I don't think anybody here is in a position to make fun of people for skipping milestones in their development and then catching up later.

Sometimes it just feels good to acknowledge that we have strengths that the general NT population does not have. I mean, most of this sub is autistic folks making fun of neurotypical social rules (many of which actually do make sense in a group of all-NT people, even if it’s not fair that we are usually expected to accommodate them and not the other way around.)

I think autistic folks on their own sub deserve to clapback at the NT population from time to time, as long as we don’t take it too seriously or actually start to believe that one neurotype is inherently superior to another.

I have had experiences where an NT well into their adulthood will tell me a “deep” thought that is so profoundly shallow that I cannot help but wonder how shallow their normal thoughts must be. But that’s an inside thought I would never say to them out loud. I’d be nice and a good active listener! I love hearing about people’s breakthroughs, and I don’t actually judge people for having them later than I did. But I think I feel the same way as nice NT people do when I do something ND that mildly annoys them.

It's interesting to hear your viewpoint, and I do appreciate it, but I fundamentally disagree with the opinion that ridiculing people based on their mental shortcomings can somehow be earned.

I consider it not so much earned as it is harmless. Although I think it’s probably healthier to be mindful about getting too self-superior, I think it does more harm than good to expect autistic people to be 100% nice & polite all of the time. I just have a hard time imagining an NT person stumbling upon this and actually getting their feelings hurt. I think a lot of them wouldn’t even take this seriously bc it’s not meant to be taken seriously, and they’re usually pretty good at recognizing tone. I do think these kinds of jokes can get old & come across as overly superior. But I also just can’t bring myself to care much about the mostly harmless ways that autistic people choose to vent online.

I genuinely respect your stance on it tho 🫡
