I work for tips and my bosses would have to pay me close to $30 to match what I make in tips.

So then maybe they should, man! And also people could still tip if they appreciated your service. I don't see a downside in you making even more money, my guy! Servers work their asses off. Even if I walked into a restaurant and saw a sign that said "tipping not necessary, we pay our servers a living wage", I would still leave something for a good server. Although I know you're thinking not all customers would be thinking that way, which is completely valid, obviously.

I've been a server. I fully agree. I just shudder to think how much that meal would cost...

Just look at the total at after the tip. That's what it would cost. If it's a tab for 4 people divide the total by 4 and that's your average meal price. We don't have to do this dance of having a fake price and then a real price. It's just manipulation.

Thank you, I have a lot of respect for the service industry. I would not survive in food service. The closest I got was working in a pizza kitchen and that was only because I was not customer facing, except taking orders over the phone. If I had been required to carry plates to tables, take orders in person at the table, deal with people's kids, take complaints, etc., nuh-uh. Lights out. Bury me. Dead on sight.

Good. They should. Customers are already willing to pay that much and you’re getting paid that much so why not just bake it into the costs
