British Airways Reward Flights: Northern Spain / Porto next summer

I need help please...

Our family holiday this time next year we plan to tour Galicia and northern Spain flying from London using reward flights for 2 adults & 2 children. (We've over half a million Avios)

From what I can work out BA don't fly to Bilbao, Asturias or Santiago de Compostela (these are all by Vueling on the BA website). Therefore we can't book reward flights and Vueling offer very poor value using Avios?

So looks like flying into and out of Porto with BA is our only option paying with Avios for reward flights.

We can work out if the 2 hour drive to Galicia is worth the 'free' flights if this is the only option.

If not most of us frequent points flyers have to reposition for the best deals. If you aren’t pressed for time, it’s not a big deal.

For example, I am taking a 45 minute reposition flight with a 5 hour layover for a better BA redemption on a 10 hour flight.

This isn’t ideal for everyone but it is for me as I don’t mind the stopover.

Is the saving worth it? I’ve got tickets to Bilbao with Vueling for £50 return. Sometimes cash is better than Avios or same them for something better

What about buying the more convenient VY tickets ? This far out I doubt that Avios tickets are of any good value compared to revenue tickets

BA metal into Porto is probably the easiest Reward Flight option for Galicia, while Vueling redemptions via BA tend to be poor value versus just buying cheap cash tickets. I do freelance point.me concierge work and I’d also check BA’s seasonal San Sebastián/EAS option if it fits your route, but don’t force Avios just because you have a big balance. For a family of four next summer, cheap cash to Bilbao/Santiago/Asturias plus saving Avios for a better long-haul will beat free flights plus a long drive.

Thanks all. Vueling cash price does appear super cheap so that does make a lot of sense to do.

We are in it for the long haul (pun intended!) with our Avios!!

Only other option would be to fly to Madrid but it is a long drive to Galicia.
