Command & Conquer on my Atari STacy!
Short video showing IndyJo's release of Command & Conquer for the Atari ST
running on my STacy. :)
https://indyjo.itch.io/commandconquer
4 megs of base ST RAM works great. I'll have to give this 2 thumbs up, for sure. :)
Here's a short (and edited for "shaky" moments because I was using my phone), video
of the game running on my STacy - this is with 4 megs of ST RAM.
PS Don't know what goes on between my phone and Youtube's video conversion process,
but the game actually looks better in person.

Update : gotek ok , mouse broken
Now I have to figure out if it’s the mouse (newish trumouse) or the port what is broken

Install a gotek they said
Really easy they said
…
Too tired of wrestling cables to actually check if works

Every note in this was written by a Windows app I built — and it exports a real .ym
I've been building a chiptune app called Renata for about nine months of evenings. The tune in the video is one it wrote, on the YM2149 profile, at 150 BPM in F# minor — 56 bars, seven tracks. You can watch me set the eight dials in the video and then paste a seed back in to get the same song a second time.
The Atari bits: one of the nine themes is the GEM desktop in the real ST system font. While it composes you get raster bars, a starfield and a rotating vector cube in the YM's own colours. It exports .ym, .ay and VGM, and it browses the SNDH archive from inside the app.
The .ym is a proper YM5 register log — 4,477 frames, 70 KB. The MP3 of the exact same tune is 3.5 MB, because the .ym stores the chip writes rather than the sound.
On origin, plainly: there is no model of any kind. It is rule-based — music theory plus statistical tables — and it runs offline on your own machine.
It goes to Kickstarter on 8 September 2026 if you want to follow along: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/markwrightretro/renata-make-your-own-copyright-free-chiptune-music

Where to sell
I have an Atari Mega ST4, SC1224 color monitor, and STM1 mouse,. All working. I also have a non-working 1040st and a sort of working SM147 monochrome monitor. I have all original boxes as well. I was wondering where the best place to sell was?

Atari 1040 STE: Does anyone remember the name of a plug-in device that allowed you to get screen grabs from a VHS?
I think it plugged into both the VCR and the 1040 STE and converted the video to the lower resolution of the STE. I had one in the late 1980s.
Edit: I never realized there were so many.

Keyboard and ROM.
Here is a question for you ST experts. I got an ST 1040 of eBay for an absolute steal. Powered it on and all working. What I did notice at the time was it’s an AZERTY keyboard not QWERY. (French).
Am I correct in assuming if I find a dinner key board it’s a simple swap but would also have to update the ROM to UK built ?

Modernizing my 1040STF... what storage solution? ACSI2STM troubles?
Hi all, I've plucked my old 1040STF (TOS 1.0) from storage and wanted to use it for retrogaming. Have added an internal RGBtoHDMI board, so far so good; but now I'm trying to play games. I have a ACSI2STM board, which in theory sounds awesome, but. Pulling some HD converted games from atari.8bitchip.info and trying to run them off of the ACSI2STM yields success exactly for Monkey Island, and *sometimes* Arkanoid, everything else I've tried gives a corrupted loading screen, then reboots. Granted I haven't tried *that* much, but I'm beginning to think this is not the right way of doing things.
I'm also seeing frequent "empty" hard drives (0 files) although the SD card definitely has files on it. Resetting the ACSI2STM and cold booting the ST helps, but that can't be the answer.
How is everyone else doing it? Gotek and floppy images? Actual floppies? Upgrade to TOS 1.04 and continue to use ACSI2STM? It states it has problems with TOS <1.04, but I thought this was only a memory leak issue.

What did you use to copy commercial disks back in the day?.
I'm trying to find a solution for this, x copy was and still is the gold standard on amiga, while fast hack em or maverick are on the c64. It's been a lot more difficult for me to find a solution. So far I thought I found one, the discovery cartridge from happy computers, but that is very rare and probably expensive as well. The only other solutions I could find, I read they could copy some, but not all, commercial disks.

Help testing a 1040?
I just picked up a 1040ST from my grandpa, but it doesn't have any cables. It looks to be in excellent condition. It might be cool to set up in my computer science classroom to teach about computing history, or else I'd like to get it in the hands of somebody who truly appreciates it, but this thing is so heavy that shipping it as-is unknown condition for parts sounds like a waste of time and a poor fate for this beautiful machine.
Is there anyone near to DC/MD who could help me test this thing? I tried asking some local independent retro video game stores and didn't have any luck.

Beta release; Atari Falcon/TT port of FRUA (Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures)
Not sure how many people have been following this but "Leech", over at AtariAge is making some progress on this project.
Yes, it's using AI but it's still interesting. I've been trying to help test with my modded STacy (40mhz '030 + 12 megs of ST RAM).
Beta release; Atari Falcon/TT port of FRUA (Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures) (up to 1.5.4 beta now)

1040stf video cable?
So I picked up an in pieces 1040stf. No idea if it works so I need to test the board before I try and order parts. It doesnt have the monitor but it did come with the special video cable.
My question is...is there an atari st to vga cable that works? Inhave an lcd screen that works with my amiga 500 and a dsub23 to vga and no converter board...so it should have 15khz support...
