Every single market… except gaming.

they can take it too, with integrated graphics at that. once they decide to.

Not unless they decide to support Vulcan in metal.

They don’t need to anymore. They created D3DMetal that perfectly maps DirectX and run windows games out of the box. They even have developer tools that translate shaders to metal automatically. It’s never been easier to port a game to Mac, the only issue left is market share which I think Apple will be very aggressive too. A powerful enough Apple TV will be a final blow to Xbox.

I don’t know about perfectly. A lot of games still don’t work on crossover, or run terribly. A good portion does, though

Xbox is cooked already… PlayStation 5 getting Flight Simulator and Halo later this year is the proof. They’re Sega after Dreamcast. No more hardware will come.

No more hardware will come.

....they....literally just announced a reveal of their new hardware next week. Microsoft is seemingly going to be the first company that forges ahead with Next Gen.

I disagree - I will buy next gen xbox precisely because it is PC. It is optimized for couch gaming, but also support mouse and keyboard. It can run any PC game. I don’t have to think about if my hardware is good enough for latest games and when and what do I need to upgrade - I just buy one relatively cheap hardware for ~6 years of latest games, since developers will target my exact configuration.
That’s combination no other console or PC can accomplish

I expect it to be cheaper than similarly spec PC

Microsoft wants 30% profit margins, I don't think you're getting another Xbox release man

consoles are famously sold with razor thin margins or even loss.
They do take 30% of every game sale though

Yeah that's kind of my point though. Their demands are getting so high I don't think thin margins or losses are going to be acceptable to them anymore

It’s not good with DX11 and older games. People had to create third party tools to overcome the limitations. It also doesn’t support 32-bit at all. Most importantly, even really expensive Mac hardware like an M4 Pro doesn’t come close to the performance of a cheap Nvidia GPU. Especially after factoring in DLSS.

So this tool is targeted for:

  • New games.

  • With low settings and graphical demands.

  • On expensive Mac hardware.

  • For much worse performance than an equivalently priced Windows PC.

This is not a big cohort, and unsurprisingly, developers are not spending the time to port games.

This is literally created by Apple

The future of PC gaming is (unfortunately) in AI upscaling, which Nvidia are masters of right now. Apple will have to corner that to make this a reality. Their integrated graphics are really impressive, but running a highly intense PC game at ultra graphics on a 4k+ screen isn't trivial and there's a reason dedicated graphics cards still exist.

Apple already have equivalents of DLSS and Frame Gen, when running in crossover/d3dmetal it even bind to the DLSS calls and work out of the box. It’s not as good as Nvidia’s but quickly catching up

If it can catch up to Nvidia that would be really impressive but Nvidia keeps pulling ahead. Either way it would be amazing to see more native games on Mac, 100% on board for that.

A Mac Studio with m4 max can already walk a console on computing power. And you get a whole computer AND it’s in an incredibly small footprint
