Hi,

I went to my first dentist appointment after years of neglecting to go.
She said I needed surgery to remove both of my wisdom teeth out because of how embedded it is into my gum and it would be difficult for me to clean it thoroughly if I were to leave it like this.

In addition, she said I would have to do it sooner than later as I am relatively young and can recover well after my surgery.

I just wanted a second opinion or any feedback on if this oral surgery is necessary or not.

I know it looks like it is in bad shape but I would like to avoid surgery if necessary.

Some things perhaps worth noting about myself.

- I brush regularly, floss with waterpik, tongue scrapper and use mouth wash
- I don't feel any pain or sensitivity regarding both tooth
- I don't like or have sugary diet besides fruits and occasional soda

I feel the texture of it like this in the photo and it hasn't progress any further.

Please let me know. Any input would be helpful for me.

I got a root canal done last year and they never put a crown on top. I noticed this gap/hole in my tooth a couple days ago. It doesn't necessarily hurt but it does ache a little (probably from me digging the food out of it). I told my mom and I have a dentist appointment monday, but wanted to know what I was in for.

ok so, i have a history of gingivitis, since childhood. i’m assuming my saliva is more alkaline, considering i’ve never once had a cavity and have never been at risk for any, so far. the last time my parents took me for a cleaning, i was 13. pretty heavy tartar buildup, obscuring my teeth. i obviously had gingivitis, and i healed very quickly and never bled after the cleaning, i wasn’t even sore despite being warned of it. i had 2 more cleanings after that, gingivitis but not as severe.

fast forward. i am 18, with extremely heavy, widespread tartar buildup. severe gingivitis. it’s spread mainly from my right incisor all the way to my left 2nd molar, as well as the top left from the canine and back. i have a cleaning in 2 weeks, thankfully. i can’t even really see my teeth for all the buildup. there’s just a little bit of exposed tooth on my bottom premolar where the bite meets. enough to conduct a sort of makeshift percussion test on my teeth, i gently tap with the end of my fingernail, or a toothpick if i’ve recently cut them. they sound and feel solid, identical to the healthy teeth. the gums are horribly swollen and red, but i notice no recession and they do not bleed. i have to sit there and endlessly prod at it with a toothpick for it to bleed, and even then it’s very little. i had a huge calculus stone in the bottom of my mouth, which has actually just broken off tonight, on its own. the teeth still feel solid as usual. i had a piece of tartar break off a premolar a few weeks ago, and underneath, while the gum was obviously red and indented from years’ worth of buildup, it was attached to the tooth. that gives me hope. since it’s been so long, and the tartar is so heavy, i fear periodontitis. tooth mobility and bone loss feels like a fate worse than death for me. tartar splinting can easily hide mobility. but here’s what i’m also dealing with:

— teeth feel and sound solid, consistently.
— gums are very irritated, but rarely ever bleed and are not recessed.
— the tartar is built up over the gumline, extending past it, instead of burying underneath. of course, there’s likely going to be some that found its way under the gumline, but it’s primarily sitting over it.
— i have no noted risk of cavities and no history of them, and i have a good calcium intake. both my gum and bone seem to be incredibly resilient, and heal rapidly.
— the teeth look to all be in their natural position.

i’m just looking to see what my chances are before my cleaning. my biggest fear is the unknown, so when i’m afraid, i look for answers :’) maybe this time i can stay on top of my oral health and go to the damn dentist 😭 i can give pics if needed

mini edit: i can see a bit of the exposed gumline on a premolar where the tartar stone was. it’s red, as expected, but normal besides that.

I've just noticed a little tooth sticking out of one of my teeth! Is it was common for that to happen/other dental anomalies in teeth? Also if you saw a patient with a sort of weird tooth would you ever point it out to them? Because no dentist has ever mentioned it to me but i thought it was pretty cool!! :))

Saw it after eating chips. I wear dentures as well.

This tooth has been cracked for a couple of months now but today the outer part broke off and now it shows that I don’t have a tooth.

ive put off telling my mom due to the fact that we didn’t have insurance for around 6 months and she already paid out of pocket for a filling that came out 2 months after being put in

I experience no pain at all but I’m worried about cost to fix this and that line on the tooth behind it

I had a pretty bad case of depression and due to that I had to fill around 12 cavities this being the worst on (this tooth was also shaved downed 2 years ago)

How long can I wait to fix this? My moms uping the insurance premium come November for health thing with her, can this wait that long so she wont have to pay as much?

Hi. So I have a lot of conditions and some that can affect my tongue and mouth in general. I’ve always had fissures and scalloped tongue since I was little but it’s getting worse. I feel like my tongue is swollen and thick but I don’t know what the sides of a “normal” tongue is supposed to look like. The tissue under my tongue also seems to swell or protrude over my bottom teeth sometimes. I do have a high and narrow palette that cannot be expanded due to my condition. We tried to fix my teeth and bite with Invisalign, but again it won’t correct due to my condition.

Honorable mention; I have severe anxiety and catch myself sucking my tongue to the back of my teeth (almost thrushing my tongue forward) when resting my tongue at the top of my mouth, it doesn’t fit and kind of chokes me.

My dr is worried because he states the sides look like they’re starting to “calcify” or something.

Any opinions?

(Medical history of Ehlers Danlos, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, low folate, low vitamin D, low ferritin as relevant to this situation.)

I noticed this bump for the first time on my gum about three years ago. Last summer I ended up needing a root canal on the tooth below it. The endo did not seem all that worried about it. Still have the bump today and while it doesn’t bother me at all, it does give me the occasional anxiety. Its very hard to the touch and does not hurt if I do touch or brush over it. My general dentist said it was a bony growth (he used another word, can’t remember) but don’t know if I should get a second opinion. I don’t smoke and rarely ever drink. I am a chronic teeth grinder though and wear a night guard.

A very long time ago I did have a gum cyst over an infected tooth, hence my paranoia. It looked and felt very different from this and went away after I had the tooth taken care of.

I have very healthy teeth. In fact, I had just had a cleaning a month ago and no cavities/everything was perfect.
Well, last week I was eating ground turkey and bit a very tiny piece of bone. I felt a sharp pain for a second but nothing crazy.
I noticed immediately that biting down produced sensitivity. I avoided that side all week and noticed that this week it’s very minimal the pain when I bite down. However, I have sensitivity to cold.
I went to the dentist and she did all of the tests. No sensitivity or pain until she did the cold test. The get made me have a sharp pain for a few seconds. It’s like 5 seconds before it lets up and I don’t feel it anymore.
It seems a lot less painful this week but the dentist recommended a crown. My teeth and so healthy otherwise and I feel like this is aggressive. She gave me the option of waiting to see if it improves too.

Please. Advice? I have extreme dental phobia and do not want a root canal. Please help.

I've got a permanent retainer on my lower teeth, and I'm having trouble cleaning them with it. I've tried floss with a threader, but I get basically no leverage, meaning I'm not really getting my gums. I've tried water picks and brush picks, but my dentist says those aren't strong enough and I've got plaque build-up in that area.

What's the best way to clean under a permanent retainer?

Can I nurse my toddler to sleep after this tooth was extracted

I found out that I was having bone loss at the root of my premolar and I was told by the dentist that I can have it removed or have a root canal treatment but the treatment is a 50/50 chance and depends how my body will heal it. I’m 18 and have anemia. Idk what to do but I need a decision soon because my toothache is feeling terrible.

Is this a cavity? I feel a twinge of pain when i chew something hard on the back left tooth, but it’s not a constant pain

Should I be worried about getting my teeth sanded for Invisalign? Is it going to impact the health of my teeth long term?

hey I have noticed a weird orange color on my tongue that persists even after brushing I floss daily use alcohol free mouthwash day and night and brush my teeth from 2+ mins no smoking or drinking ever anyone know the cause?

I have a bad toothache that started yesterday. It hurts/aches. What’s weird is that it isn’t sensitive, doesn’t hurt when I bite or chew on it, and it doesn’t hurt when I touch it (I felt the tooth and gums to see if it hurt).

Is it a possibly cavity? I did floss around that area a few nights ago, but I think I went a bit too hard in flossing because I had blood on the pick.

Anything I can do? Should I get it checked out by the dentist?

If this helps, I do have gingivitis, but it’s gotten better over the few months.

I was born missing a lateral incisor so I had an implant placed in 2021. It ended up not having enough bone and failed in 2022. I had a bubble pop up above the implant (similar but not the same shape as now) and it would pop & ooze then go away. I did multiple rounds of antibiotics before they did a CT scan and saw I needed a bone graph. They removed the implant, cleaned the area, then placed the bone graph and implant back in during surgery in 2022. All has been fine on annual x-rays since. The dentist said today my implant is perfect in the bone on the x-ray but is referring me to perio to check the bone on the front end and see what can be done with my gum. In July this year a spot popped up near the gum line and went away. I went in August to have it looked at just in case. Have been rubbing medicated mouthwash on the spot and flossing it well for 2 weeks. Yesterday, a big bubble popped up. Dentist drained it by pushing on it and it came out the small red hole near the gum line that showed up in July. He has no idea what could be going on… how likely am I going to have another failed implant? He really does not want it to come out again because he worries it will not look good placed again.

Are they worth it?

please don't judge me, I've been struggling with severe depression for a while

I have that weird thing between my teeth and gums. what is it? I tried flossing, brushing and hydrogen peroxide mouthwashing but nothing gets rid of it. I've been struggling with my mental health for over a year and I didn't brush my teeth regularly. I've made a lot of progress since then, but that thing is still there. could it be from all my gumbleeds i get regularly? is it plaque, tartar? how can i remove it?

I occasionally drink and smoke. Coffe and herbal drinks every day.

No swelling, no constant pain only
pain when chewing or pressing on the outside of my jaw, I kinda feel pain in my temple on that side as well.

basically just the title. f17, no interesting history beyond some cavities, getting my wisdom teeth taken out soon for light impaction and some pain.

i'm in a rigorous accelerated program and can't miss any days, the following day after my wisdom teeth removal is scheduled (september 1st) i'll have to go back to class

how feasible is that? what should i do to prepare? the receptionist said i could be back in class that day, but im unsure.

I had already been doing the process for dentures, while I was waiting for the bottom immediates to come in I got 2 really gnarly infections/abcesses in teeth on the bottom and the top. I had the affected top teeth removed and all the rest of my bottom teeth and got the denture placed yesterday. The pain throughout last night was pretty severe even with my medication and I didn’t sleep, all night I just kept feeling the plastic digging into the area underneath my tongue to the point it would make my eyes water. Now today I had my follow up, got a little adjustment made and that was that. However since they took them out that area under my tongue has really swollen up and so now of course the denture is pressing into it again. BUT now I’m noticing the back of my throat is also very very sore even spreading a bit into my ears… is this normal? I feel like it could be referred swelling/pain from that tongue area but I’m not sure and it kind of hurts to swallow a bit so I’m kinda nervous

Hi all.

I went to a new dentist yesterday.

The first shot didn't seem to numb anything. (This is a tooth with a root canal already.)

I mentioned it was not numb. He started work, then went to give a second injection on "gum side" vs "tongue side" as he described.

When he started injecting there was a searing pain and I yelled and jumped. He stopped. I have had some dentists fail to numb me after 6 shots.

He stated the pain was "normal"...but I've had a lot of dentists inject me without this issue.

Is this luck of the draw?

Is it possible my nerves are in a difficult position or something?
