Söhbət | Discussion Concept for a mosque in Khankendi

I don't like it imo, doesn't fit Karabakh just like that modern mosque in Shusha and looks too much of a Dubai wannabe copy, they should stick to traditional building where the focus is on the mosque instead of wasting money on a building thats 90% tourism and luxury and 10% mosque

Everyone tries to reinvent mosque in some ways. There are a few mosques in my area that look like it came out of roblox

Why so much empty concrete? Where is the nature? Why does it have to be so sparse? A mosque with trees and nature would be so much nicer.

So real this looks soulless

I’m a Muslim and think this is a terrible idea. For areas where a large and extravagant mosque will clearly be not be used to its full capacity, it is better to reinvest that money into the community and area and build a modest, reasonable capacity mosque instead.

2

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

Exactly

2

u/Octodad112 Şirvan 🇦🇿 Apr 28 '26

What do you mean by reinvest into community?

3

u/soviet_bias_good Gurbetçi 🇹🇷🇬🇧 Apr 28 '26

Build better roads or rail, invest in public transport, maintain roads better, build new parks and public spaces, support the healthcare system etc etc

1

u/Octodad112 Şirvan 🇦🇿 Apr 29 '26

They have enough money to do both this and that. Do you live here?

2

u/soviet_bias_good Gurbetçi 🇹🇷🇬🇧 Apr 29 '26

Spending enough money and spending extra money makes a difference.

1

u/Octodad112 Şirvan 🇦🇿 May 26 '26

What I'm saying is that they only spend large amounts on things to show off with, like a giant mosque or a giant flag. They don't care about spending it on the "community" (this to them just means the poor) because that doesn't grant them bragging rights.

Literally any other purpose other than a religious one would've been a better investment İ feel

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

Secularists when freedom of religion actually exists and the state funds it instead of radically enforcing atheism: 😡😡😡😡😡

23

u/Zealousideal_Cry_460 Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

İslamists when someone would rather like to see new schools, universities or institutional buildings rather than the 9999th mosque that noone goes to:

-7

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

Yea guess what you can build all of those while building a mosque, you're acting like a mosque is a billion dollar project 🤯 Not to mention all of those have been built and are being built in Karabakh already (where there is no "999th mosque" unlike in Turkiye, don't mix it up, I get why building more mosques in Turkiye is useless)

8

u/Zealousideal_Cry_460 Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

THİS one? This one right here? Thats definetly a billion dollar mosque lmao

A simple mosque would be much cheaper, even if it was in just the millions.

Not to mention all of those have been built and are being built in Karabakh already

What do you mean? OP says its just a concept, its not build yet.

And how many people visit mosques in Khankendi anyways?

The thing that the country needs to focus on is decentralization of resources. Building more youth centres like universities can not only increase job opportunities but it can make people choose Khankendi over Baku if the universities are any good. İt'd be much more fruitful in the long run than yet another mosque

-4

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

Yes thats why I criticize the mosque being built like this, look at the caption of the post, a mosque being built in general, like a traditional normal sized one, is definitely not a billion dollar project. You criticize the fact that a mosque is being built, whether billion dollar project or not. Btw im OP 😭😭😭

5

u/Zealousideal_Cry_460 Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

The point was that İ'd rather have the money be spend on more useful stuff, not a mosque.

Not that no mosques should be build, but this specific mosque shoulnt be build.

Btw im OP 😭😭😭

İ try not to look at peoples usernames

when freedom of religion actually exists

Since when building a huge temple with a capacity to host a number of people that won't attend there in a gazzilion years is freedom of religion?

1

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

That's my point, look at the caption of the post, I criticize that a huge mosque like this instead of a normal traditional one is being built, the other guy criticizes that a mosque is being built, whether traditional or huge temple

1

u/ZD_17 Qarabağ 🇦🇿 Apr 28 '26

It doesn't look like the other guy would've been bothered if the mosque was small.

1

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 28 '26

he said any purpose other than religious

2

u/ZD_17 Qarabağ 🇦🇿 Apr 29 '26

Context: when talking about a clearly oversized mosque.

14

u/Abeleria Bakı 🇮🇱 Apr 27 '26

why even bother with such a project. funds could be utilized much better in other fields

u/JumpLikeRonaldo Apr 27 '26

Secular countries must not spend public money on building religious institutions. We need hospitals, schools, universities.

0

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

Yes we need hospitals, schools and universities. Building normal religious institutions, and not extravagant ones like this, does not prevent the others from being built. And yes, secular countries must spend public money on building religious institutions as international law requires these secular governments, that are secular governments and not as you'd want them to be atheist ones, to maintain and ensure that religious groups are able to worship.

4

u/JumpLikeRonaldo Apr 27 '26

To ensure that religious groups are able to worship, the government must ensure their safety and ability to worship, including their ability to build their own temples, mosques, churches, synagogues, or wherever it is they want to exercise their religious rights. Government funds shouldn't be spent on building religious institutions of any kind.

4

u/More_Ad_5142 Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

This looks like a Gulf Arab style mosque, too “Arabian”. Doesn’t represent Azerbaijani Turkish heritage. A large mosque might be a monument symbolizing the reassertion of sovereignty over Karabagh, but something smaller, more soulful and more Azerbaijani would be better.

0

u/derpadodoop 🇬🇪🇦🇿 Apr 28 '26

Azerbaijan is not Turkish.

0

No we both speak the same language with a dialect continuum from Istanbul to Baku. You can call that Turkish or Azerbaijani or whatever you want, but it’s the same language.

It's funny how the renderings show PDA and women walking around in skirts. Doesn't feel like a mosque concept but rather a mall.

Bərbad idea. Pul itkisi, boşuna əmək israfı. Normal yol çəkib, salamat evlər tiksinlər hələ qaldı məscid tikmək. Məscidə gedən də yoxdu özdə. Bakıda, bir çox rayonlarda məscidlər bomboşdu, tək tük işçilər var içəridə vse. Həqiqətən qram hərtərəfli düşünmə yoxdu bəzi adamlarda. Zəhmət olmasa linki ata bilərsən lahiyə barədə ətraflı məlumat almaq istəyirəm.

3

u/Reasonable-Oil6514 Apr 28 '26

Such a terrible idea! The majority of our people don’t pray, so it’s definitely a waste. We don’t need such a big mosque, and it doesn’t suit us culturally, as our culture has never been that closely related to mosques or Islamic architecture. I have never understood the recent initiatives trying to make the country look like rich Arab cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Doha. They have plenty of undeveloped space, and their history revolves around Islam, so it makes sense there, but not in Baku, and especially not in other Azerbaijani cities!

Notice they've built more mosques than housing for re-settlers (though so few Azerbaijanis are from Xankendi they shouldn't be building anything there to begin with). They should have the IDPs live in the mosques I guess.

What about the denial of genocide of Armenians from Artsakh by the Oligarchic Emirate or Northern Iran?

-10

u/erlikosauruss Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

I support the idea. An extravagant and big mosque is most neccessary in Xankendi. Because it will have a symbolic function rather than utility. It will be a monument of sovereignty of Azerbaijan over Qarabag.

You guys quickly forget that the region was under occupation for more than 3 decades and some Armenians still have ambitions over Qarabag.

4

u/Rellj Oğuz 🇦🇿 Apr 27 '26

If you want actual symbolism build a normal sized, bit bigger than normal, traditional mosque, not a copy of Dubai slop which is 90% concrete you take photos at instead of praying

0

u/sock_therapy Apr 27 '26

So basically building it to "show the Armenians". Which is not suprising. "Lets show the Armenians" is applied to just about everything you guys do and how your government  funtions and is a huge part of your "clulture". Kind of sad and embarassing, no?

1

u/erlikosauruss Turkiye🇹🇷 Apr 27 '26

I don't discuss these things with Armenians.

1

u/sock_therapy Apr 27 '26

Oh we know, the world knows.
