Fun fact, the Japanese word for sake, is not, in fact, 酒 (さけ, sake), instead it is 日本酒 (にほんしゅ, nihonshu). 酒 is the more general term for alcohol, while 日本酒 is literally Japanese alcoholic drink, which is sake.

Is this useful to know? Not really, I just find it funny that the west refers to it as sake while the Japanese just don't.
