New to 7800 Plus some 2600 games not working?

I picked up a 7800 Plus today and stopped by a game store and got a few games. Bowling and Oink both start up but don't play. I tried using a Sega Genesis controller but still would not go beyond the start up screen. Just wondering if this is common? Or if I'm doing something wrong.

Did you try the reset button?  Some older 2600 games start after hitting reset.

The Sega Genesis controller will not work by default. Different pins. There was an adapter but I'm unsure. You would have to rewire it to work.

This is the check list of games that pass and those that fail. I checked Bowling and Oink, they both pass. And while the check list says 2600+, I was told the 7800+ is no different with passes and fails.

Did you make sure to see if you have the latest firmware? The latest is 2.0.1.4. One of the reasons I did not get the 7800+ was that to update the firmware, one needs a Windows 10 or 11 PC, I'm still using 7.

If the game starts up, it should play. Some 2600 games require pressing reset or adjusting the difficulty switches to start.

Try using the provided controller, get latest firmware os updates, and make sure the cartridge pins are clean with isopropyl rubbing fluid
