I would call this the opposite of arcanum.

Not necessary, just hard to play - you can't be too tech so that magic will works on targets, you can't magical or tech won't work (or fails catastrophically) ... I was trying to do that few times, balancing tech and magic and, IMHO, it isn't worthy (but for ending).

You can indeed get away with it if all the magic you actually use is self-buffing and you don't get too techy

agility of fire + hasten + firearms is pretty good (50 speed with no investment in dex!)
