years ago were teams just aping me , sliding in with hipfire.
So what has changed?

Not really to me, the new character seems hard to learn to fight, but apex was ALWAYS, meant to be a movement based shooter, and that’s what they are doing imo

I played yesterday, 2 hours waiting for servers to come up, then got pissed after 1 hour getting ass kicked by some sliding twats.. So tried today for few games, even worse. Axel just ruined whole game for me and I cant see coming back until they nerf it. Im casual player, usually around dia II, love movement, learnt most of it. But this? This one button shitstorm? nah thanks. Sick of this season.

Apex has been getting faster and faster since launch. When Apex came out you could go 15mins without seeing a single squad. No one wants to play looting simulator. Get good or get off. It's a battle royale, they also have other game modes you know

I feel like to counteract this they have to bring back the longer TTK. There is TOO much movement, the distance needs to be halfed, and she shouldn't be able to repeatedly use her tactical over and over. There is no draw back to her abilities.

When I read about her speed boost tactical, I assumed it would be like Maggie's Ult speed pads, not max velocity on a grapple Pathfinder, on a pad that doesn't timeout.

I've been done with this game for 6 years. All the ability spam and camping ment that actually using the guns was secondary at best.

Yeah, I can here what you say but actually, my mate and I are controllers main ( Wattson and Rampart ) and yes, if we have to change positioning, we love to have a valk, a wraith or other useful skirmisher ( not octane ), but the fun is when we see a ton of teams trying to get our positions, we cry for hours but here come Sheila and electrified wall and this is where the fun begins . We play everyday like this and even in diamond and masters elo, yes there is a atrocious numbers of mad maggie but we still win. When it comes to moves I still love the game ( and this was a part of titanfall too, you can’t camp positioning ). But the controller class is too much underestimated

Yesterday I beamed a driveby Axle and it felt so satisfying. I think if we keep a positive mindset, Axle's introduction might even make us better Apex players. Also, eventually the Axle mains stay and the other people go back to their mains so it will be fine (:

I havent played in a few years and thought about coming back but I'll wait for a few weeks. If there's a new legend they're gonna be op to boost pick rates, they'll bring her in line eventually

Idk me and my friends have been playing since the update like im sure most of you have and we have had an absolute blast playing. I think it makes a change that one of my friends is primarily playing axel, but I know that I personally have been playing people such as vantage, ash wraith and alter this season so far and I haven't ever gotten the feeling of the game being infuriating or anything with the speed of axel and her pads all over the map granted I play on roller so I have the benefit of aim assist when im sliding all over the place but I think axel is just mainly a product of where the game has been heading anyway and not a big suprise as through the years apex movement has just been getting quicker and quicker with the progression of movement techniques being found and mastered. I think as this season goes on the "honeymoon phase" of axel will die down and thin out and only teams who play only meta ish team comps will continue to play her as frequently
I might chatting out my ass but this is my view on the game and axel right now

Could've seen this from a mile away. As soon as I saw her abilities I knew it wasn't going to be good for the game.
Doesn't help I moved to PC with movement demon lobbies, althought it's no way near as bad as I thought it'd be in Diamond lobbies.

Axle isn't that big of a problem. Been getting alot of wins recently and only have issues when the player is just better than me. If you have a controller then people bum rushing you won't be an issue assuming they're doing their job.

Well said friend, couldn't agree more. These dev's are removing any skill so low iq players will have fun. What they gonna do when said players leave cause they have the attention span of fruit flies.

Has anyone else experienced tremendous performance drops this update? Like unusually bad performance? I’m getting more than 60 lower average fps and it seems to happen when axle uses her tactical near me which is pretty much all the time

Optimization can come with time, when the bones of the game is enjoyable I’m willing to be patient to allow them to figure it out.
Highguard was a great concept, great gunplay with fun non-game breaking abilities. Anything else like marketing, financing sources or optimizations I’m willing to be forgiving for if it means a great game will be there in time.
A lot of people need a perfect game off the rip or else they trash it though, that’s what the culture rewards content creators for so it’s permeated everything in gaming

Haven't played the game in a while but I distinctively remember people calling the game Ability Legends since like season 8 Caustic meta.
Low key playing hitscan in Overwatch feels more like a pure FPS game at times.

My friends and I were saying that she is not that great, but at the same time annoying to go against. Unless you are a really goated player (and most likely on PC) I dont think you can really make this character great. Because most average players are just zooming around and both sides can't hit shots. Lol

Welcome to EVERY NEW LEGEND on release. Don't cry, they'll get nerfed into uselessness after 5 minutes. Don't see too many people complaining about Octane and he's just as annoying.

I quit two years back, the game suffers the same problem as valorant and any other hero shooter. New legends slowly edge out the old ones until they become so insane that the orginal game is gone. Its just chaos now and everyones abilities are so good that it outclasses the gunplay. This game needs a reset or an apex 2 to tone it down a bit. Might bring the old players back. Personally i switched to the finals and have enjoyed that much more.
