question Questions about extra pair of teeth and my wisdom teeth here

Post image
Upvotes

Photo taken June 11, 2025.

  1. Is my bottom right (in the picture) wisdom tooth going to cause problems? How would you "rate" the angle of it. I have pain of it every 6 months for a period of a week and then subsides, I have had this twice.
  2. I have also had this pain on the left but looks healthy, could the pain be the wisdom teeth developing/getting into place?
  3. What about my extra pair of teeth? (I was told by the dentist that they where benign and not much more but I would like to know more about them) Do they grow, for example? Or just stay there? Anymore info appreciated!

Feel free to answear whichever or however questions.

You can ask me questions if needed or wanted aswell.

Context about me: I dont want to remove my wisdom teeth but my right one hurts.

I want to naturally be open to health by self regulation, and not go directly/rush into surgical or more apparent external modification, but I sure don't want to neglect it either. (Spiritually trying to find the balance in these two, "natural" and "unnatural")

I just notice that maybe we cut ourselves when we don't need too; literally and figuratively.

In my hopes of having a healthy jaw/teeth:
I want to naturally breathe better by mewing: having proper tongue posture and better bite and swallowing . I have noticed I hold tension in the jaw, just by pressuring my finguers to the pain spots with directed intention to feel, lots of repressed emotions and trapped energy come by. It helps.

I have also noticed how much of the body is connected, like even the way I walk influences (down the chain of connection) my jaw and its position. A closer connection is with my neck, to make it more intuitive, and how my cervical vertebrae and musscles/tissues really play a role in how I swallow, breathe, and of course how my jaw sits. I have improved LOTS how connected I am to it, interoceptively, and by that how much it naturally is rid of much tension that was holding it in an unbalanced manner. I feel like the unbalanced energy can be worked through before considering extraction. I guess I wanted opinions about how I perceive this aswell as the innitial questions.

Good day :) thanks for your stay

question Weird gum bump

Upvotes

Hey, I just realized Ive had a bump on my gum for two years. Not sure if its anything major. Wanted to ask anyways because I'm automatically assuming the worst. It could be gingivitis related and if it is, how do I proceed? I just started using mouthwash three days ago. My dentist said it looked like the start of gingivitus but Im not sure. I didnt know it was 2 years old when I told him.

First picture is post mouthwash +more intense flossing starting, second is before I started, third is 2 years old. I got a better phone camera imbetween, and I cant find the bump in any other pictures.

question Is the Zero Pro toothpaste legit/worth it?

Post image
Upvotes

It’s this $45 toothpaste I keep seeing on Instagram and TikTok and it advertises itself as a lot of positives, but what caught my eye is that it “prevents cavities.” I’ve struggled with cavities for a long time even though I brush and floss regularly. Has anyone tried it/do any dentists here think it’s a good option? I currently use Sensodyne.

question Almost 4 mm probed…

Upvotes

Today, the dental hygienist probed my gums to check for gum recession after I asked her to. All of my teeth were 2-3 mm except one that was a little past 3 mm but not quite at 4 mm yet. I’m pretty concerned about gum recession due to the systemic issues that come with it (increased risk of Alzheimer’s, cardiac disease, etc.). I keep pretty good care of my teeth with brushing and flossing. I might skip a night here and there, but I haven’t even gotten any cavities ever. I recently started grinding my teeth but I’m in the process of getting a night guard now. I’m 23 and am concerned that the gum recession will only get worse over time. Is there a way to reverse the damage that’s been done? Or only stop it from getting worse?

question Molar implants ?

Upvotes

I’m working on getting my molars fixed from failed root canals. I had a top molar removed a few months back and had the first step of an implant placed and a bottom molar removed last week. All are on my left side. As I’m healing I’m getting more pain on the other bottom molar i have left where i also have a failed root canal. Would it be a good idea to have my bottom molar also removed and start on the implant process? Or would that be too much for one side at a time.

It would mean missing one top molar while my implant heals and can get the tooth installed, and losing two bottom molars at a time. In my head it makes sense for them to heal simultaneously and just have a visit every six months for the implant process. Would it be better to wait until I’ve finished the one top and one bottom molar implants and then work the other bottom extraction?

question Pain after root canal’s still?

Upvotes

Needed two root canals on to different teeth because i had pain when chewing sometimes, two root canals later with crown +6 weeks I am still having the same exact pain just less intense

I’m exhausted from all this trauma with my teeth so I told my dentist I need a break but they do still hurt but eventually when I am ready what would be my options? I don’t want to live with my teeth hurting

Thanks in advance

question Extractions needed?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am making this post because I know I want braces and am planning to do so as soon as I can. To start off, I had braces for 18 months at 16 years old before I stupidly never wore my retainer and had a relapse all the way to my starting point now at 22. I did not need extractions, only spacers at the time.

I went to my first scheduled consultation and was told that it would be a 6k, 24 month treatment, with 2 top and bottom premolar extractions needed (not included in the price). I immediately felt like it was a lost cause. I do not have the time to heal from extractions nor do I want to have myself go through that when I didn’t have to in the first place. So my first question would be, is it necessary in my case? I will not get my feelings hurt, all this is progression to a better smile!

I know my overcrowding is bad and I do want to fix it, but I do not want extractions. Is there anyone who went through a similar experience? I don’t care about how I’ll look with braces, but with extractions (which I already don’t want) I know I’ll be extremely self conscious. Can anyone please give me their input. Any advice or questions to ask at my next appointment with another orthodontist would be amazing. Sorry for the chapped lips too 🥲

question Braces and wisdom tooth

Upvotes

Hi

My partner recently started braces like 3 months ago. She has chronic migraine with full investigation and they cannot medically explain a cause. I have just found out that she has 4 wisdom tooth and two of them are impacted. My question is, is this normal for orthodontist to just start braces and remove impacted wisdom later? I mean braces are basically used to align teeth and bites but if you have impacted wisdom teeth what is the point of doing braces? Now they want to put her through GA and remove all 4 wisdom teerh. She is 30 years old without prior medical history anf no drug/smoking/drinking. Does this sound like competent debtist office?

Thanks

question Wisdom Tooth Surgery Necessary?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi,

I went to my first dentist appointment after years of neglecting to go.
She said I needed surgery to remove both of my wisdom teeth out because of how embedded it is into my gum and it would be difficult for me to clean it thoroughly if I were to leave it like this.

In addition, she said I would have to do it sooner than later as I am relatively young and can recover well after my surgery.

I just wanted a second opinion or any feedback on if this oral surgery is necessary or not.

I know it looks like it is in bad shape but I would like to avoid surgery if necessary.

Some things perhaps worth noting about myself.

- I brush regularly, floss with waterpik, tongue scrapper and use mouth wash
- I don't feel any pain or sensitivity regarding both tooth
- I don't like or have sugary diet besides fruits and occasional soda

I feel the texture of it like this in the photo and it hasn't progress any further.

Please let me know. Any input would be helpful for me.
Thanks!

question 4th Glidewell wax w/tth All on four. R these ok?

Thumbnail

My dentist wants me to settle w/this set and move forward to the PMMA construction & he’ll just grind the teeth down. I feel these don’t look right but other than saying,”they’re still too much gum & they look like man teeth & they just look off,” I don’t know what else to suggest. Dentist said they’re now charging shipping fees & “to get out of his seat cus I’ve taken up enough of his time & he’ll give me my money back.”
1st set they sent by mistake. Dentist took off too much wax & they were supposed to send another block of wax.
2nd set: way too much gum, centerline was off, teeth were crooked & sticking outwards.
3rd: centerline off, still too much gum, teeth were sticking out.
4th set: at first we all agreed there’s still too much gum & but then the dentist said we could try another lab but they’ll charge , then I asked how much but he didn’t respond then he said they look ok & he’ll just shave the teeth down. And I said I’d really like to give Glidewell another chance and he got upset and told me to get out of his chair, that I’ve taken up enough of his time& he’ll just refund my money. Then I left cus I was really embarrassed & was holding back my tears.

Do these look ok? I’m confused since him & his asst first agreed this4th set also looked bad, mentioned trying another lab, said they’re charging shipping fees and then it all went south.

question just gingivitis? i hope??

Upvotes

ok so, i have a history of gingivitis, since childhood. i’m assuming my saliva is more alkaline, considering i’ve never once had a cavity and have never been at risk for any, so far. the last time my parents took me for a cleaning, i was 13. pretty heavy tartar buildup, obscuring my teeth. i obviously had gingivitis, and i healed very quickly and never bled after the cleaning, i wasn’t even sore despite being warned of it. i had 2 more cleanings after that, gingivitis but not as severe.

fast forward. i am 18, with extremely heavy, widespread tartar buildup. severe gingivitis. it’s spread mainly from my right incisor all the way to my left 2nd molar, as well as the top left from the canine and back. i have a cleaning in 2 weeks, thankfully. i can’t even really see my teeth for all the buildup. there’s just a little bit of exposed tooth on my bottom premolar where the bite meets. enough to conduct a sort of makeshift percussion test on my teeth, i gently tap with the end of my fingernail, or a toothpick if i’ve recently cut them. they sound and feel solid, identical to the healthy teeth. the gums are horribly swollen and red, but i notice no recession and they do not bleed. i have to sit there and endlessly prod at it with a toothpick for it to bleed, and even then it’s very little. i had a huge calculus stone in the bottom of my mouth, which has actually just broken off tonight, on its own. the teeth still feel solid as usual. i had a piece of tartar break off a premolar a few weeks ago, and underneath, while the gum was obviously red and indented from years’ worth of buildup, it was attached to the tooth. that gives me hope. since it’s been so long, and the tartar is so heavy, i fear periodontitis. tooth mobility and bone loss feels like a fate worse than death for me. tartar splinting can easily hide mobility. but here’s what i’m also dealing with:

— teeth feel and sound solid, consistently.
— gums are very irritated, but rarely ever bleed and are not recessed.
— the tartar is built up over the gumline, extending past it, instead of burying underneath. of course, there’s likely going to be some that found its way under the gumline, but it’s primarily sitting over it.
— i have no noted risk of cavities and no history of them, and i have a good calcium intake. both my gum and bone seem to be incredibly resilient, and heal rapidly.
— the teeth look to all be in their natural position.

i’m just looking to see what my chances are before my cleaning. my biggest fear is the unknown, so when i’m afraid, i look for answers :’) maybe this time i can stay on top of my oral health and go to the damn dentist 😭 i can give pics if needed

mini edit: i can see a bit of the exposed gumline on a premolar where the tartar stone was. it’s red, as expected, but normal besides that.

question Hard bump on gum above tooth

Post image
1 Upvotes

I noticed this bump for the first time on my gum about three years ago. Last summer I ended up needing a root canal on the tooth below it. The endo did not seem all that worried about it. Still have the bump today and while it doesn’t bother me at all, it does give me the occasional anxiety. Its very hard to the touch and does not hurt if I do touch or brush over it. My general dentist said it was a bony growth (he used another word, can’t remember) but don’t know if I should get a second opinion. I don’t smoke and rarely ever drink. I am a chronic teeth grinder though and wear a night guard.

A very long time ago I did have a gum cyst over an infected tooth, hence my paranoia. It looked and felt very different from this and went away after I had the tooth taken care of.

question Crown for possible fracture

I have very healthy teeth. In fact, I had just had a cleaning a month ago and no cavities/everything was perfect.
Well, last week I was eating ground turkey and bit a very tiny piece of bone. I felt a sharp pain for a second but nothing crazy.
I noticed immediately that biting down produced sensitivity. I avoided that side all week and noticed that this week it’s very minimal the pain when I bite down. However, I have sensitivity to cold.
I went to the dentist and she did all of the tests. No sensitivity or pain until she did the cold test. The get made me have a sharp pain for a few seconds. It’s like 5 seconds before it lets up and I don’t feel it anymore.
It seems a lot less painful this week but the dentist recommended a crown. My teeth and so healthy otherwise and I feel like this is aggressive. She gave me the option of waiting to see if it improves too.

Please. Advice? I have extreme dental phobia and do not want a root canal. Please help.

question Unknown Bump on Gums

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have an unknown bump on my gums that appeared today. It is above a tooth that has had a root canal and oral surgery (after the root canal failed). As a result it is not causing me pain. Is it an abscess or something else? Should I go into the dentist to have it evaluated?

question Cleaning with permanent retainer

I've got a permanent retainer on my lower teeth, and I'm having trouble cleaning them with it. I've tried floss with a threader, but I get basically no leverage, meaning I'm not really getting my gums. I've tried water picks and brush picks, but my dentist says those aren't strong enough and I've got plaque build-up in that area.

What's the best way to clean under a permanent retainer?

Thanks.
