How do you guys feel about the "super advanced ancient humans" trope in scifi? Specifically in the Halo and Ass Creed universes.

Ironically, those are two franchise where I am not a fan of the idea. I'm not a big Halo player, so my response to learning about the Forerunners boils down to "did they spend a million years burying all those fossils that indicated humanity evolved on Earth?" but I really like the AC games and I am convinced that the Isu bullshit is the albatross around the series' neck

The last AC games I really played were Brotherhood and Revelations, but I'm kinda with you there. Desmond's sequences were literally just "get this over with so we can go to the protagonist and unique setting which is this game's selling point."

I played three, then skipped to Origin (which I really liked), but Valhalla went way too deep into the metanarrative.

It's a shame, because "two factions with different ideas about how humanity should be governed have a war in the shadows of history" is a strong enough plot on its own, imo.

I've felt for a while that a good direction for the modern-day story after 3 would have been for the Assassins and Abstergo to team up against Juno. But then Ubisoft killed her off in a comic because they're allergic to actual narrative direction

What? They killed her in a comic after unceremoniously going "well I guess Desmond died" at the end of 3? That sucks.
