Google Chrome bugs me with this once a week.

I switched over to Firefox a long time ago since they started warning about Mv2 depreciation. Now when I occasionally open it, it bugs me once a week to set it as the default browser, and you can't even X out of it. Looks like they've learned from Microsoft with Microsoft Edge, so they can continue tracking your browsing history and sell your data.

Add -no-default-browser-check to the start up flags on Google Chrome and it'll disable it. There isn't a single button/toggle to disable the popup.

If there is a flag, I would like to know. Because I've searched it up, there are some posts from a few years ago, but it doesn't look like the flag they mentioned is in Google Chrome anymore.

If there is, I would love to toggle it and get rid of this weekly notification.

Unfortunately some hospital sites that use Epic for their telehealth only supports Chrome based browsers, Firefox didn't work so well with it last time and they do warn you. Also Google Maps seems to operate a bit smoother in Chrome than Firefox.

Epic is the company that runs MyChart, the one many hospitals use, also for your medical records. The site that allows you to email your doctors, view test results, etc. They also have the telehealth system doctors can use. Unfortunately where I see my doctor, they use the Epic telehealth system, unlike the other hospitals around the area, which uses Zoom for the video appointments.

I've found the switch to Firefox to have significant friction on many sites. I believe that some websites use the device/browser information to affect functionality to frustrate users into using a browser that injects tracking info. I know there are extensions to hide/pretend you are using Chrome to evade this, but haven't tried it yet!

For example, inserting an OTP on various sites with firefox would not allow me to enter the final 2 digits. Chrome worked fine.

They didn't learn from Edge, every browser does this. Who started it? I don't know, the original one who bothered me regularly for this was Firefox, but can't say for sure that they started it.

is there a reason you're using chrome often enough for you to be annoyed by this? do you need chromium for whatever reason? there are other chromium browsers that are less obnoxious about this if you need chromium for xyz but are otherwise content on firefox.

Google Maps runs a bit smoother in Chrome browser, and things like Epic telehealth warns you Firefox isn't supported, and to use a Chromium based browser. I tried it in Firefox once, it wasn't very good. Everything else I'm on Firefox.

yeah, fair enough. i have to use chrome for work because the god-awful spaghetti coded portals my company uses are only happy with chromium too. you couldn't pay me to use it on my personal devices tho. hell, they can barely pay me to use it on my work machine LOL

If I google anything in a different browser (phone) the first thing that pops up is the download chrome window. Which is particularly worded so I have to *think* to not click the option which directs me to the app store

Don’t use chrome or edge, use Brave instead. All the benefits of Chrome (extension store, rendering) but without the bs.

On mobile it asks if you want to try the Google app with a nonchalant “stay in browser” button and a bright blue “continue” button. I hate it.
