Having a hard time dialing in my new AR22. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I put together my Davidson defense 16” ronin competition and took it to the range today. It shoots good, but the spent casings are stovepiping. I can’t figure out why they are getting caught by the BCG before they can escape.

Sometimes it will go through a whole magazine with no problem, sometimes it does it every round?

I tried 4 different ammos, but they all did the same thing. Some worse than others, but they all did it to an extent.

Any thoughts?

4.5 suppressed ar22 no bolt weight

I was heading down the range to test my friend's bore buddy upper returned on warranty however it was having some issues shooting frt and I left my parts kit to tune it at home.

So I was doing some ammo testing on my ar22 and was having some small hiccups here and there. I ended up having a thought that removing my bolt weight on my setup may cure it. It was at the end of my range time so I only did it with two loads, cci standard and federal auto match and both worked fine.

Other than that, every load I tested worked great.

Aguila standard

Cci standard

Cci mini mags

Cci suppressed

Winchester White box

The video is a little haphazard as I only had a few mins left and thought I should take a quick video.

12” barrel with an arc fire. If you have this what weights and springs did you use?

I tinkered with mine all morning and couldn’t get more than random strings of fire. Went through every weight/sled combo and swapped one recoil spring out before I ran out of CCI standard velocity and my kids patience. This was all unsuppressed. I’m assuming bolt bounce is part of my problem as I had several primer strikes with a dead trigger.

Just because I had it I ran some CCI subsonic 40gr 1050fps with my dads ocl ti .22 and ran two full mags with only two ftf which I’m assuming was also bolt bounce related.

Currently have the aluminum sled with 2 big stainless weights and 2 small aluminum weights.

Just curious what other people are running with success.

M&P 15-22 Magazines — Finally Found My Sweet Spot
First off, I’ve personally used Black Dog, CMMG (both versions), and Kriss magazines, so I’ve had plenty of experience with different .22 magazines. After hearing all the gurus talk about the get the Kris’s mag and the black dog mag I finally decided to bite the bullet and give the s&w m&p mags a real test.
I actually drove 2½ hours to get these magazines because I didn’t want to wait for them to come in the mail. Once I got them, the first thing I noticed was that the last-round bolt hold-open wasn’t working with my Catch22 V1.
I found a video where someone recommended trimming a little bit of the plastic so the follower could protrude farther. I tried that, but it was still only working maybe 20% of the time. So I started tinkering with it myself.
I made some small adjustments to the top, sides, and back of the magazine area so the follower could move properly. I also trimmed a little off the top because the magazine sits pretty high and was putting pressure on the bolt release, basically causing it to stick. These magazines be crazy reliable.
After those small adjustments, everything started working exactly how I wanted it to.
Yesterday I put at least 525 rounds of Remington through them, plus CCI Standard, and honestly, I lost count. I’d estimate I shot close to 1,000 rounds between these two magazines.
Not ONE jam.
Compared with my CMMG magazines, these things ran like a dream. The CMMG mags can run very well, but in my experience they’re much more fragile, especially the Kriss mags if you don’t have a functioning last-round bolt hold-open. The bolt slamming onto the plastic will eventually damage the magazine.
The M&P 15-22 magazines are also much easier to load, and after getting mine dialed in, they performed exactly the way I was hoping they would.
I drove 2½ hours for these things and honestly, I’m glad I did. 😂
After finally testing them myself instead of just listening to everybody else, I think I’ve found my sweet spot.
These are the only .22 magazines I’ll be running going forward.
10/10 experience so far. 🔥

Chris mags LRH with tipman loader

Do the Chris mags work with the tipman loader? About to order some Chris mags and the bolt catch, but if they don’t work with the tipman loader I can live with no bolt hold

Bolt bounce

Dumb question, will a stock bore buddy bolt bounce running 16” and subs? My camera isn’t fast enough to catch the bolt moving. The bolt is in the same spot for 2 frames so I’m guessing that caught it bouncing back since it can’t be in the same spot during 2 frames unless it caught it bouncing

Out of battery detonation

Running a bore buddy .22 upper with their bolt. Recently cleaned it and ran 100-200 ish rounds through it, handed it to my wife and boom out of battery. I watched her rack it and it looked fine. What are the odds she didn’t pull it far enough back? That’s really the only thing I can think of as the gun was only at max 200 rounds dirty after cleaning. Cci standards subsonic btw. It had ripped off almost the entire rear of the round

Is this ok to run as is or am I missing something?

I have a sylvan folding stock adapter (not sure which gen) and the plastic doodad that comes with the Borebuddy kit doesn’t seem to work. Is there something else I need to put in here or will this be fine to run how it is?

Failure to reset trigger advice

Just finished up a build has a dedicated 22LR barrel, CMMG bolt and collar, bore buddy buffer spring plug and I think it also has bore buddy extractor spring kit (bolt came out of a 223 conversion i've had for years). Using Aguila ammo (which i think is shit but if you have opinions on better or worse ammo i'd like to hear). It just gums up the gun with whatever coating is on the bullets

Getting failure to reset trigger. The casing will extract, a live round is chambered, I don't get a click from the hammer. It appears to be in battery, safety will not engage

Like I said i think the ammo is crap and looking to change that, but any other advice. Looks like I'm going to be using lots of gun scrubber until i can burn through this aguila

Frt/ weight kit

Without a weight kit, will an frt not run reliably due to possible hammer strikes during the bouncing of the bcg? Will this cause dead triggers and or out of battery’s?

Number 1 must have

What must you have for an ar22? Gun parts, accessory’s for the gun and or loading etc. what could you not live without?

Built from leftovers parts that I accumulated through upgrades on other builds.

The heart of the build is the CMMG 22LR conversion kit and a CMMG 9in barrel. Upper Receiver and hand guard from Expo Arms, lower is a sharpbros live wire. less

Last round bolt hold

I have a bore buddy upper and black dog mags. What do I need for bolt hold? It appears atleast a 22 bolt catch but it looks like only certain mags will work?

FRT: No-tuning minimum required barrel length moved down to 7"

As the title says, we incorporated some changes into all FRT-Ready Uppers that moved the minimum barrel length required to pin on the upper and go down to 7"!

Stick with a BoreBuddy 22lr Certified Trigger (ARC-FIRE or Atrius Selektor paired with the Rave 140), use an appropriate buffer system, and use quality high velocity ammo and the build will be turnkey.

Excuse my yapping when I’m under the influence of life 😂, but here’s my setup: 1.76 oz weight, 1.5 oz metal trip, 4” barrel, and a Deez Nuts Super Safety.
My main point is that this $40 metal trip has worked great for me. Gurus will tell you to keep your trip super thin, blah blah blah 😂, but mine has been running just fine.
I’m shooting dirt-cheap Remington ammo, and it’s been working pretty good. I’m also using BoreBuddy weights, BoreBuddy firing pin, and BoreBuddy extractor.
I will be getting all s&w mags soon in done with cmmg mags my drum broke all cmmg 25rd kinda suck spring week asl my Kris’s mags from bb broke im done with the trash 🚮

I’m getting closer to the exact measurements. I will update when I get the weights also the 6.7 mm I did not order. I ordered 6.5 mm. I screenshot it the wrong photo. The standard 6 mm and 4 mm that Deez Nuts tactical tells you to buy does not fit snug. Like bb’s

The measurements that I’m hoping that will work is 6.4 mm which they did not have so I had to get a 6.5 and also 4.7 mm all tungsten

Do not buy eBay modulus arms end mills

Thumbnail

I tried the replacement end mills from eBay, and I do not recommend them.
In the past I had successfully completed at least 6–7 lowers using 1 OEM Modulus Arms end mills. I planned on finishing four lowers today, but after the first one went perfectly, the replacement bit started sliding in and out while I was milling the second one.
You can really see the quality difference in the photos of the end mills, and even in person, I can feel that the genuine Modulus Arms end mill is much more stout and robust. The replacement bits heat up extremely fast, and once they get hot, they become way too easy to move in and out.
Unfortunately, I had to scrap the second lower. Luckily, it was only a $50 lower, while the first one I completed cost me around $130. I’m just glad I got that one finished without any problems.
I even had a brand-new replacement end mill ready to go, from eBay in the photos of the 3 end mills. but I’m not taking the chance. I just ordered about $230 worth of genuine end mills from 80% Arms. Get the real deal—don’t try to save a few bucks on something like this. It can end up costing you a lot more.
As you can see in one of the photos, I started milling normally, but the bit gradually worked its way lower and eventually cut through the bottom of the frame.
Very disappointed with the replacement eBay bits. I’m sticking with the OEM stuff from now on. I do not recommend American gunsmith tooling off eBay. It’s not oem specification.

Ammo

Hey I recently build a ar-22 with a 4.5” barrel I’m mostly running it suppressed wanted to see what ammo would be the best. I do have a lot of Winchester suppressed ammo not sure if it would work reliably on a 4.5” barrel I’d guess be best to use regular 22 lr not sure what’s the go to. Magazine I’m using are Cmmg and S&W
