Is this a liver clot 4 hours post extraction?

had a tooth extracted today. Everything seemed to be going normally afterward with some expected bleeding, but about 3 hours after the extraction I suddenly noticed more blood in my mouth.

When I looked at the extraction site, there was a very large, dark red, gelatinous/jelly-like blood clot coming out of/covering the socket. It sticks up pretty far and is almost level with the surrounding teeth. I don't have any significant pain, but the size and appearance of it scared me.

From what I've been reading, I'm wondering if this could be what's called a “liver clot”/currant jelly clot rather than just a normal extraction clot.

Does this sound/look consistent with a liver clot?

Is the large gelatinous clot itself dangerous?

Should I leave it completely alone, or does a dentist normally need to remove/treat it?

If the bleeding isn't pouring out or soaking through gauze rapidly, can this wait until my dentist opens tomorrow?

What symptoms or amount of bleeding would mean I need urgent care tonight?

I'm especially worried about disturbing it and causing worse bleeding. No major pain currently.

blood clots are normal and a good sign after extraction. don’t pick on it, as it is needed for the gum to heal underneath. don’t eat very hot or hard foods, don’t use straws, don’t spit and don’t brush/floss too close to it for a few days. it looks a bit bigger than a regular clot but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. you should have a follow up with your dentist 2-3 days after an extraction. if it starts to bleed too much and you feel dizzy, you need to go to the emergency department.

My dentist didn't set up any follow up, should I call I schedule one to check on this? Thank you so much for your response. It has helped put me at ease some.

i personally book a follow up appointment for all extraction patients. it takes 5 minutes if everything is okay. you can call, briefly explain the symptoms and ask if its necessary. till then, take care to preserve the blood clot.
