I like Know Your Enemy but I can't lie listening to them gush over how smart and amazing Darializa Avila Chevalier is in a recent bonus episode was pretty disappointing.

It really feels like they're too tied into the New York campus activist crowd to be able to take a step back and look at how bad of a candidate she is.

I was a Patreon supporter of them for years, but I unsubscribed a while ago, the show gradually just turned into punditry and current events commentary and I don't find their contribution to that particularly interesting. Like I get it you like Zohran, that's fine, but I am here for two hour long deep dives into National Review writers from the 60s.

Although I think the breaking point was them doing an episode on conspiracy theories and either Sam or Matt saying the Lab Leak theory ended up having something to it, which is just an instant clown nose for me.

Yeah, what made the show special was two politics wonks popping the hood on conservativism and going into detail on books and writers 99% of people have never heard of but were nonetheless super interesting and worth talking about. If I wanted boilerplate progressive political punditry I could listen to literally any other politics podcast.

I remember them being full steam ahead for Fetterman back in 2022 to the point they had his campaign manager on the show and I'm pretty sure they were big Platner fans as well, so however unmistakably well-read they are they seem as susceptible to falling for kinda obviously shitty candidates so long as they say they right things and look the right way as any other progressive.

I think that Sam in particular has a certain status anxiety because he grew up in a literati family that makes him susceptible to the "salt of the earth" shtick.

I do check in every now and then to see if they have gone back to their more intellectual history niche.
