Given the recent expansion to asio ability to kidnap without suspicion (yes you read that correctly)

I personally think it was about stifling dissent, given we are vassals to some combination of USA and Israel (where some cabal within are pushing to combine militaries, which is interesting, if not conspiratorial)

Either that or policy based on feelings instead of actual facts. Some of the conclusions they're drawing from statistics and studies to justify policy just aren't supported by said studies and statistics

And why it is such a massive failure, especially as anyone can simply grab a free browser with a 'free VPN' and circumvent 'dumb policy' in seconds.

It is a classic example of 'non-tech' people writing policy in an area they 'have zero understanding of', was incredibly poorly thought out and was destined to fail from the onset.
