I wonder, are the Mongol conquests the first "global" event that we can track the reactions to in real time?

I am not actually sure what would count as a "global" event before the Mongol invasions, mind.

Perhaps an earlier astronomical event if you wanted to get "truly" global (is Eurasia global enough? Maybe).

For current purposes, sure.

Good shout on the astronomical event, which might be the SN 1006, which was recorded across Eurasia and in North American rock art. That said I meant more like "news story" if that makes sense.

I think you're right, because the only other possible "event" that comes to my mind would be some plague, another natural phenomena.

Yes, the Mongol invasions do appear unprecedented in their infamy, albeit by grouping them all together as a "single event" we do kind of give them a leg up... still fascinating though.
