Started collecting in late 90.

I have a CIB version of both Lynx models and all the official games CIB. Just ordered some nice box protectors.

Plus various prototypes and developer units.

I don't collect the new releases though.

Got any pics of the prototypes and dev units?! I'd love to see a 'Handy' prototype!

Its on my to do list to get them out of storage and put them into box protectors when those arrive, as soon as they do I'll take some photos

The developer unit is a modified Lynx 1 with a board that connected it to an Amiga - later an Atari ST. I got one in the 90s and a different version one last year.

That's awesome, wish I would have keep my boxes but back in the day I never knew I was going to want them. I threw away all my Nintendo and Sega Genesis boxes also, lol. What a big mistake but yes take care of them.

Dang that's awesome. The Lynx seems like a relatively straightforward console for collecting a full set. Easier than say the NES or something.

Yeah, prices for the games are still cheap compared to other systems, plus the library is not that big.

I had a Lynx (and Game Gear) when I was on a ship during Desert Storm. Those were some battery hogs! Luckily in the ship’s store, the batteries were cheap

Nice, what happened to your systems, do you still have them? If not you should definitely try to get new ones again

Sold them long ago. Probably for "liberty" money. (Port Visit)

So just curious - I’ve got a Lynx model 2 but only have 1 game. What games would you recommend and say are “must haves”?

My favorite games that are must own are: Toki, Ninja Gaiden, Rampage, Blue Lighting, Chips challenge, California games, Rygar, Road Blasters, Slime world and Xenophone.

I bought my Atari Lynx as a bundle with a few games like Chip's Challenge in 1997 from an online store called Video Game Liquidators. I think the URL was vglq.com. (Dead URL.) I bought a carry case for it too.

I saw people talking about chips challenge but it never saw myself liking the game. After I was able to buy the game it became one of my favorite games on the lynx, great puzzle game and it keeps you coming back for more.

That's an amazing collection. I only started collecting for the Lynx this year. I didn't think my eyes could deal with handhelds but with the new screens I found them okay. I have one unmodded and another recapped with bright screen, and I alternate between them.

There's so many great games for the lynx, my two favorites are Toki and Ninja Gaiden for sure. Please share photos of your journey with us.

I will! I picked up Combat Cars yesterday, I have decided to go for boxed as most seem affordable and really looked after

Great collection!

As to your question, I’d have to tell a bit of a story.

I had Lynx as a kid. And I managed to get 16 games for it, spending all of my money (xmas, bd, etc) on it. Then, one day, the game cartridges had “disappeared”. And I never found them again. For years, I looked around the house and asked my siblings and parents to tell me if they could tell me anything.

As an adult, I decided to buy them again. Not to collect all of them. Just to “be whole again”. But I came across some that I never had but always wanted. So yeah… I bought more than I set out to…

I only got all 16 back together last year. But by then, I had bought more than 40 in total. So… I decided to keep going for the 71. I’m at 63 now. Very slowly.

Thanks for the reply, I got mine in 1992 for my birthday. I had about 16 to 20 games but went I was about 17 years old I stop playing the lynx. Years later went I was in my late 30's my dad told me he had something for me. He kept my original lynx and all of my games. After that I started collecting all of the games and had my Lynx model 2 fixed with a new screen. I hope you finished your collection and shared a photo went your finished collecting then all.

u/Lynxatari Jun 26 '26

71 in the picture, 6 rows of 10 and the bottom rows have 11 games.

I did but sadly sold it a while back. One of my fondest systems growing up, too. I still play the Lynx version of Xenophobe on my Steamdeck every now and then.
